  • Note: William F. "Bill" Brandt went to be with his Savior on Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was born on April 13, 1933, the second son of Emil and Martha (Korth) Brandt. On April 9, 1960 Bill was united in marriage to Ardis Mae Halverson. Bill was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Over the years, he taught Sunday School to High School students, was a member of the Church Council, served as Head Usher and was a Worship Assistant. Bill was also instrumental in starting the Lutheran Men's Fellowship Program at Good Shepherd. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Appleton, Golden K and was a Past President. Bill received the John F. Hixon Award, one of the highest international awards a Kiwanian can receive. For many years, Bill volunteered as a tutor for the United for Reading Success Program at Richmond Elementary School. Richmond Elementary School was also a favorite place for him to read to the Kindergarten classes. He was a longtime volunteer helping to serve noon lunches at the Salvation Army. Bill was a bell ringer and for many years a faithful volunteer for the Salvation Army Adopt-A-Family Program at Christmas Time. He was one of the original organizers and for many years the Chairman of the 1951 graduating class of Appleton Senior High School. For many years Bill served as a monitor at Appleton West High School where in 2007 he along with his brother Bob started the Appleton West High Key Club where Bill served as the Kiwanis Advisor of the Club. Bill was educated at Trinity Lutheran School in Kaukauna, Zion Lutheran School in Appleton, Appleton Senior High School, the University of Wisconsin in Madison and River Falls State University. While in high school, he was the Co-Captain of the football and track teams and received All Conference Honors in both sports as well as in basketball. Upon graduation from high school, he was the co-recipient of the Craftsmanship Shield, the highest honor a graduating senior can receive. He also received the Veterans of Foreign Wars Citizenship Award and was the Co-Recipient of the American Legion Outstanding Athlete Award. Bill was a member of the National Honor Society, and he also attended Badger Boys State where he was elected as the Mayor for the Boys State City he lived in. He was a Charter Member of the Central Wisconsin Mendota Gridiron Club. Bill played in the 1953 Rose Bowl Game as a member of the 1952 Wisconsin Badgers Big 10 Football Champions. For many years, Bill was an outstanding fast pitch softball player. In 1955, while playing for the Pond's Sport Shop All Stars, he was named the Outstanding Hitter in the ASA State Fast Pitch Softball Tournament. For 17 years, Bill was an accredited High School Football Official. For three years, he served as the City of Appleton Little League President. In 2015, Bill was awarded the Prestigious Friend of Education Award given by the Appleton Area Education Association.

    Bill liked to fish and especially enjoyed the times he spent on Lake Poygan and many Northern Wisconsin Lakes with sons Dave and Bob. Also, for many years, he enjoyed making woodcraft gifts for his friends. Bill was employed for 20 years at Valmet in the Purchasing Department as Senior Buyer. He retired from Kundinger Fluid Power Inc. as Manager of Purchasing in 1999.

    He was also a longtime member of Post 38 of the American Legion.

    Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Lavern & Ruth Halverson; sister-in-law: Joan Brandt and brother Robert Brandt.

    He is survived by his wife Ardis who was not only his wife but his closest and dearest friend; his sons: David, Winneconne and Bob, Neenah; grandson Brandon (Samantha) and brother Kenneth.

    A Funeral Service for Bill will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2220 E College Ave, with Rev. Dr. Martin Koeller and Rev. Timothy Seabaugh officiating. Military Honors will follow. Friends may visit the family at church on Tuesday from 5 - 7 pm, and again Wednesday at the church from 9AM until the time of service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for their Thanks and Praise Song Group.

  • Note: Gary J. Brunette, 71, Howard resident, died early Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014, at home following a lengthy illness. He was born November 26, 1942, in Green Bay to the late Reginald and Josephine (Devroy) Brunette. Gary married the former Darlene Glime on December 4, 1969, celebrating 45 years of marriage together. He was employed at KI until his retirement. Gary never passed up the opportunity to play a game of cards, and he anxiously awaited the beginning of Baseball Season to watch his "Cubs." He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo. Gary started and ended his day with a cup of coffee. He was currently a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Fred (Judy) Turrittin, Cecil; Mary Jane Glime, Green Bay ; and Tim (Carol) Limberg, Wausaukee; three nieces, Sue (Scott) Wood, Ohio; Dawn (Larry) Fleuchaus and Claudine Turrittin, all of Franklin.

    He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary (Harry) Curry; and his in-laws, Felix and Margaret Glime.

    Friends may call at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave, Howard, after 10:30 a.m. Saturday until time of mass. Memorial Mass 12 noon Saturday at the church with Rev.
