- Note: Richard D. "Dick" Baird, 66, of Chilton, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, after a brief battle with cancer. Richard was born April 8, 1950, in Green Bay, to Shirley and Rosemary (Tilque) Baird. Richard served his country in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. Following his honorable discharge, he married his soulmate, Beatrice "Bea" Breit on June 19,1976, in Chilton.
Richard has worked for various companies such as Kohler Company, Oshkosh Truck, Westside Sales and Service, Bergstrom, Auto Source, and ARPS in New Holstein. If he wasn't off working at a job, in the yard, or on his house, he could be found helping his wife with B'z Cakes, their wedding cake business, even if it meant setting up, taking down, and setting up again. With his strong work ethic, Richard was never fully retired, and worked right up until he was diagnosed with cancer. His family appreciated all that Richard was to them and will be forever grateful for instilling upon them his traits of hard work and strong moral compass.
He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #125 in Chilton, where he actively participated in services and meetings, including parades. In his free time, Richard enjoyed taking rides on his Harley, cutting his lawn or blowing snow, working on Bea's constant unending 'Honey-do list', tinkering on small appliances, heaters or fans, but especially spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Bea Baird; his mother, Rosemary Baird; and his four children, Christopher (Jamie) Baird of Green Bay, Nickole Burr of Houston, TX, SSGT Mark Baird of Beaufort, SC and Mindy (Alberto) Guardado of Oceanside, CA; and six grandchildren, Courtney Fish, Sierrah, Winter, and Tallon Baird, and Elizabeth and Alberto, III, Guardado; four sisters, Gin (Gerry) Buechel, Pat (Mike) Miller, Sue Baird, and Judy (Melvin) Mathes; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to his father, Shirley, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Michael Baird.
Funeral services will be at 7:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main Street) in Chilton with the Rev. Matthew Widder officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday.
A memorial fund has been established in the name of Richard D. Baird.
Richard's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to him and his family during this difficult time.
