  • Note: JOHN J MILLER, well known farmer on route 2, died at his home on Saturday evening, aged 70 years.

    The decedent was born in the town of Maple Grove in 1873, a son of the late Jos. Miller. In the year 1900 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Spatchek at St. Mary’s church, Reedsville and the couple moved on the farm where they have resided since. Mr. Miller was active in his church, being a member of the Holy Name society and the Catholic Knights of the St. Mary’s church here for many years.

    He is survived by the widow and ten children. They are John, Raymond, Joseph, Francis, Clement, Charles and Alfred and daughters, Veronica, Anna and Monica. There are eleven grandchildren.

    The funeral took place Wednesday morning. The remains lay at the Luecker Funeral home where the rosary was recited by members of the Holy Name society, after which they were borne to St. Mary’s church where funeral services were held and requiem mass was said by Rev. Raymond Schauer. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery north of the city.

  • Death: He died on April 15, 1958, at age 53.
  • Burial: He was buried in Holy Family Cemetery (formerly St Mary), Brillion, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Raymond J. Miller. 53, route 2, Brillion, shot and killed himself in the kitchen of his farm home about noon Tuesday. Manitowoc County Coroner Dr. Theodore Tietgen said Miller had been despondent and had returned home from a stay in a mental institution only the night before. Tietgen said Miller fired a 12-gauge shotgun into his chest. No inquest will be held.

    Miller was born Feb. 2. 1905 in the town of Maple Creek, Manitowoc county, and had been a deputy sheriff for 28 years. Funeral services will be at 9:30 Friday morning at St. Mary Catholic church, Brillion, with burial in the parish cemetery

    Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Carol Ann and Margaret Mary, both at home; two step-sons, Ronald Wenzel, at home, and Kenneth Wenzel, Green Bay; six brothers, Clement, Charles and Alfred, all of Brillion. Francis, Oshkosh, Dr. Joseph, Mt. Calvary, and John, Stillwater, Minn.; and three sisters, Miss Veronica Miller, Brillion, Mrs. Edward Svatek, Reedsville, and Mrs. Kenneth Wagner, route 4, Chilton.

    JOSEPH JERABEK

    Joseph Jerabeck (sic) Sr., 81, retired town of Rockland farmer, died Sunday at the Holy Family hospital of pneumonia.

    Funeral services wil be held from the E. J. Shimon funeral home in Reedsville Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. from the St. Mary's Catholic church in Reedsville. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    Mr. Jerabek was born Dec. 20 (sic), 1861 in Bohemia and came to America in 1869 with his parents. He married Antonia Hlavacek on Jan. 26, 1885. The couple resided on a farm one and one-half miles west of Reedsville and retired 15 years ago. Mrs. Jerabeck died eight years ago.

    Survivors are seven daughters, Mrs. Anton Novak of Grimms, Mrs. Charles Burich and Mrs. Roman Wenzel of Brillion route 2, Mrs. John Buenzow of Two Rivers, Mrs. Martin O'Connor of Milwaukee, Mrs. Clifford Ferris of Waukegan and Mrs. Rose Valonte, North Chcago; one son, Joseph on the homestead; 36 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

    The body will lie in state at the funeral home and the Holy Name society of which Mr. Jerabek was a member will recite the rosary there Tuesday at 8 p.m.

    ANTONIA JERABEK

    MRS. JERABEK, DIES AT HOME
    Resided In Reedsville And Vicinity Many Years Mrs. Joseph Jerabek Sr., 67, who resided in Reedsville and the immediate vicinity for many years, died at her home in the village at 5:30 a.m. today of pleurisy and complications.

    The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church, Reedsville. The Rev. William Koutnik will officiate and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery at Reedsville.
    Mrs. Jerabek, whose maiden name was Antoinette Hlavachek, was born June 13, 1867(sic), in the town of Cato.
    On Jan 26, 1886, she was married to Mr. Jerabek. They resided on a farm two miles west of Reedsville for 35 years and moved to the village upon their retirement 13 years ago.

    Survivors are the widower; six daughters, Mrs. Anton Novak, Grimms; Mrs. John Buenzow, Mishicot; Mrs. Charles J. Burich, Brillion; Mrs. Michael O'Connor, Milwaukee; Mrs. Clifford Ferres, Waukegan; Mrs. Rose Zonte, Manitowoc; and Mrs. Roman Wenzel, Brillion; and two sons, Frank, Cato and Joseph Jr., Reedsville. Six children preceded her in death. Survivors also include a brother, Joseph Hlavachek, Reedsville, two sisters, Mrs. Frances Naidl, Branch, and Mrs. Anna Shimon, Reedsville, 34 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

  • Note: Catherine, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller of the town of Maple Grove, died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth's Hospital at Appleton, after a brief illness.
    Born Sept. 4, 1901 she had attained the age of 16 years, 1 month and 30 days. She is survived by her parents, six brothers, John, Raymond, Joseph, Francis, Clement and Charles, and two sisters, Veronica and Anna. Two grandfathers and a grandmother, Joseph Miller of the city and Mr. and Mrs. John Spatchek of the town of Maple Grove, also survive.
    The funeral took place Tuesday morning from St. Mary's Church, Rev. Father Garthaus officiating. The Young Ladies Sodality and Catholic Knights of which her father is a member attended in a body.
    Having reached that period when one is about to choose a vocation in life, and yet young enough so as not to be defiled by a corrupted world, she was called to that beautiful home where they know neither sorrow nor care. May she rest in peace.

  • Note: Rev. John J. Miller, 85, of Hammond, passed away Tuesday evening, August 30, 1988, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond where he had been a resident since May 6, 1988. Rev. Miller was a retired Catholic priest of the Diocese of Superior.

    Rev. Miller was born on July 6, 1903, at West Maple Grove township, Manitowoc County, the son of John J. and Anna Spatchek Miller. He attended St. Mary Grade School in Brillion and attended high school and college at St. Lawrence at Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin, where he graduated in 1927. He attended St. Francis Seminary, in St. Francis, Wisconsin. He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend Paul P. Rhode D.D., Bishop of Green Bay on February 25, 1931. He celebrated his first mass at St. Mary Catholic Church in Brillion on March 2, 1931. Rev. Miller served as assistant pastor at St. Boniface Church, Manitowoc, Sacred Heart Church, Oshkosh, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Kimberly. He served as chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Superior. He was pastor at St. John Vianny church at Lake Tomahawk and St. Peter Church, Cameron.

    He retired in 1972 and decided to live in Hammond where he maintained an apartment until entering the nursing home after undergoing surgery in January 1988. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and Lions.

    He is survived by five brothers, Joseph F. Miller, M.D. of Mt. Calvary, Francis A. Miller of Oshkosh, Clement W. Miller of Brillion and Alfred E. Miller of Brillion; three sisters, Veronica Miller of Brillion, Mrs. Eddie (Ann) Svatek of Reedsville, and Mrs. Kenneth (Monica) Wagner of Chilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bernard and Raymond and a sister, Catherine.
