  • Note: Evelyn B. Diener-Gries, age 90, of Hilbert, died on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Brillion West Haven in Brillion.

She was born January 16, 1924 in the Hilbert area, daughter of the late Alvin & Helena (Rusch) Fischer.

Evelyn married Theodore Diener on July 12, 1941 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert. The couple farmed together side by side on their family dairy farm until their retirement in 1972. Evelyn's life with Theodore was filled with much work, a lot of fun, and much love. She appreciated moments of music and dancing with him, especially because Theodore always seemed to be the life of the party. Together, they had fun and spent time with people they truly enjoyed.

Shortly following their retirement from farming, Evelyn used the opportunity to drive school bus for the Hilbert School District for 19 years. Theodore preceded her in death in January of 1984.

She later married Ralph Gries on November 9, 1991 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert. Their marriage offered each of them the perfect opportunity to travel throughout the United States and experience new things and new places. They had even attended the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York for their honeymoon. Ralph, too, preceded her in death in June of 1997.

Evelyn had quite the touch when it came to sewing; she was many individuals go to person to sew or mend. She enjoyed making crafts, cooking and baking, and watching the Green Bay Packers. The only other team she liked paying attention to more, was whatever team one of her grandchildren was playing on. Throughout her life, Evelyn was admired as one of the hardest working women to ever grace this earth. All the while, she surrounded her family with her love, no matter what difficulties may have been in front of her.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert, the Ladies Aide, and several card clubs throughout the area.

Survivors include her children: David (Ruth) Diener, James (Sandra) Diener, Debra (David) Brantmeier, Kay (Patrick) Pritchard; grandchildren: Korey (Melissa) Diener, Jason (Jennifer) Diener, Aaron Diener and fiancée Lauren Walker, Stephanie (Korey) Feiner, Justin Brantmeier and fiancée Becki Smet, Krista (Jon) Henshue, Shaylyn Pritchard, Sean Pritchard; her great-grandchildren: Kaelee, Ryan, Elizabeth, & Xavier; step-children: Paul (Debbie) Gries, Margaret (Don) Hudziak, Joe (Dar) Gries, Rose (John) Ebert, Lori Wiese, Mike (Chris) Gries; step grandchildren: Bethany (Jason) Theison, Erin Gries, Jason (Stephanie) Gries, Andrea Gries, Diana (Joe) Costello, Laura (Nick) Jackson, Jenn (Alex) Kaker, Marc Gries, Brent, Chris & Erika Winius, Terri, Josh & Jordan Ebert, Nick & Luke Wiese, Phil & Allison Gries, Amy (Nick) Schmitt; step-great-grandchildren: Jacoby & Calleigh, Imani & Quinn, Alaina & Adria Schmitt; a sister: Janet Just; and a brother-in-law: Charles Burg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a step-son-in-law: Dick Wiese; and a sister: Myra Burg.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at St. Peter Lutheran Church (43 N. 3rd St.) in Hilbert with the Rev. Timm Heath officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014.

Evelyn's family would like to thank the entire staff of Brillion West Haven for all of the wonderful care she received over the past three years. She truly enjoyed it there, and the many friends she made.
