  • Note: Howard L. Schabo, 90, was called home to Heaven by his Lord and Savior on Jan., 27, 2012, with his family at his side. He was born to Herman and Lanie (Panzenhagen) Schabo on Nov. 8, 1921, in the town of Center. On Jan. 10, 1942, he ws united in marriage to Mildred Willenkamp. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

    Howard briefly served in the Army in 1942, until being honorably discharged to run the family farm. He also worked at Kools and Giddings & Lewis before retiring. Howard served many years as a volunter fireman for the town of Center. He ws a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Center, where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He served the congregation in many capacities over the years. He played softball in his youth and loved to hunt and fish.

    He is surved by his wife, Mildred; daughters, Bev (Don) Wichman, Appleton; Sandy Vaughan, Waupaca; Pat Schabo, Appleton; and dear family friend, Judy Weigman, Appleton; six grandchildren, Mike (Kristy) Wichman, Michelle (Fathy) Majadly, Amy (Jim) Plamann, Angie (Rich) Camps, Holly (Bob) Niemuth, Howie Vaughan; 12 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Kailey, and Ryan, Evan Wichman; Allie and Adam Majadly; Katie and Sam Plamann; Garrett and Maggie Camps; Cameron and Kylie Niemuth; three step-grandchildren, Tammy (Jon) Vander Heyden; Tim and Tom Vaughan; three step-great-grandchildren, Dana and Shayla Vaughan; Kaleb Vander Heyden; one sister, Helen Witt; three sisters-in-law, Bernice and Ethel Schabo and Marian Ashman; and many nieces,nephews, cousins and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Frank Vaughan; his parents; brothers, Harry, Robert and Lester Schabo; brother-in-law, Lloyd Witt; sister-in-law, Gladys Schabo Brum; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harry and Helen, Emro and Erdine, Marvin and Margaret Willenkamp; Irma and Harold Rusch and Eldo Ashman.

    Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, N3505 State Rd., Hwy. 47, Appleton. The Revs. Jeffrey Suhr and Micah Martin will be officiating. Howard's family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established for St. John Lutheran Church and Fox Valley Lutheran High School.

    Dederich, John M.

    John M. Dederich, 63, De Pere, died unexpectedly in Indianapolis, on Saturday night, April 3, 2010, following the NCAA Final Four basketball games.

    The son of the late Clarence and Eunice (Verhagen) Dederich was born in Green Bay, on July 4, 1946.

    John was a decorated war veteran and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966.

    On July 12, 1969, he married the former Karen Mazzara at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

    Mr. Dederich worked at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena for over 40 years, and served as General Manager for many years.

    John enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and NASCAR racing.

    He was a dedicated community volunteer and was involved with many Veterans Groups. He was a member of the Vietnam Vets 224, Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Vets, American Legion, the AmVets, United Patriotic Society, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was very instrumental in the Friends of Brown County Veterans Memorial Project. John is also a member of several local wildlife groups, the UWGB alumni, the Green Bay Shriners and the Vets of Valor and was past member of the De Pere Jaycees.

    Survivors include his wife, Karen, their children, Terry and Renee Dederich (daughter, Lillian), Jim Dederich, Kari and Matt Van Lanen (daughter, Adelaide), four brothers, Roy, Dale (Patricia), Dennis (Sally), Gary Dederich, and one sister, Joy Ninham. He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Family and friends may call at RYAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010. Veterans Honor Guards will stand post at the funeral home throughout the evening. Visitation will continue on Friday morning at First Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Cedar at Tenth Streets, De Pere from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday.
