Beloved husband of the late Alice, father (Pa) and best friend to his children, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle passed away suddenly Monday, December 15, 2003. Age 78 years. Robert Louis Doerr was born November 29, 1925 in Saginaw, the son of the late Henry and Amelia (Boensch) Doerr. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1943. He served with the the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Alice Rapin on October 12, 1957; she predeceased him March 12, 1995. He had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 38 years. After his retirement he worked at the Garden Shop in Bridgeport and was currently employed by Hank's Flowerland and W.L. Case & Company Funeral Directors. He was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church and served as an usher. Bob loved gardening and sharing its bounty with neighbors and friends. He enjoyed raising numerous birds and small animals. He especially cherished spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are six children, their spouses and his grandchildren, Mary (McCuaig) and Michael Hoffpauir, Alvin, Texas and her children, Courtney and Jamie McCuaig and her four step-children, Trina, Lance, Derek and Brandon; Bernadette and Larry Bernthal, Frankenmuth and their children, Erin, David and Katherine; Katie and Neil Hammerbacher, Saginaw and their children, Eric, Emily and Maggie; Robert A. and Brenda Doerr, St. Charles and their children, Alicia and Jonathan Doerr and Beau Hoffman; Judy and Scott Manapace, Reese and their children, Samantha, Hannah and Travis; and CPT. Patricia Doerr, West Point, New York; and one special great-granddaughter, Sierra McCuaig. He also leaves one sister, Agnes Benkert, Saginaw, one brother and his wife, Henry and Frances Doerr, Flushing; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Doerr, Clio; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in the Rapin family; many nieces, nephews and their families. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Michael McCuaig, two brothers, Carl and Herbert and his wife Beatrice Doerr and a brother- in-law, Michael Benkert. Funeral Mass will take place 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Road. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday and then on Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. where they may meet at 8:00 p.m. Thursday for a parish vigil service. She had been employed by Trippensee Planetarium Corp. in Saginaw as Secretary/Bookkeeper for 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Surviving besides her husband, Charles are one daughter and son-in-law, Janine and R. Paul Stajdl of Saginaw; four grandsons, Jeffrey (Brenda) Stajdl of Saginaw; John (Jennifer) Stajdl of Westland, Mich.; James and Jeremy Stajdl of Saginaw; three great-grandchildren, Shelby, Benjamin and Seth Stajdl; four brothers and three sisters, Bernard, Albert, Gerald and Louis Rapin, all of Saginaw; Sister Mary Judith R.S.M. of Farmington; Joan Voise of Saginaw; and Lenore Strohmer of Livonia; brother-in-law, Robert Doerr of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. A brother, Charles Rapin and a sister, Alice Doerr predeceased her. Funeral service will take place 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. David L.     Sister Mary Judith Rapin, RSM, Sister of Mercy, Educator, Dean of Women, 87, died May 23, 2005 at McAuley Retirement Center in Farmington Hills. She had been a Sister of Mercy for 68 years. Born to Charles and Eva Marie (Borey) Rapin on November 25, 1917 in Saginaw, Michigan. Florence Rapin joined the Sisters of Mercy in Dubuque, Iowa in 1936 and was given the name Sister Mary Judith. She made profession of perpetual vows in Detroit on August 16, 1942. Sister Judith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercy College of Detroit, a Master of Arts from the University of Detroit, and did post-graduate work at Notre Dame University. Her teaching assignments began at St. Mary's School in Hemlock and continued at St. Mary's in Bay City, St. Mary Magdalen in Hazel Park and Greater Muskegon Catholic Central High School. Her assignments at Mount Mercy Academy in Grand Rapids over the years included caring for boarding students, teaching home economics and speech, and overseeing purchasing, personnel and faculty. Sister Judith served at Mercy College of Detroit as registrar from 1956-1961 and as Dean of Women from 1961-1965. She was responsible for the college's learning resource center from 1969-1973. She also served as business manager for the Sisters of Mercy Generalate in Bethesda, Maryland and as secretary for the Sisters of Mercy Provincialate in Farmington Hills. Sister Judith cared for her mother during the last two years of her life, worked with the mentally challenged in a foster home in Bad Axe and assited the principal at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Detroit. She retired to McAuley Center in 1996. Sister Judith was recognized and respected for her many accomplishments as teacher, counselor and administrator. She was inducted into the Saginaw Catholic Schools Hall of Fame in 1991. Sister Judith's family recalls her many talents and how she enjoyed using them for others. She would often spend vacations with them and enjoyed baking them special treats. She was a skilled seamstress and could knit, crochet and do calligraphy as well. Within her religious community she is remembered as a generous and loving person. Sister Judith is survived by her brothers, Bernard, Albert and Gerald of Saginaw and Louis of Freeland; sisters, Lenore Strohmer of Livonia and Joan Leaman of Saginaw; many nieces and nephews and by her Mercy community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Davis and Alice Doerrr; her brother Charles; and her aunt, Sister Mary Victoria Rapin, RSM. A welcoming service will be held at McAuley Center on May 25, 2005 at 3:00 p.m., with a scripture and remembrance vigil at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated in McAuley Center's Sacred Heart Chapel on May 26, 2005 at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. McCabe Funeral Home, Farmington Hills, is in charge of arrangements. Son of the late Charles and Eva (Borey) Rapin, Albert was born August 22, 1923 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Al married Irma L. Luckey, his loving wife of 59 years, on July 20, 1946. She survives him. He was Superintendent of the Catholic Cemetery Commission for the Diocese of Saginaw retiring in November of 1988. Al was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #593 and very active in the Athletic Association of St. Stephen High School. Surviving besides his wife Irma are two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Joseph Rapin, James (Susan) Rapin, Amy (Brian) Reetz, all of Saginaw; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Scott) Stasik, Jamie, Jennifer, Nick, Andrew Rapin and Emily Reetz; two sisters, Joan (Ed) Leaman and Lenore Strohmer; three brothers, Louis (Jean) Rapin, Bernard Rapin and Gerald Rapin; many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Rapin; three sisters, Sister Mary Judith Rapin, Alice Doerr and Mary Davis. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Francis Home and Heartland Hospice for all the love and care they had provided. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2006 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. North Carolina, was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, the Lather's Local 1028 and the St. Stephen's Athletic Association. Surviving are three sons and three daughters; Michelle and Tim Wideman, William Rapin, Patricia and David Lyttle, Barbara and David Westphal, David and Lisa Rapin, Bruce and Sarah Rapin; daughter in law Patricia Rapin, also 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.He was pre-deceased by his wife Collette, son Philip, sisters; Sr. Judith Rapin R.S.M., Mary Davis, Alice Doerr and brothers Charles and Albert Rapin. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 11a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Fr. James Heller will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the McIntyre Funeral Chapel, 500 N.
