  • Note: James Robert (Jim) Pahl, 54, De Pere, passed away unexpectedly following a short illness on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI. The son of Vern and the late Janice (Becker) Pahl was born in Green Bay on August 14, 1962. He graduated from East De Pere High School in 1981. He enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in January of 1986. On Sept. 5, 1987 he married the love of his life, Mary Beth Zegers.

    Jim worked in sales at Pahl Quality Windows and Doors, eventually becoming an owner of the company. He was presently employed as an Outside Sales Representative for Bay Industries. He was a long time member of the Brown County Home Builders Association. Jim loved deer hunting and fishing, especially the yearly hunting trips to Montana with his dad and brothers. He was very proud of the eight point buck he shot this year. His greatest loves were his wife and daughter. He was devoted to providing them with the best life possible.

    Jim was very generous with his time and talents. He was the "go-to-guy" for family and friends, as he could fix anything.

    Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary and the joy of their life, daughter, Heather. He is also survived by his parents, Vern and Suzanne (Bressers) Pahl; his brothers, Steve (Cindy) Pahl, Brian Pahl, Tom Pahl, Chris (Michelle)Pahl; his sisters, Sue (Bob) Prall, Sandy Birchfield, Kelley (Chad) Ramos. Jim is further survived by his in-laws; Jim (Mary) Zegers, John (Jean) Zegers, Ann (Joe) Hilke, Don (Terry) Zegers, Joe (Karen) Zegers. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on (TODAY) Friday, December 2, from 4-7pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at the church, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jim at 11:00am Saturday with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating and Rev. Charles Hoffmann concelebrating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, De Pere. COTTER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY is assisting the family.     Elizabeth “Bette” J. Smits, age 85 of Clintonville in the Township of Larrabee, Waupaca County passed away Friday morning February 22, 2013 at the Shawano Medical Center.

    Bette was born on October 17, 1927 in Manitowoc as the daughter of the late Eugene and Helen (Hannon) Kispert. She was united in marriage to Leland “Lee” Smits on April 7, 1950 in Green Bay. During their journey, the couple had mastered the art of knowing how to learn the importance of life, children and family. Bette will always be remembered by her family as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and talented homemaker. She was employed at Guardian Angel Nursing Home in Green Bay for fourteen years. Bette and Lee took several trips out West and to Canada, and during retirement became “snowbirds” in Florida and later “halfbacks” in Tennessee. Some of Bette’s favorite hobbies were reading, working on puzzles, and spending time with all three generations of her children.

    Survivors include: Her husband of 62 years: Leland Smits, Clintonville.
    Her Children: Leanne (James) Olds, Madison.

    Amy (Randy) VanDenHeuvel, Maryville, TN.

  • Note: Leanne Marie (Smits) Olds, age 64, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 11th, 2015 after a brief illness. Leanne was born in Green Bay, WI to Leland and Betty (Kispert) Smits. She graduated from Preble High School in Green Bay and went on to graduate from University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1982. She continued to be part of the UW community until her retirement, where she worked as a media specialist in Molecular Biology. Leanne was an incredibly talented and gifted artist drawn to nature. After her retirement, she continued to illustrate several books about molecular biology. Just prior to her death, Leanne completed her final project, illustrations for the most recent book written by Prof. Sean Carroll, scheduled for publication in spring of 2016. Leanne was a brilliant illustrator and an even better water colorist. Leanne participated in several art exhibitions, events that showcased her amazing creations that were loved by family and friends alike.

    Leanne is survived by her husband of 43 years, James Olds. She had two children, Kristen (Robyn) of Ankeny, IA and Matthew (Heather) Olds of Tacoma, WA. Her two granddaughters, Madison, age 6, and Harper, age 4, brought her incredible joy. She is also survived by her father, Leland, of Clintonville, WI, siblings Gary (Diane) Smits of Clintonville, Amy (Randy) VandenHeuvel, of Maryville, TN, and Patrick (Lisa) Smits of Green Bay, WI. She was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty.

    In lieu of flowers, Leanne would be honored to have her memory live on through donations to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choosing. A memorial service is being planned for spring.
