  • Note: Richard "Dick" Nelsen, 80, Green Bay resident, died unexpectedly early Monday morning, October 7, 2013 while he and Marilyn were up at their cottage. He was born June 1, 1933 in Green Bay to the late Richard and Ella Nelsen Sr. Dick graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1951. He married the former Marilyn Gross on August 4, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in DePere. Dick was self employed most of his life and began his career as a cabinet maker. He was a homebuilder, real estate agent and a land developer. One of Dick's largest projects was the Edison Park Subdivision on Green Bay's east side. He was always an active man with many interests. Dick was a Babe Ruth and Little League coach and in his later years was passionate about his woodworking projects. He served on the city planning board and was an avid sportsman who belonged to numerous conservation organizations and truly enjoyed turkey, deer and bear hunting. He was even known in some hunting circles as "The King". Dick was an avid Packer fan and season ticket holder. Their seats were in the south end zone where his job in row 1, was to catch leaping Packer players after they scored a touchdown. Airplanes intrigued him and he enjoyed attending the EAA event in Oshkosh. Dick was a true bargain shopper with one of his main stops being Menards, the "Man's store". Dick was a gardener and enjoyed his winters in Florida with Marilyn. He was a friend to many and his family was his pride and joy. Dick was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

    He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 57 years and their four sons: Keith and Bonnie; Randall; David and Linda Nelsen, all of Green Bay and Kyle and Connie, Cape Girardeau, MO; five grandchildren: Jessica, Emily, Michael, Spencer, and Miranda; his brother, James (Maryl) Nelsen, Green Bay; his in-laws; Norbert (Clare) Gross, Green Bay; Gerald Gross, Aurora, CO; Clifford Gross, Green Bay; Rosemary (Michael) Safdi, Cincinnati, OH; Janet Gross, Green Bay and Deena Nelsen, Zephyr Hills, FL; nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Hotchkiss and a brother, Floyd Nelsen; sister-in-law, Lois Fulwiler and two brothers-in-law: James Gross and William Gross.

    Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday. Parish wake service 7:00 pm Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2040 Hillside Ln, after 10:30 am until time of mass. Funeral mass 11:30 am Thursday at the church with Rev.   • Note: Michael L. Dashner, Sonoma, Calif., formerly of De Pere, died on May 28, 2003, at the age of 55, following a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born July 26, 1947, to Arlene (Heezen) Dashner and the late Perry Dashner in Green Bay. He was a 1965 graduate of West De Pere High School and graduated from the University of Illinois-Champaign in 1969 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He served four years in the United States Air Force at Alamagordo, N.M. Following his discharge he was employed by North American Rockwell. He later moved to California settling in Sonoma where he operated a construction business for the past 25 years.

    Mike is survived by his son, Andy Dashner, California his mother, Arlene Dashner, De Pere and his brother and sister-in-law, James and Lyn Dashner, De Pere and one nephew, Michael Dashner, De Pere.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Perry Dashner and his grandparents.

    Funeral was held in Sonoma, Calif. A Memorial Service will be held here at a later date. Call family for arrangements.
