  • Note: Mathias "Mad Matt" J. Hecker Jr., 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Prairie Homes. Matt was born on March 21, 1922 in Chicago to Mathias and Anna (Reidl) Hecker. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in England, France, Belgium and Germany. On August 8, 1953 Matt married Shirley Kolb at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menasha. Matt retired from Central Paper after 45 years of service. He enjoyed roller skating, deer hunting, the Packers, EAA, riding his motorcycle, gardening, feeding the birds and ducks and walking through the neighborhood visiting with people. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and those memories will always be cherished. Matt was a member of the Fox Valley Rod and Gun Club, Merrymakers Dance Club, and the Fox Cities Retires.

    Matt is survived by his children; Steve, Linda (Wally) Wadel, Sandy (Bob) Mader, Mike (Kathy) and Chris (Iye), seven grandchildren; Alex, Terra, Todd, Kelly, Michael, Taylor and Mattie, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    Matt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, two brothers; Jerry (Mary) and Norbert (Dory) Hecker, a sister, Marian Hecker, a brother-in-law, Charles Kolb and a sister-in-law, Jane (Merrill) Burmeister.

    The funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 12:00 PM at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH (528 Second St. Menasha) with Fr. Paider officiating. Entombment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Menasha. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18 from 9:30 until the time of the service at the church. The family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to Prairie Homes directors and staff and Heartland Hospice especially Lisa and Nicole, your care and support for Dad was wonderful and words cannot express our gratitude for everything you have done.

  • Note: Charlotte Ann Bolssen, age 89, of Shawano, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Green Bay. She was born on May 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Hamilton and Elizabeth (Mander) Bain. Charlotte was married to William "Bill" Bolssen Sr. and he preceded her in death. Charlotte loved being around people and helping others in need which came in handy working as a realtor for many years. She enjoyed gardening, rummage sales, estate sales and antiquing.

    Charlotte is survived by: her four sons, William Jr., Dennis, Robert and Peter (Chris) Bolssen; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry, Floyd and David Bain; and one sister, Sarah Elertson.

    She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bill; her parents; three brothers, Robert, Hamilton and Claude; and one sister, Carol.

    Memorial services will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with Rev. Scott Ludford. Burial will be in Lawrence Cemetery in DePere. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

  • Note: Carl William Springstroh, age 81, of Kiel and formerly of Appleton died peacefully on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at his home with his wife at his side.

    Carl was born October 13, 1930 son of the late George and Martha (Kuschel) Springstroh in Freedom, Wisconsin. Following his education Carl served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He was united in marriage to Lorna M. Langohr on October 23, 1954 in Bailey's Harbor, Wisconsin. Carl and his wife Lorna resided in the Appleton area most of their lives together, where he was employed with August Winter and Sons as a sheet metal fabricator for 35 years. He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of New Holstein and a former member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Appleton. Carl was also a member of the Grand Chute VFW Post 8642. Carl was an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, hunting and mostly fishing, but was a sports fan as well watching and attending the Packers and Brewers games with his family and friends.

    Carl is lovingly survived by his wife, Lorna of 57 years, their children, Bruce (Carol) Springstroh, Fond du Lac; Steve (Rebecca) Springstroh, Appleton; Alan (Dori) Springstroh, Random Lake; Hugh (Raeline) Springstroh, Kiel; eight grandchildren, Nicole (Andrew) Marek, Aric (Diedra) Springstroh, Cory (Melissa) Springstroh, Karen and Andrew Feld, Heather (Josh) LeMieux, Wesley Collins, Kurt Evenson, and Jill (Chris) Jost, ten great-grandchildren, a Goddaughter, Debra (Joe) Eckes, Milwaukee; and two brothers-in-law, Orville (Dee) Langohr, Cleveland; and Marvin (Ann) Langohr, Bailey's Harbor. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth and Wilma Springstroh and Ellen (Alvin) Passell.

    The funeral service will be held 11 AM on Monday, June 11, 2012 from the funeral home with Pastor Jennifer Kuhnert officiating. Full Military Honors will follow the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Carl's family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 9 AM until the hour of service.
