    RITES SATURDAY FOR HENRY COENEN

    Henry Coenen, 82, 931 11th Ave., N, died at 11:30 Monday night at his home following a lingering illness. He had been a resident here since 1946 and prior to that farmed in the town of Rudolph for 33 years.

    Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with the Rev. Florian Marmurowicz officiating. Burial is to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

    Mr. Coenen was born at Kaukauna on May 19, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Coenen, and married Christine Janssen at Little Chute on June 14, 1904. Prior to moving to Rudolph in 1913, he had been employed by the Kimberly-Clark Paper Co. at Little Chute for 17 years.

    Surviving are his wife; one son, Arthur, Wisconsin Rapids; six daughters, Mrs. Peter Rathsack, Two Rivers; Mrs. Carl DeMarse, Grand Haven, Mich.; Mrs. Alex Wallock, Stevens Point; Mrs. William Hilgers, Mrs. Vincent Freund and Mrs. Marvin Greening, Wisconsin Rapids; six brothers, John, Martin, August, Theodore, and George, all of Little Chute and William, Two Rivers; one sister, Mrs. George Hermsen, Little Chute, 26 grandchildren, and two great-grand children. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

    Friends may pay their respects at the Taylor Funeral Home from Thursday noon until time of services. Prayers will be said at 7:30 Thursday evening by the Catholic Order of Foresters, of which he was a member, with a general rosary to be said at the same hour Friday evening.

    Blanche E. Timmers, Appleton, age 93, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Fox Valley Assisted Living. Blanche was born on February 11, 1912, in Little Chute, to the late Martin and Jane (Janssen) Van Hoof. She married S.M. Timmers on June 15, 1935, in Little Chute; he preceded her in death on December 29, 2000. Blanche was a charter member of the Christ Child Society, the Lady Elks and a 50-year member of Butte des Morts Country Club. Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Patrick) Pflieger, Sturgeon Bay; her sons, Richard H. (Lea) Timmers, Mewaygo, Michigan; Thomas S. (Virginia) Timmers, Neenah; and Joseph Timmers, Momence, Illinois; her brothers, Frances (Dawn) Van Hoof, Tomahawk; Urban (Ann) Van Hoof, Kaukauna; her sister, Joan (John) Scherer, Darboy; her grandchildren: Ann (Erv) Smejkal, Tim Pflieger (fiancée Wendy Lukes); Julie Pflieger (fiancé Randy Laurin), Jonathon (JoAnn) Pflieger, Steven (Jennifer) Timmers, David (Wanda) Timmers, Susan (Jason) Wood, Trish (Trevor) Chalcraft, Jeffrey (Martha) Timmers, Sara (Peter) Bates and Michael (Stephanie) Timmers; her great grandchildren, Amy, Lisa and Molly Smejkal; Ashley Thompson; Jared, Jacob and Joshua Pflieger; Alexandra, Adam and Gracie Timmers; Brandon Skeel; and John Thomas Timmers.   • Note: Urban J. Van Hoof, Little Chute, age 91, died at his home Tuesday September 24, 2013. He was born in Little Chute on December 6, 1921 to the late Martin and Jane (Jansen) Van Hoof. Urban graduated from St. John Catholic High School in 1940 and was a lifetime member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a 1st Lieutenant in the South Pacific and China theaters and was honorably discharged in June, 1946. Urban married Anne Clark at St. Mary Parish in Belleville, WI on June 13, 1949.

    Urban attended the University of Michigan and Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1948. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Law School. Urban received his law degree and was admitted to the Wisconsin State Bar in 1951. In that same year, he was admitted to practice law in the United States Federal Court Western District of Wisconsin and in 1955 to the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Wisconsin in 1966. Urban was a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and Outagamie County Bar Association. He practiced law in the Village of Little Chute since 1950.

    Urban was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 and the Knights of Columbus Msgr. John J. Sprangers Council 10919 for over 59 years. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his yard. Urban also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with family, close friends and grandchildren.

    Urban is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne; sons: David (Tari) of Appleton; John (Julie) of Appleton; and Michael (Heather), Kaukauna; grandchildren: Ashley (Anthony) Wilhelms, Kelly (Tom) Campbell, Matthew, Taylor, Logan, Paige and Brooke Van Hoof; sister: Joan Scherer; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill (Helen) Clark, Gloria Clark, Dawn Van Hoof and Janet Clark. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents, Urban was preceded in death by his son, Jim; sisters and brothers: Ann (Doc) Goshgarian, Blanche (Tim) Timmers, Gerald (Virginia) Van Hoof and Francis Van Hoof; and brothers-in-law: John Scherer, Jim Clark and Richard Joseph "Dick" Clark.

    Visitation will be held Friday September 27, 2013 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine Street Little Chute) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr.   • Note: Joan C. Scherer, age 84, of Darboy, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 14, 2016. She was born on April 23, 1932, daughter of the late Martin and Jane (Janssen) Van Hoof. Joan graduated from St. John High School in Little Chute, Class of 1950. She then attended St. Agnes School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Joan was a dedicated RN until she started working at her husband's drug store, Look Drug Store in Kaukauna, in 1987.

    Joan married John Scherer on January 30, 1954, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2012.

    Faith was extremely important to Joan, and she was very active in her parish communities. She was involved in Bible studies, Parish Council, and care ministries at both St. Aloysius in Kaukauna and Holy Angels in Darboy. She was also a trustee and a lector at Mass. Joan enjoyed golfing at Fox Valley Golf Club, playing cards in her card club, puzzles, gardening, lunch dates with friends, her YMCA "Silver Sneakers", and camping, especially the annual family outing to Peninsula State Park for their week long tent camping adventure. Most of all, Joan enjoyed time spent with her family. Any time they were gathered together, she was filled with joy.

She also enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing and traveling.

  • Note: John H. Scherer, of Darboy, formerly of Kaukauna, age 84, died Thursday May 24, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Rugby, North Dakota on September 17, 1927 to the late John and Laura (Pfiester) Scherer. The family moved to Combined Locks and John graduated from St. John High School in Little Chute. He then went to the University of Wisconsin - Madison where he graduated from the School of Pharmacy. John married Joan Van Hoof on January 30, 1954 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Together they raised 9 children including 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. John worked as a pharmacist for 40 years and co-owned and operated Look Drug Stores. He was a kind, quiet and gentle man, but an "in charge" kind of guy. He was a definite collector of many things and a Mr. fix it. He felt his "treasures" all had potential. John had almost 60 combined years with the Kau-Chute/Fox Valleyaires barbershop chorus. He also enjoyed belonging to the Argonne Rec Group and Wimpy's Casino Gang. Following retirement, he became very involved with the Grandpa Patrol at Holy Spirit Parish in Darboy. In his lifetime, he raised goats, rabbits, and bees. He enjoyed gardening, (especially onions), golfing with his buddies at Fox Valley, playing cards, fishing, hunting, bowling, the Packers and parish activities. He especially enjoyed the annual family trek to Peninsula State Park for a week of tent camping. Spending time with family and friends was very important to him and he will be greatly missed.
