Family: Micky J Zasoba (b. February 14, 1948, d. January 2, 2016)

Biography

  • Birth: Denise M VanderZanden was born on November 15, 1954.
  • Death: She died on March 16, 2014, at age 59.
  • Note: Denise M. Vander Zanden

Denise began her earthly journey in Green Bay, Wisconsin on November 15, 1954, joining the family of Hilde and Bud Vander Zanden. She was taken from us too soon on Sunday, March 16, 2014, from complications from Spindle Cell Melanoma. Denise lived life on her own terms and was a free spirit who fought until the end.

Denise worked in the Brown County Tract Index Office after high school and then enrolled at FVTC in the Conservation Technology program. Micky drove the Tech route bus and determined to get to know that tall redheaded rider. She spent two summers helping to create the Peninsula State Park bike trail in Door County. Denise retired in 2012 after working as the Agriculture Support Staff at Outagamie UWEX. Denise was one of the friendly faces of the Support Staff who greeted clientele and she greatly enjoyed helping them with their needs. Year round you could see her walking or biking to work, occasionally giving a one finger salute (the mitten in winter) to rude drivers.

Denise's favorite place to be was on the seat of her bicycle "Fury" or on the Aldo Leopold bench in her flower garden with a fragrant cup of coffee in one hand and an intriguing book in the other. Every spring she greeted her flowers and foliage by name as they popped their heads out of the soil.

If her friends mentioned the words adventure or drive by, Denise was the first in line to join in. Many back road trips were taken with Denise at the steering wheel of the Saabino and her faithful sidekick Micky riding shotgun, road atlas on his lap.

Denise is survived by her husband Micky Zasoba; her mother Hilde Vander Zanden; siblings: Barb (Jim) Heezen, Kathy (Ken) LaTour, Rob (Lynn) Vander Zanden, Dave (Cathy) Vander Zanden, JoAnn (Mike) Jeffrey and Sue (Fran) Gee; Micky's siblings: Peggy (Greg) Burton and Lance (Dawn) Walker; many nephews, nieces and awesome friends, who feel blessed to have been a part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, her father-in-law Al Zasoba, her mother-in-law Irene Welker, and brother-in-law Dale Zasoba.

Following Denise's wishes, her wishes were cremation with scattering of her remains. There will be no memorial service. Memorials may be directed to The Staff of Angels from Affinity Hospice, UW Health-Carbone Cancer Center in Madison, or your favorite non-profit organization. A special thank you to Dr. Douglas Grant for your compassion and care.

To each and every one of you, please don't cry for me. I lived a wonderful life! Thanks to all of you who rode this roller coaster with me. I would never have made it without you. Enjoy life, it is always too short. See you in the next chapter. Special thanks to friends Judy A. and Joanie B. for writing this obituary.

Micky J Zasoba

M, b. February 14, 1948, d. January 2, 2016

Family: Denise M VanderZanden (b. November 15, 1954, d. March 16, 2014)

Biography

  • Birth: Micky J Zasoba was born on February 14, 1948.
  • Death: He died on January 2, 2016, at age 67.
  • Note: Micky J. Zasoba, Age 67, Appleton, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. Micky was born in Stanley, Wisconsin, son of the late Eldon Zasoba and Irene Tytor. Micky worked for the City of Appleton as a public bus driver for many years and later at Kolosso Toyota prior to his retirement.

For many years, Micky and his late wife Denise Vanderzanden, would escape to the great outdoors, exploring nature with bicycle rides, hiking, and winter snowshoeing. During their adventures, Micky would practice his love of photography, capturing the array of nature's beauty and the essence of life. He enjoyed taking photos while Denise would garden in their tranquil backyard filled with plants and flowers. Inside their quaint home, he would bake his delicious chocolate chip cookies while listening to his vast collection of American folk music. Later, when traveling was limited, Micky brought the great outdoors inside. Always admiring one of America's strongest transportation systems, he began to construct a miniature model train set. Micky believed in cities growing up and not out, avoiding the destruction of America's wonderful natural resources. "Where are we always going? Some place we never are?" —Micky Zasoba

Micky is survived by his brother Lance (Dawn) Walker and their daughters Stacy and Hollie; his sister Peggy (Greg) Burton and their daughter Justine and Justine's son Caeden; nephews Robby (Patty Miller) Zasoba and their children Zakaria, Shannon and Hailee; Dillon Zasoba; nieces Robin (Tom) Austreng and their children Amanda, Nicole, Danielle, Anthony; Natasha Zasoba and her son Bryce Goebel; Naomi Zasoba and her daughters Sage Zasoba and Sierra Retzke. He is further survived by close friends Tom and Ann Norman, their daughter Maddie (his God-daughter) and other relatives and friends. Micky was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Denise, and his brother Dale. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Douglas Grant for his caring, compassion and friendship.
