Fern-Michelle was a 1991 graduate of Kaukauna High School. She was formerly employed with Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah and various nursing homes in the Fox Valley as a nursing assistant. Fern-Michelle enjoyed spending time with her son, drawing, painting and coloring.

    Fern-Michelle is survived by her son, K.J.; her parents, Vernon and Billie Sue; two brothers, Michael (Maryanne) Amerson, Green Bay; and Matthew (Kristy) Amerson, Kaukauna; and by three nieces and a nephew.

    A memorial service will be held at a later date.

  • Note: Jean A. Maves, age 71, died at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Theda Care Hospice Residency following a four-year battle with cancer. Jean was born on November 27, 1943 in Appleton to the late Walter and Esther (Krause) Nau. She graduated from Appleton West High School in 1962 with a perfect attendance record for all four years. Jean had two children from a previous marriage, Jeffrey Maier and Dawn Maier Schuh. Jean lived in Green Bay for about 20 years where she worked at G&K Services. She moved back to Appleton in May 1990, married Duane Maves and worked at Aramark until she retired in 2005. She was an avid bowler and loved collecting elephants. Jean was a member of St. James Methodist Church.

    Jean is survived by her husband of 25 years, Duane Maves, her son Jeffrey Maier of Maggie Valley, North Carolina and her daughter, Dawn (Rick) Schuh of Kaukauna. She is also survived by her three stepchildren; Scott (Heather) Maves, Todd (Barb) Maves and Terri (Jon) Heise, eight grandchildren; Brandon and Amanda Chesser, Christopher and Cole Maves, Kassandra and Allisyn Maves, Garrett and Kendall Heise; four great grandchildren; Damian, Kadynce, Landin and Tenley. She is also survived by her sisters; Joyce R. (Charles) Bayer, Alice (Ronald) Velie, sisters in law; Peggy Nau, Ruth Roeder, brothers in law; William (Gloria) Maves, David (Darlene) Maves, her nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends; Father John Chudik and his son Christopher.

    Preceding her in death are her parents, her brother, Glen W. Nau, father and mother in law; Weldon and Alice Maves, brothers in law, Keith Maves and Robert Roeder.

    Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St, Appleton with the Pastor Mark Klasner and Father John Chudik officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.

  • Note: Randolph A. "R.A." Thiel, age 93, of Chilton, died on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, surrounded by his family. He was born January 6, 1923 in Fond du Lac, son of the late Andrew "Col. A.J." & Florence (Bargenquast) Thiel. He married Armella M. Gerhartz on May 15, 1943 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.

    Shortly after marriage, R.A. served in the United States Merchant Marines from 1944-1945. After completing his service, R.A. settled outside Hilbert and began raising his family and establishing himself in the family business. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, VFW Post 3153 and American Legion Post 125 in Chilton, the Knights of Columbus, the National & Wisconsin Auctioneers Associations, and the Wisconsin Real Estate Association.

    R.A. lived a long and storied life in which his living presence was larger than life itself. The ambition he showed and the knowledge he possessed garnered people's admiration and respect in all he did. He held a very strong work ethic and loved every moment he spent working when he owned and operated Thiel Real Estate and Thiel & Thiel Auctions.

    In his time away from work, R.A. loved to go hunting; he had an eagle eye, spotting game before everyone else and made shots no other hunter could comprehend. He also enjoyed many of the finer things in life; things like good food, good wine and good times. The best three things in his life were being married to Armella, traveling to 109 locations throughout the world with her, and working in the Auction & Real Estate Business for 58 years.

    Survivors include his children: Jerry Thiel, Jack (Vicki) Thiel, Tom Thiel & his fiancée Maggie; 5 grandchildren: Dori (Tim) Duchow, Brad (Dawn) Thiel, Kendall (Cindy) Thiel, Tamara (Nick) Geiser, Miranda Thiel; 12 great grandchildren: Kale, Keaton, Ashley, Brittney, Andrew, Alisa, McKenzie, Brady, Carliann, Lukas, Bennett & Ella; 4 great-great grandchildren: Lyden, Oliver, Magnolia & Jayden; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lula Schoen, Ruth Gerhartz, Bernita Perry, Marvin (Phyllis) Gerhartz, Lyle (Betty) Gerhartz, Donna Commerford and Mary Jane Gerhartz. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    R.A. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Armella; a daughter: Jane Thiel; and a sister: Elaine (Ralph) Daul.

    Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, February 5, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am on Friday, February 5, 2016

  • Note: Armella M. Thiel, age 95, of Chilton, died on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Libby's House in Chilton. She was born April 29, 1920 in Stockbridge, daughter of the late Lewis & Ruby (Hostettler) Gerhartz. She married Randolph "R.A." Thiel on May 15, 1942 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge.

    Following their marriage, she assisted her husband with many of the duties in their auctioneering business in Chilton. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Chilton and St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert where she had also been a member of the Christian Women. Armella was a voracious reader and absolutely loved to travel with her husband. She proudly reached 109 unique destinations throughout the world. On occasion, she would also be seen pheasant hunting with her husband and once gave a try at wild boar hunting but realized that once was enough.

    With a warm and gracious servant's heart, Armella was a model wife, mother and grandmother. She constantly went out of her way for others to bring them joy with her warm and personable spirit.

    Survivors include her husband: R.A.; her children: Jerry Thiel, Jack (Vicki) Thiel, Tom Thiel and his fiancée Maggie; 5 grandchildren: Dori (Tim) Duchow, Brad (Dawn) Thiel, Kendall (Cindy) Thiel, Tamara (Nick) Geiser, Miranda Thiel; 12 great grandchildren: Kale, Keaton, Ashley, Brittney, Andrew, Alisa, McKenzie, Brady, Carliann, Lukas, Bennett & Ella; 2 great-great grandchildren: Lyden & Oliver; her siblings: Lula Schoen, Delmar (Ruth) Gerhartz, Bernita Perry, Marvin (Phyllis) Gerhartz, Lyle (Betty) Gerhartz, Donna Commerford; and a sister-in-law: Mary Jane Gerhartz. Armella is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter: Jane Thiel; a brother: Gary Gerhartz; and a sister: Irmine Denslow.

    Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Friday, May 22, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.   • Note: Lewis J. Gerhartz, 79, of R. 1 Chilton, died Sunday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for several months.
    He was born Aug. 25, 1892 at Mt. Calvary, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gerhartz. On June 20, 1916, he married the former Ruby Hostettler at St. Mary Catholic Church at Stockbridge. The couple lived and farmed in the Stockbridge area since their marriage. Mr. Gerhartz was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.
    Survivors are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Howard (Lala) Schoen of Stockbridge, Mrs. Randy (Armella) Thiel of Chilton, Mrs. Donald (Irmine) Denslow and Mrs. Robert (Berneta) Perry both of Fond du Lac and Mrs. John (Donna) Comerford of Sheboygan; four sons, Delmar and Marvin both of Stockbridge, Lyle of Darboy and Gary of Kewaskum; two sisters, Mrs. Olga Nickel of Mt. Calvary and Mrs. Isabelle Schnur of Milwaukee; 34 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

  • Note: Irmine R. Denslow, 82, of 15 N. Butler St. died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at her residence following a courageous six month battle with cancer. Irmine was born October 2, 1921 in Stockbridge, a daughter of Louis and Ruby Hostettler Gerhartz. On June 1, 1946 she married Donald Denslow at St. Mary's Church in Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1985.

    Irmine worked for J.C. Penney for 22 years. She belonged to many area dance clubs including Cheyenne Shuffle, Western Wanderers, and We Love to Dance Club. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. She loved sewing, babysitting, gardening and her flowers, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

    Survivors include six children; Richard Denslow of Fond du Lac, Dann (Lois) Denslow of Green Lake, Judi Elliot of Fond du Lac, Joel Denslow of Fond du Lac, Steven Denslow of Fond du Lac, Michele (Bob) Fox of Fond du Lac, 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild-Sarena, four brothers; Delmar (Ruth) Gerhartz, Marvin (Phyllis) Gerhartz, Lyle (Betty) Gerhartz, Gary (MaryJane) Gerhartz, four sisters; Lula Schoen, Armella (Randy) Thiel, Bernita (Bob) Perry, Donna (Jack) Commerford, many nieces and nephews, a special friend; Denise Denslow, and her many friends from J.C. Penney. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.


    Funeral Information
    Visitation for Mrs. Denslow will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Friday, May 14, 2004 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 14, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Victor Capriolo officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

    Lula Josephine Schoen, 97, of Stockbridge passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Chilton. Lula was born December 9, 1918 in Stockbridge, daughter of the late Lewis and Ruby (Hostettler) Gerhartz. She graduated from Stockbridge High School in 1936. She attended a Beauty Academy in Appleton and studied cosmetology thru 1937, but put that job on hold to raise a family. Lula married Howard (Hike) Schoen on July 13, 1938. They farmed together for many years near the shores of Lake Winnebago where they raised their four children. Howard preceded her in death in 1975.

    Lula was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Stockbridge, Christian Mothers and belonged to the Calumet Medical Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering in the hospital gift shop for many years.

    She was employed at Foley Aluminum as a production worker for 20 years until her retirement in 1981.

    She loved to travel on her own and put Alaska, Fatima, The Vatican, and Lourdes at the top of her list. Lula found a good travel companion in John Griner. He accompanied her around the United States - Florida to California. Lula had an active social life. She loved bridge and a good game of sheepshead. Every Friday morning you would find her with "the church ladies" drinking coffee at the Mud Creek Café.

    Wednesday night supper was her time to cook for any family member who would show up. No one left her home hungry. Her specialty was surprise cookies.

    Survivors include her daughters Carol Lee (Erv) Selk of Chilton, Diane Ely of Hilbert, a son Denis (Susan) Schoen of Granite Bay, CA, a daughter-in-law, Mary Hauser, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, two sisters, Bernita (Robert) Perry, Donna (Jack) Comerford, two brothers, Marvin (Phyllis) Gerhartz, Lyle (Betty) Gerhartz; 2 sisters-in-law: Ruth Gerhartz & Mary Jane Gerhartz; and many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in death by her son, Bruce Schoen; a son-in-law, David Ely; grandson, Lee Buechel; two sisters, Armella (R.A.) Thiel and Irmine (Donald) Denslow; infant sister, Althea Gerhartz; two brothers, Delmar Gerhartz and Gary Gerhartz; and a sister-in-law, Arline (Edgar) Daun.

    Funeral service will be at 11:30am on Monday, October 10, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (120 Davis Street) in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley and Deacon Steve Vande Hey officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00am to 11:15am.

    A memorial fund has been established in the name of Lula J. Schoen.

    He was born May 26, 1923 in Stockbridge, the son of the late Lewis & Ruby (Hostettler) Gerhartz. On February 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruth Irene Heller at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fond du lac.

    Survivors include his wife: Ruth; two daughters: Jean (Dick Schuette) Effa, Elaine (Paul) Hemauer; a son: Donald (Kathryn) Gerhartz; a grandson: Greg (Lindsay Armstrong) Gerhartz all of Stockbridge; a granddaughter: Sarah (Will) Hall of Nashville, TN; a great grandson: Dylan Gerhartz; three sisters: Lula Schoen, Bernita Perry, Donna Comerford; two brothers: Marvin (Phyllis) & Lyle (Betty) Gerhartz; brother-in-law: Randy Thiel; and a sister-in-law: Mary Jane Gerhartz.

    In addition to his parents, Delmar was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Katie Hemauer; sisters: Armella Thiel, Irmine (Donald) Denslow; a brother: Gary Gerhartz; and brothers-in-law: Howard Schoen, Bud Perry and Jack Comerford.

    Delmar's body has been donated to the Medical School at the University of Wisconsin Madison for scientific and medical research.

    A memorial for Delmar will be at a later date.

    Marian, the daughter of Frank and Grace (Brennan) Kiley , was born on June 11, 1916 in the town of Glenmore. Marian graduated from the Kiley Grade School and De Pere High School. She married Elmer De Both on Thanksgiving Day, November 30, 1939. They enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1999.

    Marian was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere. She was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Women's Club, St. Francis and De Pere Women's Club bridge marathons, as well as the Ledgeview Ladies Golf League. She was a longtime volunteer at Rennes Health Center, Mobile Meals, Curative Workshop, American Red Cross Blood Banks and the WI Coalition on Aging.

    First and foremost she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother . Survivors include her 4 daughters, Sarah/Sallie (Ed) Johnston, Franklin TN; Mary Kay Basten (Doug Staidl) Howard,WI; Jan (Gary) DeByl , Judy (Glenn) Lehnert, De Pere, WI; She is further survived by 11 grandchildren: Amy Johnston, Nashville, TN; David (Carla) Johnston, Chattanooga, TN: Jim (Heather) Basten, Woodbury, MN; Perry (Wendi) Basten, Columbus, OH; Carrie (Steve) Smith, Colorado Springs, CO; Kelly (Matt) Baenen, Green Bay, WI; Chad DeByl, Howard, WI; Sara DeByl (Mike Lattary) Rogers, MN; Katie (Jay) Justman, Shawano, WI; Jennifer (Rod) VanRite, De Pere, WI; Stephanie Lehnert (Drew Neerdaels), Green Bay, WI and 26 great-grandchildren.     Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Francis Kiley; Clarence (Ann) Kiley; three sisters, Ceil Kiley, Margaret (Urb) McVey, Loretta (John) Collins; a sister-in-law Florence (Sid) Jansen; a brother-in-law, Al (Millie) DeBoth, and one son-in-law, James N. Basten.

    Family and friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Church, 220 S. Michigan St. De Pere, WI on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Marian at 11:00 am with Rev. Judah Pigon, MF officiating. Inurnment in Allouez Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established in Marian's name.
