Biography

  • Birth: Henry A Stichart was born on September 29, 1939 in Beaver, Marinette Co, Wisconsin.
  • Marriage: He was married in 1960.
  • Death: He died on January 14, 2012, at age 72.
  • Note: Henry A. Stichart died expectedly on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. He died after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer with the "troops" at his side.

Henry was born on Sept. 29, 1939, in Beaver, Wis., to the late Walter and Anna (Horbinski) Stichart. He grew up in Marinette. While attending Lourdes High School, he was involved in Badger State Boys and played football. After high school, he attended St. Norbert College on academic and athletic scholarships. He played football and baseball and was the Editor-In-Chief of the school's newspaper.

While in college, he married Edith Jacques, daughter of the late Francis and Eldora (Blom) Jacques. They moved to Peshtigo in 1961, where he taught English, Spanish and Civics for three years. While there, he started the school's Spanish program and was an assistant coach for track and football. In 1964, they moved to Kimberly, where he would teach the remaining 34 years of his career. He taught English for 22 years at J.R. Gerritts Middle School before starting the Spanish program at Kimberly High School. Henry retired in 1998, only to return as a dedicated substitute teacher for the Kimberly Area School District in 2005. He continued subbing through the spring of 2011. Henry also worked summers from 1965 to 2010 at Wickes Lumber (UBC).

His family was the center of his life. He and Edith enjoyed attending their children and grandchildren's numerous school, musical, and sporting events over the years. They sponsored many sports teams for their children and grandchildren in memory of their son, Wally. Each team was named "Wally World". In his free time, he loved to go to rummage and estate sales in search of treasures. Anyone who passed by the "Stichart Ranch" could often see him planting flowers, raking leaves, mowing the lawn, tinkering with his treasures, chatting with passers-by, or relaxing in his chair on the front porch with a Diet Coke while enjoying his favorite tune "Unchained Melody".

Henry never met a person he didn't like. Everywhere he went, he knew at least one person. He took great pleasure in his friendships. He would stop to help a stranger in need any time of the day. His generosity was known by many. A scholarship was established at Kimberly High School in Wally's memory for a deserving graduating senior and he made donations to several charities over the years.

He and Edith were proud members of the Saint Therese Parish choir, where they have been members for over 37 years. Even in his last days with us, he was always good for a laugh with his one-liners. His sense of humor provided much needed comic relief during his illness.

Henry will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Edith (Jacques) Stichart; seven daughters, Maria (Greg) Veeser, Elizabeth (Thomas) Austin, Sarah (David) Gerarden, Jill (David) Rushkofske, Jacqueline (Randy) School, Rachel (Corey) Kolbe, and Emily (Robert) Jones; three sons, Henry "Pat" Stichart (Jamie Smith), Joseph (Kesama) Stichart, and John (Mackensie) Stichart; 24 grandchildren, Dominic Veeser; Dylan Douglas; Audrey and Clare Austin; Amber (Joseph) Germain; Angela (Luke Larsen), Andrea, and Adam Gerarden; Jada and Ben Rushkofske; Elliot and Sophie School; Cameron, Carson, and Annkia Kolbe; Aidan Jones; Austin, Tyler, Jack, and Brady Stichart; and Leacadia, Elijah, and Delia Stichart; a great-grandchild, Autumn Germain; three sisters, Petronella (Bernard) Lesperance, Sylvia Sanford, Ann (Bill) Garrison; a brother, Walter (Bonnie) Stichart; and a brother-in-law, Harold Salzman. In addition, Henry is further survived by his wife's family, Phyllis LeMay, Ann DeJarlais, Jerry O'Connor, Theodore (Vickie) Jacques, Doris (Jim) Grinstiener, John (Sandy) Jacques, Margaret (Howard) Madary, Judy Olson (Jerry). He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Preceding Henry in death were his son, Walter Stichart; granddaughter, Anna Rushkofske; a sister, Amelia Salzman; two infant brothers; brothers-in-law, Francis Jacques, Richard LeMay, George DeJarlais, Ernie Sanford, Rayne Lafave; sister-in-law, Lynn O'Connor; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 213 E. Wisconsin Ave., with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, at the Valley Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday at St. Therese from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

The family wishes to thank John and Sandy Jacques, Pierce Giffey, Bob and Karen Wanek, Mark and Noreen French, his teacher friends from Kimberly High School, and all other family, neighbors and friends who have been so loving and supportive these past months. We couldn't have made it without you. Your visits, phone calls, cards, food, and other support have really meant a great deal to us all.

Papa: Eres mi heroe. Te amo mas que puedo decirte en palabras. Nos vemos en el cielo. Tu hija, Emilia
