  • Note: David W. "Dave" Austin, age 89, Kaukauna, (formerly of Little Chute) passed away Friday January 6, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Little Chute on February 5, 1927 to the late Frank E. and Clara (Lamers) Austin and resided there until 2015.

    He was a 1944 graduate of St. John High School and served in the U. S. Army during W. W. II.

    While attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, he met his life soul mate Edna M. Fuhrman.

    They were married September 25, 1948 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee, raised 11 children and celebrated 52 years of marriage at the time of Edna's passing in 2000.

    David was employed for 40 years in Menasha by John Strange Paper Co., Menasha Corporation and U. S. Paper Mills as Personnel Director, also serving as Safety Manager, Traffic Manager, Converting Manager, Raw Materials Purchasing Agent and Labor Relations Manager. He was also instrumental in the startup of the John Strange Paper employees Credit Union and served as secretary for 18 years.

    David was a lifetime member of St. John Catholic Church, American Legion Post 258 (70 years) and Fox Valley Golf Club.

    He enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

    David is survived by his children and spouses: Sue (Paul) Vanevenhoven, Pat Austin, Jeff (Pat), Mike (Nancy), Ned (Sadie), Tim (Judy), Tom (Betty), and Jim Austin.

    He is further survived by 58 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    David was preceded in death by his wife Edna; sons: Todd, Steve, Jay and Paul; his parents: Frank and Clara Austin; brothers: Frank and Richard Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law: Marie and Jane Austin, Esther and Arlye Long, Alice and James Jolin, Bernadine and George Fuhrman, Arnold Fuhrman; mother and father-in-law: Theresa and Herman Fuhrman; and 2 grandchildren.

    Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine St. Little Chute) from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow. Committal St. John Cemetery.     Karl J. Evers, born March 23, 1922, in Little Chute, WI, died May 5, 2005, at the age of 83 at Baptist Hospital. He served in the Army in the Pacific Theater, in Okinawa, New Guinea, Ryukyus, Leyte, and the Phillipines, as part of the Alamo Scouts 503rd Parachute Infantry, serving from 1942-1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant was a section leader of heavy machine guns, and received several decorations. Prior to WW II he was long center for the Green Bay Packers, a former linesman (referee) for the Knoxville Knights hockey team, he was an avid golfer, bowler, and stamp collector. Graduated from University of Wisconsin with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics, received a Master from the University of Missouri in Journalism. He retired after a 28-year career with the Knoxville News Sentinel in 1985 as chief copy editor. He is preceded in death by his first wife Martha S. Evers in 1991.

    Survived by wife Bettie J. Evers, daughters and son-in-law: Kathleen E. Phillips, Louisa Evers and Rebecca and JW "Hoss" Shipwash grandchildren: Suzanne, Sherrie, and Eugene Phillips, Eric Shipwash great grandchild, Isabella Plymale, sisters and brother-in-law: Barbara Hillcoat, Nangie and John Gorenc, faithful companion Reggie of Badger Woods.

    Age 88, died peacefully after a battle with Alzheimer’s on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Oshkosh Medical and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 18, 1914, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Vander Velden) Evers. She married Jack Lamers on July 30, 1935, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, where she was a lifelong member. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage together until he preceded her in death December 28, 1995. Kate enjoyed bowling, golf and was an avid Packer fan and Chicago Cub fan. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.

    Katherine is survived by her four children: Janice (Ronald) Hietpas, Little Chute; Tom (Debby) Lamers, Little Chute; Jay (Kay) Lamers, Crandon,; Linda (Doug) Hammen, Oshkosh; 16 grandchildren: Keith (Cindy), Mike (Michelle) and Greg Hietpas; Jackie (Rob) Franck, Sara (Paul) Pederson, Beth Tourville, Jill Damrow, Lisa McRae, Scott (Chris) Lamers, Jenny (Mike) VanGrinsven, Trisha (Craig) Quick, Holly Lamers, Shelly (Chris) Petz, Judd Hammen and special friend, Tanya Buege, Carrie (Jeremy) Phillips, Jason Hammen and fiancee Keri Berg; 26 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Doris Vanden Heuvel and Dorothy Lamers; two sisters: Alice (John) Grissmen and Betty Hansen; two step-brothers: Joseph (Betty) Biersteker and John (Geri) Biersteker, many nieces, nephews and friends.

    Katherine was preceded in death by an infant son, James; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Martin and Janet Lamers; two half sisters: Minnie (Ted) Lamers and Martina (John) Evers; two half brothers: Peter (Ann) Evers and Mike (Florence) Evers; three step brothers: Nick (Jane), Maurice and Neal Biersteker; four brothers-in-law: Bob (Margaret), Mark (Audrey) and Tom Lamers, Dick Vanden Heuvel.

    Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2002 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. Thursday until the time of the mass.

    A special thank you to the staff of Alterra Sterling House of Kaukauna and Oshkosh Medical and Rehabilitation Center for their special care and concern.
