  • Note: Carol Smoot, 76, Green Bay, formerly of Kelly Lake, died Tuesday morning, March 6, 2012, at home. She was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Kaukauna, to Argo and Naomi (Colson) Graf. On Sept. 26, 1963, she married Robert E. Smoot Sr. at the Hickory Methodist Church. The couple retired to Kelly Lake in 1992 and following Bob's death on March 4, 2006, Carol moved to Green Bay. While living in Green Bay she volunteered for various charitable causes and also worked for her son's company, Thario Building Services. As a lifelong Methodist, Carol was actively involved in every parish she was a member.

    Survivors are her children, Roger (Diane) Thario, Green Bay; their family, Todd, Tammy, Adam, Emilie, Karlynn and Bobby; Thomas Smoot, Green Bay; his family, Jon, Ryan, Jillian and Rebecca; Robert Smoot Jr., Green Bay; Lorie (Gary) Walker, Suring, their family, Paul and Dave Mayernik; 11 great-grandchildren, Scott, Tyler, Tennison, Jackson, Ireland, Kasen, Amelia, Jason, Megan, Brooklyn and Lincoln; one brother, Robert Graf, Green Bay; two sisters, Pat (Bob) Broetzman, Hickory; Barbara Makoski, Gillett; many nieces and nephews.

    Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bernadette Schneider and Mary Jean Linzmeyer and one brother-in-law, Joe Makoski.

    Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Hickory United Methodist Church, Cty. Rd. M, Suring, until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Pastors Candace Ascher and Greg Jewison officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery, Town of Maple Valley.     The Smoot family would like to thank the nurses and staffs of Bellin Hospital 1-South, Rennes Health Care Center in De Pere, especially Michelle, Unity Hospice and her special neighbors, Ramona and JoAnn for the care and concern shown Carol during their time together.

  • Note: William O. Novak, 83, Dyckesville, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 3, 2015, with all seven of his children at his side. He was born in Argonne, on Sept. 26, 1931, to the late George J. and Della (Adkins) Novak. On Oct. 9, 1954, Bill married Ruth M. Klinker in Neenah. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2014. Bill served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, stationed on the U.S.S. Fechteler. He was a member of the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262, Luxemburg.

    He began his family and career at Twelve Corners and worked in the family cheese factory in Black Creek, later owning Sunnyside and Hebel's Corner Cheese Factory. He was elected president of Wisconsin Accredited Cheese Company and remained president for many years. He was very proud of his cheese making accomplishments which included the Wisconsin State Fair Governors Sweepstakes First Place Cheddar Award in 1979, also placing third in the World Championship Cheese Contest in 1980. He sold the business which is now known as BelGioioso Cheese, Denmark, Wis. Continuing his involvement in the cheese industry he served at the Wisconsin State Fair as a cheese judge in 1995 and was involved in the National Cheese Exchange, representing AMPI. He was very involved in his parish community at St. Louis Parish, Dyckesville, Aspiro and Serra Club. Bill and Ruth loved to travel extensively around the world. He certainly enjoyed spending time at the cottage with his family and friends.

    Survivors include his seven children, Joe (Sue) Novak, Tim (Marian) Novak, Mary Anne (Dan) Froelich, Bill (Angie) Novak, Susan (Ian) Clayton, Patti (John) Baur, Katie (Randy) Lardinois; 22 grandchildren, Christy (Jason) Miller, Colleen (Jamie) Sprutles, Bill (Lani) Novak, Kim (Luke) Becks, Ethan, John, Catherine Novak, Amelia (Michael) Holman, Sam (Katie) Froelich, Cassie (Jason) Sprangers, Peter (Kelsey Anderson) Froelich, Andy Froelich, Tony (Liz Young) Froelich, Heather (Ben) Tinker, Ben (Lindsey) Novak, Jessica (Capt. Adam) Faltersack, Michael (Nicole) Everard, Tiffany Baur, Ashley (SSgt. Leal) Potter, Travis Baur, Joe (Maggie) Lardinois, Jordan Lardinois; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Gladys Stanton, Ann Rudie and Sister Anne Arthur SSND; nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Bill was preceded in death by one brother, Don (Doris) Novak and brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law.

    Friends may call at St. Louis Church, Dyckesville, 3:30 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Closing parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. at the church with Pat Ratajczak, Pastoral Leader. Visitation will continue 8:30 to 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at St. Louis Church Dyckesville. Funeral 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church with Bishop Robert Morneau and Rev. John Van Deuren concelebrating. Full military rites following the funeral Mass. Entombment in Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.

    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Bill's name.
