Biography

  • Birth: Benjamin Ignatz Writz was born on February 23, 1923 in Marathon County, Wisconsin.
  • Death: He died on February 6, 1978, at age 54, in Marshfield, Wood Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Marshfield News-Herald, Tues. Feb. 7, 1978, p. 21:1. Services for Benjamin I. Writz, 713 E. Becker Rd., will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church. He died due to a heart condition at 12:55 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital where he had been admitted Dec. 25. He was 54. The Rev. George C. Passehl, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday and until services Thursday at the Rembs-Kundinger Chapel. St. John's Rosary-Altar Society will recite a rosary at 3 p.m. Wednesday. A parish vigil will be at 8. Mr. Writz was born Feb. 23, 1923 in the Town of Reitbrock, Marathon Co. He attended Holy Family Parochial School in Poniatowski and married Margaret J. Dellenbach July 30, 1949 at Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a truck driver for several years. In 1949 they moved to Marshfield and later moved to Wausau and Athens. In 1954, the Writzes returned to Marshfield where he was employed by the Neuendorf Transportation Co. as a truck driver, retiring 10 months ago due to ill health. Mr. Writz served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944-46, and was a member of the V.F.W. He also was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife; his father, Stanley of Edgar; four sons, Ronald of Kenosha, David, Lee and Mark, all of Marshfield; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Nancy) Trierweiler, Marshfield, and Gayle and Sue, both at home; three granddaughters; three brothers, Ray of Lake Villa IL, Jerome, LeSueur MN and Daniel of Abbotsford; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Leona) Jurkowski, Wausau, and Mrs. Jerome (Bernice) Passehl, Athens. He was predeceased by his mother, two sisters and three brothers.
