  • Note: Marilyn (Thomas) Stary, 76, Green Bay, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013. Born on August 9, 1936, in Green Bay, she is the daughter of the late Winford and Harriet (Vanden Heuvel) Thomas. She married Allen Stary on June 21, 1958, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Green Bay. Marilyn worked at the Catholic Diocese in Green Bay for Catholic Charities. Later in her career she worked for CESA #7, East De Pere High School, and NEWIST. Marilyn loved knitting and crocheting keepsakes including sweaters, afghans, personalized Christmas stockings, and baby items. She enjoyed baking and cooking and always made sure everyone had their favorite treat. Marilyn was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.

    She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Allen; five children, Randy (Carrie) Stary, Beth Bain, Debbie Stary, Gail (Wayne) Bergman, and David (Karan) Stary; twelve grandchildren; one brother, Norb (Linda) Thomas; three sisters, Carole Thomas, Claire Thomas, and Janice Thomas.

    Marilyn was preceded in death by her four brothers, Winford "Win" Thomas, Larry Thomas, Jerry Thomas, and Jim Thomas; one sister, Lorraine Thomas and one infant sister, Delores.

    Visitation at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthews Street, Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 3:30 PM with Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Carole graduated from St. Matthew's Class of '55 and then she went to St. Joseph's Academy graduating in '59. She then attended the Vocational School where she acquired her practical nurses certification. Carole worked at St. Vincent's Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, and Brown County Mental Health center as an LPN retiring in 2004. She enjoyed flower gardening, bicycling with her twin, Claire, reading, jigsaw puzzles, adult coloring, and playing cards with friends who she graduated from grade school with. Carole especially loved times spent with her nieces and nephews.

    She is survived by two siblings, her twin sister, Claire, and her brother, Norbert (Linda) Thomas; sisters-in-law, Val Thomas, and Ellie Thomas; brother-in-law, Al Stary; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

    Carole was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Win (Audrey) Thomas, Larry Thomas, Gerald (Eunice) Thomas, and Jim Thomas; sisters, Lorraine Thomas, Marilyn Stary, Janice Thomas, and Dolores Thomas; and nephew, Matthew Thomas.

    Visitation at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthews St., Wednesday, March 2, from 9 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Burial at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Grancare Rehab Center.

Born on April 14, 1939, in Green Bay, she is the daughter of the late Winford N. and Harriet J. (Vanden Heuvel) Thomas. Janice was a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. She was employed at Catholic Charities for 42 years as the Adoption Coordinator Specialist. Janice loved sports, especially golf, baseball, bowling, and fishing. She enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden, and times spent with her two cats, Cricket and Rascal. In retirement, Janice took pride in making custom candles, and which she sold through her business, Candles By Janice. More than anything, Janice cherished family gatherings and reunions, especially the Fourth of July.

    She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Norb (Linda) Thomas, Bellevue; two sisters, Carole A. Thomas, and Claire M. Thomas, both of Allouez; one brother-in-law, Allen Stary, Green Bay; four sisters-in-law, Audrey Thomas, Val Thomas, Eunice Thomas, and Ellie Thomas; many nieces and nephews.

    Janice was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lorraine and Delores Thomas, and Marilyn Stary; and four brothers, Winford J., Lawrence, Gerald, and James L. Thomas.

    Visitation at MALCORE (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird St., Friday (TODAY) from 4 - 8 p.m. Wake service 7:00 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Saturday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 130 Saint Matthews St., from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.

  • Note: Lisa Marie Vande Hei, age 51, Green Bay; Daughter, sister, mother, aunt, great-aunt and friend; Discovered another plane of existence on May 17th, 2013 after a lengthy bout with breast cancer. She was born on November 2nd, 1961 at Bellin Hospital to the late Earl Harry and Dorothy Bertha (Lisch) Vande Hei.

    Lisa attended Valley View Elementary, Cormier Elementary, Parkview Middle, Ashwaubenon High and NWTC. She received her G.E.D. in 1981.

    Lisa married William R. Johnson in 1979 and together they have two sons; Jeremy William and Matthew Michael. She and Bill divorced in 1989.

    Lisa then partnered with Jon F. Sundquist with whom she has a daughter, Erin Marie. She and Jon enjoyed 9 years together and remained good friends.

    In 2002, Lisa met her soul mate and best friend Douglas A. Turrittin. He made a dream of hers come true when he took her on a tropical vacation to Jamaica in 2003 and many a weekends spent at the cabin. He also took her motorcycle riding, which she loved. They lived, laughed with and loved each other until the time of her death.

    Lisa had many passions she enjoyed. She loved 'up northing' with Doug and liked to fish and enjoy nature. Lisa was an accomplished cook, baker, singer, photographer, and gardener. She loved to sing and make wonderful meals and baked goods for family and friends. Lisa credits her love for gardening, cooking and baking to her mother; who was a loving and patient teacher. Her love of music and singing to her father; whose mandolin, harmonica and guitar playing and singing she adored.

    Lisa was also an avid cruciverbalist and pursued her love for crosswords and other puzzles.

    Lisa is survived by her son Jeremy Johnson, his wife Chandra and her three daughters (Appleton, WI); Her son Matthew Johnson (Green Bay, WI); Jeremy and Matthew's father, William Johnson (Suamico, WI); Her daughter Erin Marie, special friend Amilliano Garcia and her unborn granddaughter, Ayanah Nayomi Marie Garcia (Green Bay, WI); Erin's father, Jon Sundquist (Green Bay, WI); Her soul mate and love of her life, Douglas Turrittin (Green Bay, WI); Sister and brother-in-law Nancy (Hubert) Joski and their children; Joelle (Keith) Hocutt - great nieces Montana, Sienna and Fiona Hocutt (Zebulon, NC), Angela Joski (Williams Bay, WI), Terry (Joseph) Munoz - great nephews Jonathan and Alec Rodgers (Green Bay, WI) and Janee' (Vincent) Zawlocki - great nephews Vincent IV, Jack and Tony (Green Bay, WI); Sister Carol Brown, her son Jason Brown and special friend Tracy Frewerd - great niece Amber Lyn Frewerd (Green Bay, WI) She is also survived by her friends and acquaintances across Green Bay and by her feline companions, Wally and Girlie-Pie.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy; Sister Janice Rae Vande Hei; Paternal grandmother Antoinette Marie Vande Hei; Maternal grandparents, Richard and Mathilda (Knuth) Lisch and numerous cousins and other relatives. (Written by: Lisa herself)
