  • Note: Edward M. Hermans, 76, Green Bay resident, entered into the Lord's arms on Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010, after battling a lengthy illness. He was born May 24, 1934, in Green Bay, to the late Mathias and Lorraine (De Bot) Hermans. On Aug. 1, 1953, he married the former Gail Wery at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Duck Creek. Ed worked for Procter and Gamble for 38 years. He was past treasurer and Commodore of the Green Bay Yacht Club and a member of the Bay Sammers, a motor home group, where he served as past-president. Ed built his own sailboat and enjoyed sailing and motor-homing with his family. He enjoyed dancing the polka, jitterbug and waltz. He also enjoyed golfing with his son and his many friends. Ed served in the Army National Guard for eight years.

    Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Gail, Green Bay; his son, Richard (Jean), Oneida; one grandchild, Shawn Berzinsky (fiancee, Stacy Wellner), De Pere; one great-grandchild, Chevalier; his brother, Donald (Muriel), Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
    Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Ivy Wery; and his brothers-in-law, Charles and Vernon Wery.
    Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Parish Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the cortege leaves for church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, corner of Baird St. and University Ave, with Rev. Harry Hafeman officiating. Burial at Fort Howard Memorial Park.     Don graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1949. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve before being called to active duty to serve in the Korean War. On November 3, 1951, Don married his high school sweetheart, Muriel McGuire at Annunciation Catholic Church. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this November. During his teen years, Don worked at the Press-Gazette. He later drove truck for Gustafson Oil, and then became Operations Manager for Koch Industries, retiring after 38 years. Don enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family. One of his proudest accomplishments was the building of a 40 ft. sailboat with his brother, Ed. He always said that his hobby was his wife, Muriel, whom he adored. Don was a caring, giving man who volunteered for St. Vincent dePaul Retail Store for over ten years. He was a faithful Catholic and opened the church doors for 7:15 a.m. Mass for years until his health deteriorated.

    Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel; his children and their spouses, Theresa Teeter and her special friend, D.J. Nolan, Dan (Mary Jo) Hermans, Sue (Dave) Chrisman, Linda (Mark) Joppe, Carol (Dennis) Paul; 13 grandchildren, Erin, Jonathon, Gregory, and Anna Teeter, Lindsay (Phil) Smock, Jenna Hermans, Ian (Jen) Chrisman, Lynnice (Peter) Lee, Andrew, Ellen, and Emily Joppe, Jacob Hooyman, Andrea Paul; four great-grandchildren, Joanna, Evan, Lucia, and Chase.

    He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; brothers-in-law, Donald, Roland, and Jim McGuire; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita and Joe Peters.

    Friends may call Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev.
