Biography

  • Birth: Mary Ann Clancy was born on October 7, 1925 in Green Bay, Brown Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: She died on April 30, 2011, at age 85, in Tampa, Hillsborough Co, Florida.
  • Burial: She was buried in St Patrick Cemetery, Askeaton, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Mary Ann Clancy, 85, passed away on April 30, 2011, in Tampa, Florida, with family at her side. Born on October 7, 1925 to Wm. J Clancy and Mary Ann (Brogan) Clancy, Mary was the second oldest of the five Clancy siblings. Mary put her trademark practicality and wry sense of humor to use on the farm as she survived many adventures as the lone girl with four brothers. After graduating from Kaukauna High School in 1943, Mary left Greenleaf and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marquette University in 1947. Mary began her lifelong nursing career working with the Red Cross in Madison, then continued her work as a nurse at the VA Hospital in Milwaukee. After many years in Milwaukee, Mary transferred to the VA Hospital in Tampa, where she worked as the RN director of the respiratory unit until her retirement in 1985. Unable to stay away from the career she loved, Mary eventually returned to nursing as an instructor to student nurses at Tampa General Hospital until 1990. Her dedication to nursing along with meticulous instruction paved the way for future generations of nurses who will passionately continue her work.
Mary is survived by her brother Bill Clancy of Greenleaf, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends in Tampa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John, Hugh, and Pat, and two sisters-in-law.
The entire Clancy family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Cuevas and the Nursing Staff at University Community Hospital, Tampa. We also appreciate the extraordinary and compassionate care provided by the staff of Melesh Hospice Home, Temple Terrace. Most of all, we would like to extend our thanks to her wonderful friends Don and Mary Lou for their humor, support and many years of friendship.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 starting at 10:00 AM at St. Clare Parish, Askeaton site, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. Please visit www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Clancy family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mary's name.
Mary was a talented nurse and caring person who was always concerned about the well-being of others. She was strong-willed, yet generous and always on top of the latest family news. We will miss our marathon phone conversations with her, our trips to see her in sunny Tampa, Florida, and sending her flowers so she could show them to the neighbors. Mary truly, she was one of a kind and will be greatly missed all of us.
  • Graduation: She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1943.
