    Van Hammond, Joseph P.

    Joseph P. Van Hammond, age 85, of Little Chute, died Sunday, July 10, 2004, at Fox River Assisted Living, Town of Grand Chute. He was born September 23, 1919, son of Arnold and Antoinette (Vander Velden) Van Hammond. Joseph married Gladys M. Pomeroy March 2, 1946.

    Mr. Van Hammond was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute. He was employed at Valley Iron Works, Appleton, Thilmany International Paper and Giddings and Lewis as a machinist until his retirement. Mr. Van Hammond was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Joseph was an avid bike rider with his wife, Gladys.

    He is survived by his wife, Gladys, five children: Clifford (Kathy) Van Hammond, Wey-auwega; Janice (Chester) Guyette, Rothschild; Thomas (Connie) Van Hammond, Sheboygan; Karen (Dennis) Kronser, Kimberly; Cheryl (Mich-ael) Scanlan, Kaukauna; ten grandchildren: Jessica and Matthew Van Hammond, Scott and Paul Guyette, John, Jim and Nick Van Hammond, Ken Kronser, Keith and Kris Scanlan, three great-grandchildren: Brea Jorstad, Jenna Van Hammond and Felicity Kronser, brothers and sisters: Fran (Joseph) Gerrits, Kaukauna; Lorraine Daniels, Appleton; Mildred Vander Heiden, Kaukauna; Verna (Tony) Gloudemans, Little Chute; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Ken (Vi) Pomeroy and Jack (Rose) Pomeroy both of Kau-kauna; Ethel Durst, Colombus; Pat (Harlan) Langenberg, Pound; Nancy (Elmer) Arnoldussen, Appleton; Shar-on (Ron) Rose, Appleton; Jean Schmidt and Lois Pom-eroy both of Kaukauna; George Wydeven, Appleton; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene, granddaughter, Sarah Van Hammond, brothers and sisters: Agnes Wydeven, Martin (Alice) Van Hammond, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Wilbert (Kay) Pomeroy Jr., James Pomeroy, Dave Pomeroy, Bonnie Schadrie, Lloyd Vander Heiden.

    Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Beno officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the mass. Military rites will be conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258 following the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church.

    Lorraine C. Daniels, Appleton, age 91, died Thursday December 5, 2013 at the St. Paul Home. She was born on March 2, 1922 in Isaar to the late Arnold and Antoinette (Vander Velden) Van Hammond. Lorraine worked at Simple Simon Bakery for many years and volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul in Appleton.

    In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl De Bruin and Milton Daniels; grandchildren: Shane Clarke and Michael De Bruin; siblings: Annie, John, Martin (Alice), Harriet, John Joseph and Joseph (Gladys) Van Hammond, Agnes (George) Wydeven, Frances (Joseph) Gerrits and Verna (Tony) Gloudemans; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Lloyd Vander Heiden, Le Roy (Ruth) De Bruin, Lola De Bruin, James De Bruin and Rose Ann (Don) Perry.

    Lyle J. Vander Velden, formerly of S. Railroad St., Kimberly, age 74, died Tuesday, February 4, 1986 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 22, 1911, in Kimberly. He was a businessman in the Kimberly areas and worked for the Atlas Mill, Appleton. He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, and a member of the first graduating class of Kimberly High School, in 1928.

    Survivors include three sons and four daughters in-law; Ken and Karin, Kaukauna; Gene and Grace, Kimberly; Jeff and Laurie, Sun Prairie; Bonnie, Columbus; two brothers; Urban Vanden Velden, Shawano Lake; and Elmer Vander Velden, Kimberly; a sister, Mrs. Martha Schwab, Cable; thirteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Estelle Maciejewski, in 1951; his second wife, Dina Runge, in 1980; a son, Gerald; two brothers, Simon, and Clybourne.

    The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Name Catholic Church, with Msgr. Carl Steiner officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the Jansen-Fargo Funeral Home, from 4 to 0 p.m. Wednesday [tonight] and after 12:30 p.m. Thursday until the cortege leaves for the church. A parish prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. this evening. A memorial has been established.

He married Marie NewHouse June 9, 1937 at Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, Cecil.

    Survivors include his wife; Marie; two sons; Jay Vander Velden, Kaukauna; Gary Vander Velden, Valders; five grandchildren; two daughters in-law; Bonnie, Kaukauna; Georgiann, Valders; four brothers; Urban, Shawano; Lyle, Elmer, Cleborn, all of Kimberly; a sister; Martha Schwab, Cable.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 1981 at St. Martin Catholic Church, Cecil, with Father La Liberty officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. at Zastrow Funeral, Cecil, and from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service. There will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. Friday.

  • Note: Martha G. Schwab (nee Vander Velden), of the St. Paul Home, formerly of Kimberly, age 92, died Thursday December 6, 2012. She was born in Kimberly on April 5, 1920 to the late Peter and Hattie (Van Hammond) Vander Velden. Following her 1937 graduation from Kimberly High School, Martha worked as a secretary at Kimberly High School and Kimberly Clark. She served in the U.S. Navy and was proud to have attended the Naval Air Gunners School. After her military service, Martha married Henry Schwab. They both worked for the U.S. Railroad in Milwaukee. When Martha and Henry retired, they moved to Cable, WI. Martha moved back to Kimberly when Henry died in 1983.

    Martha was a lifelong member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly. She loved to bowl and play Bingo and Cribbage with her many friends. Music was important to Martha and she played the piano beautifully. She was a very active member of the William Verhagen American Legion Post 60, Kimberly.

    Martha is survived by her nieces and nephews: Ken, Lee, Jay, Gene, Gary, Wes and Jim Vander Velden, Nancy Seidl, Gayle Hammen and Mary Pat Gloudemans.

    In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by her 5 older brothers: Urban (Alma), Lyle (Estelle and Dina), Cy (Marie), Elmer (Bonnie) and Chub (Margaret) Vander Velden; and nephews and niece: Jerry, Dick, Peter, Jeff and Judy Vander Velden.

    Visitation will be held Monday December 10, 2012 at the ST. PAUL HOME CHAPEL (316 E. 14th St. Kaukauna) beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. Alma lived and worked in Appleton until her retirement when they moved to Shawano Lake. She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, Cecil and the Christian Mothers of St. Martins.

    Survived by two sons and daughters in-law; Richard and Elizabeth Vander Velden, Little Chute; Peter and Debbie Vander Velden, Neehah; eight grandchildren Susan [Gerald] Van Grinsven, Bruce [Sue] Vander Velden, Robert [Pauline] Vander Velden, Ann [Dave] Schuh, Scott Vander Velden, Tara [Richard] Schultz, Samuel and Mackenzie Vander Velden; nine great grandchildren; a sister; Eleanor Stoffregen, Sheboygan Falls.

    Vander Velden, Marie (Newhouse) Marie (Newhouse) Vander Velden, age 92, formerly of Cecil, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Franciscan Care Center in Appleton. Marie was born on December 29, 1913, in Freedom, daughter of Anthony and Anna (Vanden Berg) Newhouse. Marie married Simon "Cy" Vander Velden on June 9, 1937.

    He preceded her in death in June, 1981. They owned and operated Cy & Marie's Tavern in Bonduel for many years.

    Marie was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil and a member of St. Martin Catholic Women's Club. She was a former member of the Cecil Legion Auxiliary and the Cecil Lioness Club. She always enjoyed being able to go bowling.

    She is survived by her son, Jay and his wife Bonnie of Kaukauna; grandson, Mark and his wife Sandy; great-granddaughters, Payton, Carly and Drew; granddaughter, Wende Arnoldussen; and great-granddaughters, Megan and Rachel. She is also survived by her son, Gary and his wife Georgiann of Crivitz; grandsons: Brock, Blaine, Logan and his wife Alee; great-grandsons, Logan and Elijah; granddaughter, Leah (Vander Velden) Thomas and her huband Andrew; a sister-in-law, Martha Vander Velden Schwab of Kaukauna.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Cy; sisters, Hazel Derfus and Elaine (Charles) Vander Zanden; brothers, Merlin Newhouse and Lloyd (Mildred) Newhouse; brothers-in-law: Urban, Lyle, Elmer and Cleborne Vander Velden.

    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil with Deacon Tom Craig officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at St. Martin Church Cemetery in Cecil. Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil is assisting the family.

    Age 86, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 23, 2003. She was born on April 5, 1917, daughter of the late Levi and Lena Welch. On July 27, 1937 she married Martin Van Hammond in Little Chute. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1996. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Alice’s father was an avid Cubs fan and she carried on the tradition. She was a self taught musician and loved to play the organ. Her hobby involved crocheting dolls, afghans and making quilted blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which brought her great joy. Alice also enjoyed her cats Princess and Precious.

    Alice is survived by eight children: Shirley Ann Still of Appleton, Dick (special friend, Mardie Paalman) Van Hammond of Little Chute, Jerry (Linda) Van Hammond of Kaukauna, Jim (Jane) Van Hammond of Kimberly, Joe Van Hammond of Appleton, Arnie (Peg) Van Hammond of Combined Locks, Bunny (Lee) Ellenbecker of Appleton, LuAnn Fenske of Appleton; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Art (Pearl) Koehne of Kaukauna; four sisters-in-law: Frances (Joe) Gerrits of Appleton, Lorraine Daniels of Appleton, Mildred and Lloyd Vander Heiden of Freedom, and Verna (Tony) Gloudemans of Little Chute.

    Alice is preceded in death by her husband Martin, her parents, son Danny Van Hammond; son-in-law, Bob Still; daughter-in-law, Maryann Van Hammond; two brothers: Gorden and Lloyd Welch; and three sisters; twin sister Lucille Vanden Boogart, Dorothy Hacker and Helen Wirth; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Wydeven.

    The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Greenwood Fargo Funeral Home, 500 Hendricks Avenue, Kaukauna, with Sister Francine Goodman officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Kaukauna after the service.

George married Agnes Van Hammond on June 27, 1934. She preceded him in death November 26, 1997. He raised Beagles and was a charter member of the Fox River Beagle Club. He was also a member of the Kaukauna Pigeon Club. George loved country music, played the harmonica and liked to sing. He was always joking and good-natured.

    George is survived by his children: Jack (Carol), Little Chute; Judy (Bill) Asuma, Rhinelander; and Ken, Appleton; grandchildren: Mike (Nancy), Jim (Lisa) and Mark Wydeven, Mary (Randy) Kramer, Greg (Jami) DeValk, Sara (Larry) Bonser and Kristin Willing; great-grandchildren: Kate Kramer, Khristy Kielman, Kevin and Kaitlyn DeValk, Amanda Wydeven, Michael, Kevin and Elise De Bruin, Tyler Willing, Laura Kate and Sam Bonser; and sisters-in-law: Mildred Vander Heiden and Lorraine Daniels. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.

    In addition to his wife Agnes and parents, George was preceded in death by his children: David, Dorothy Mae and Carol Ann; greatgrandson Jack Kramer; siblings: Harriet (Ted) Van Thiel, Kate (Frank) Hermsen, Ann (Al) Jansen, Nell (Porky) Parker, Rose (Ray) Schommer, Marie (Pete) Bootz, Ceil Vander Wyst, Joe (Ann) and Rich (Grace) Wydeven; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Mart (Alice) and Joe (Gladys) Van Hammond, Fran (Joe) Gerrits, Lloyd Vander Heiden, Verna (Tony) Gloudemans, Earl De Bruin, Milt Daniels and Nick Huss.

    Gerrits, Joseph Nicholas "Joe" Joseph Gerrits, 96, Kaukauna, formerly of Little Chute passed away Monday, November 13, 2006, at St. Paul Villa. He was born March 5, 1910, in Hollandtown son of George and Catherine (Van Vonderon) Gerrits. Joseph married Frances M. Van Hammond September 23, 1936, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, where he was also a member. Joseph was employed at the Van Zeeland Chrysler/Plymouth Garage in Little Chute for many years, retiring in 1973. He was an avid bike rider with his wife, Frances and his brother-and sister-in-law Joseph and Gladys Van Hammond.

    Mr. Gerrits is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Donna Durawa, Green Bay; 3 grandchildren: Jaye Marie (Thomas) Mortensen, Brookfield; Andrew (Thea) Durawa, Whitefish Bay; James J. (Ann Brock) Durawa, Portland, Oregon; 5 great grandchildren: Lilia, Ella and Anna Mortensen, Xavier and Amara Durawa; brothers-and sisters-in-law: George Wydeven, Appleton; Lorraine Daniels, Appleton; Mildred Vander Heiden, Kaukauna; Tony Gloudemans, Little Chute; many nieces and nephews.
