  • Note: Francis Anthony Gitter, age 81, of Yuma, AZ and formerly of Appleton, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017. He was born on December 2, 1935 in New London to the late Edwin and Burnette Gitter. Frank graduated from high school in 1950 from St. Lawrence Seminary. Frank went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Germany. He also served his community with the Appleton Police Department from 1960 to 1989.

    Frank meant a great deal to all of those around him, especially his family. He was always a great mentor and teacher. Frank had a great sense of humor, he had a smile that could light up a room, and he was known to give big bear hugs. He was also a very religious person who had a strong faith. Frank was a talented handy man, and an avid Packers and Badgers fan. He enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and Habitat For Humanity. He was a joy to be around and was a typical stubborn Gitter.

    Frank is survived by his longtime companion Evida Sundean; children Dennis (Sue) Gitter and Judy (Larry) Kitterman; grandchildren: Michael (Kate) Gitter, Meghan Gitter, Kara Gitter, Joseph Kitterman; and great-grandchildren Adelyn and Ariana. He is also survived by his siblings: Rita Guzzetta, Tom (Louise) Gitter, Dick Gitter, Peter Gitter; sisters-in-law: Myrtle Gitter and Joan Gitter; and many nieces and nephews. Frank is further survived by Evida’s children: Daniel (Sheila) Gottbreht, Susan Ginn, Sonya Gottbreht, Serna (Ramon) Duarte; grandchildren Rocky and Samantha, in addition to 9 more grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Phil (Sandi) Gitter, Jim Gitter, Larry Gitter, Dave (Shirley) Gitter; brother-in-law Dominic Guzzetta; and sister-in-law Betty Gitter.

    The Memorial Mass for Frank will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Gabriel Parish, 900 Geiger Street, Neenah with Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the mass.

  • Note: Mary “Helen” Montoure, age 85 of Shawano, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 in Shawano. Born on July 14, 1927 in Green Bay, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Gladys (Zahrt) Kimball. On August 15, 1953 she was united in marriage to Lee Robert Montoure in Seymour. Helen worked for many years as a teacher, in locations such as a one room school house in Red River, in Oneida, and for NWTC. When not teaching, she enjoyed the company of a good book and was very active in her community, serving as the president of the Shawano City County Library Board for over 20 years and as a board member of the Nicolet Federated Library System. Helen was also a founding member of the Shawano DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) as well as a founding member of the Navarino Nature Center and was an active member of the Shawano Women’s Club and the Shawano County Historical Society. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and was always willing to help her daughter and son-in-law with their flower farm. Helen also liked canning, cooking, researching genealogy and was a lover of nature and animals.

    Helen is survived by: 3 daughters, Mary Lee (Reed) Johnson of Cecil, Julie Montoure Bottois of Shawano, Beth (Dave) Westfahl of Fremont; a grandson, Nicholas of Shawano; a brother, William Kimball of Lansing, MI; a sister, Phyllis (Lyle) Sconzert of Green Bay; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette and Joan Kimball both of Seymour.

    Helen was preceded in death by: her husband, Lee on July 2, 1980; her parents; 2 brothers, Charles and Robert Kimball; and a sister, Doris Woldt.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Shawano on Friday from 4-7pm and on Saturday from 10am until the time of the service.

Born in Green Bay on Jan. 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand Challe and Evelyn Van Eyck. Arvella's brother Myron Challe died in 2008. Arvella worked in the Restaurant and Food business before retiring. She enjoyed working on the farm with her animals and working in her garden.

    She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Florence Challe, Junction City, Oregon; four nieces, Lois (Charles) Fischer, Janet (Bill) Judd, Cindy (Mike) Armstrong, all of Eugene, OR., and Diane (Jim) Foster, Springfield, OR.; two nephews, David (Val) Challe, of Corvallis, OR., and Alan Challe, Waianae, Hawaii.

    Private family services were held. Arvella's cremated remains will be buried at St. Peter Church Cemetery in Lincoln, WI. MALCORE (EAST) Funeral Home assisted the family.
