  • Note: IN MEMORIAM MRS. ISAAC STEVENS Mrs. Isaac Stevens departed this life on Tuesday, March 30, 1915, from the home near Manawa, Waupaca Co.,WI, aged 51 years, 9 months, 27 days. Esther Gibson was the third daughter of Urban Edgar and Elizabeth Crane Gibson. She was born in the village of Royalton, July 3, 1863. Her father was a Volunteer in the US Army, and answered the final Roll Call in May 1887. This left Mrs. Gibson in care of the family. How wisely and well she wrought there is no better evidence than that of the lives of their children who came to maturity. They are Mrs. Melva Railey, Yakima Valley, Wash., Esther Stevens, the subject of this sketch; Rev U. E. Gibson, of Warrens, Wis.; Milton Gibson of Colorado. The Book and the Alter were her sources of strength. Mrs. Gibson went to her reward about one year ago. The Gibson family removed to Manawa before the death of Mr. Gibson. Esther, with the others attended the public school at Little Wolf, and later the village school at Manawa. She also had some experience as a teacher in the rural schools. At the home of her parents in Manawa, July 3rd 1882, Esther Gibson was united in marriage to Mr. Isaac Stevens, Rev. E. W. Green, of blessed memory, solemnized the rite. There remains to this day a number of relatives and friends who were present at this happy event. The young couple, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Stevens, settled on a farm where the family still resides. They worked diligently together to make a pleasant home for themselves, and children and to afford them what they could in the way of educational privileges. The dear wife and mother has been called away from them, all honor to such mothers of men. Our Father called Mrs. Stevens in the glory of womanhood to come up higher. She was in the prime of a spiritual useful life. Her faculties were unabated. Shall we not for this, all of us who loved her, look up and say, "Father we thank Thee." What a beautiful heritage she left to her children. Righteousness characterized her life. She was loyal to her convictions. She believed her beliefs, a doer of the word in every sense. On June 27, 1889, she publicly professed her faith in Jesus Christ, with a number of others, by being buried with him in baptism, Rev. L. G. Catchpole administering the ordinance, and she was received into the Baptist Church of Manawa. There remain of her family to rejoice in the fruitage of her Christ-like life, her husband, three sons and seven daughters, namely Mrs. May King of Almond; William, Bend, OR; Walter, Caldwell, OH; Wayland, Oshkosh; Ruby, Bessie, Hazel, Irene Dorothy and Helen, in the home with their father. The malady which proved fatal manifested itself early in January this year. The funeral services were held from the home April 1st, conducted by Rev. Hoad. The interment was in Manawa cemetery. "'Till He come and our great Father seeing fit to bruise, discernes our speechless tears, both prayer and praise.
