    JOHN LIESCH SUCCUMBS AT SON'S HOME HERE
    John Liesch, 78, who had been living with his son, Harry, at 1032 N. Webster avenue for the last 10 years, died Monday by old age complications. He had been in the hospital for three weeks.
    Before coming to Green Bay Mr. Liesch had lived in Appleton, Kaukauna and Shawano.
    Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. A. Mierswa, Milwaukee; Miss Sophie Liesch, Augusta, Ga.; three sons, Walter, Laona; William, Oshkosh; and Harry, Green Bay; three sisters, Mrs. John Delano, Dows, Ia.; Mrs. Herman Muck, Green Bay, and one in Minneapolis, Minn.; 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Findeisen-Grieser chapel by the Rev. Ben Plopper. Burial will be in the Union cemetery, Kaukauna.

  • Note: Funeral services were held here Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church for Walter W. Liesch, 71, traffic manager for the Laona and Northern railway since 1951, who died of a heart attack in his home Saturday night.

    The Rev. Frank D. Harris officiated as the rites, and burial was in the Laona cemetery. The Halverson Funeral Home of Crandon was in charge of arrangements. Masonic rites also were held.

    Prior to assuming the duties of traffic manager with the Laona Railway he served as station agent for the Chicago and North Western Railway in Laona from 1914 to 1951.

    He was a member of the Prebyterian Church at Laona and served as an elder, trustee and Sunday school superintendent for 43 years.

    He was married to the former Hazel Allender December 11, 1909. He was born in Kaukauna, October 24, 1885, and resided in Laona since June 1914.

    Survivors are his wife, Hazel; two daughters, Mrs. George Weidner, Laona, and Mrs. Willard Mueller, Madison; six sons, Kenneth and Robert, Laona, William, Gary Indiana, Donald, Green Bay, Bruce, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Keith, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Sophia Liesch, Augusta, S.C.; one brother, William H.Liesch, Madison; and 21 grandchildren. A brother and sister preceded him in death.

Hazel Luella Allender

    Hazel Liesch, a long-time resident of Laona, died March 30, 1984, at Crandon Health Care Center at the age of 92.

    The daughter of William Frederick and Ella Capitola (Webster) Allender was born at Embarrass on Sept. 16, 1891.
    She moved to Laona in 1914 from Embarrass and lived there the rest of her life prior to entering the nursing home. She was a charter member of the Laona Women's Club, served on the Public Library board for 60 years, and was a 50 year member of Halcyon Chapter #187, OES. She was a member of Laona Presbyterian church and the Ladies Aid Society.

    She married Walter William Liesch on Dec. 11, 1909 in Shawano. He died August 10, 1957. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.
    Mrs. Liesch is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George (Mavis) Weidner of Laona and Mrs. Willard (Shirley) Mueller of Madison; six sons, Kenneth (Beatrice), Laona; William, Valparaiso, Ind.; Donald (Grace), Green Bay; Keith, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Robert (Marjorie), Madison; Bruce (Myrtle), Wayzata, Minnesota; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

    Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 2, at Laona Presbyterian church, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Merle Elrod and Rev. Edgar Gharis at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at the church, and interment was in Laona cemetery. Halverson-Suminski Funeral Home, Crandon, was in charge of arrangements.

    Pallbearers included Lynn Liesch, Ken Liesch, Scott Mueller, Bill Liesch, Jerry Liesch and George Weidner.
    Memorials appreciated to: Laona Presbyterian church, Ovitz-Castaldo Medical Center, or Laona Rescue Squad.
