  • Note: Ruth Irene Mehlberg, age 91 of Clintonville was welcomed to Heaven and into the waiting arms of Jesus, her husband, John, daughter, Bonnie Jacoby, infant son, Johnny and four other infant children on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville after a short illness.

    Ruth was born on July 15, 1918 in Wittenberg, WI, the daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Blum) Mech. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. After graduating from High School, Ruth married John R. Mehlberg on July 24, 1937at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville. The couple lived in Clintonville all of their married life. Ruth loved spending time working in her yard as evidenced by her beautiful flowerbeds and rock gardens. For a number of years, Ruth & John won awards for outstanding Christmas displays at their home. Ruth was a gifted seamstress who was especially proud of her quilting. She and her mother, Irene owned and operated Southside Apparel in Clintonville. After closing the store she worked for 10 years as at Schultz Brothers Store, Clintonville. Ruth later worked at the J.C. Penny Store also in Clintonville for 21 years, serving as assistant manager the last few years before retiring in 1980. Mr. Mehlberg preceded his wife i!
    n death on February 14, 1982. For years, Ruth was an active member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville where she belonged to the Sewing Bee. Later in life, she came to enjoy playing bingo and was a bus host for Diane Thede Tours until this past November. A fierce competitor, Ruth an avid card and game player who made sure everyone played "honestly". Ruth was a loving and gentle woman who truly loved life. She led by example and taught us to make the most of the life we were given, not questioning God's plan for us. She will be greatly missed.

    Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jay (Sharon) Van Stiphout, Little Chute and their children (Tessa, Elizabeth & Cash), Lindi (Don) Nelson, Pulaski and their children (Amanda & Jessica), Jody (Bruce) Vosters, Hatley and their children (Zach, Leah & Ben), Mike (Vicki) Jacoby, Clintonville and their children (Jon & Joe), John (Susan) Van Stiphout, Kaukauna and their children (Hannah, Elliott & Garrett, Marty (Tammy) Jacoby, Clintonville and their children (Trevor & Britany) and LaDonna (Scott) Wyant, New London and their children (Brooklyn, Autumn, Elijah & Athena)

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, 2 daughters, Judith in infancy & LaVonne "Bonnie" Jacoby, a son, Johnny in infancy, a grandson, Kit Jacoby in infancy, 2 brothers, Ray & Roy Mech and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

    Funeral services will be held 6 P.M. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville with the Rev. Daniel Burns officiating. Inurnment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville;

    Friends may call at the Church on Tuesday from 4 P.M. until the time of the service.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Martin Lutheran Church.

    The Mehlberg family would like to thank Aunt Gerri & Aunt Delores for the many card games; the visits with Uncle Elroy & Aunt Elaine: all her bingo friends, especially, Debbie. A special thanks to Orville Noak for all your kindness. To family, friends & neighbors who have supported Uncle Roger and the family through Ruth's illness. Also to the Greentree and Heartland Hospice staff for all of your kindness.
