Johann Wilhelm Eiting

  • Note: William Eiting, one of the early pioneers of West Holland and also one of the earliest settlers of Wisconsin, died Sunday morning on his old homestead where he had lived since 1847, aged nearly 85 years, He was born in Germany in 1826 and crossing the ocean in '47 came to Hollandtown among the very first settlers of that locality where he has resided ever since on the homestead now occupied by his son Theodore Eiting and where he has lived nearly 65 years. His wife, four daughters and a son survives as follows: Mrs. Henry Schlude, Kaukauna; Mrs. William Brochtrup, Forest Junction; Mrs. Bardena Brinler, Brillion; Mrs. Barney Tiesling of Loyal, Wis.; and Theodore Eiting on the old place one mile west of West Holland on the Kaukauna road.
    The funeral was attended by a large number of the friends and relatives of the deceased as he was a man Highly esteemed by all his acquaintances. The last sad rites took place from St. Francis church Tuesday morning at ten o'clock and were conducted by his pastor the Rev. Vander Elsen with internment at St. Francis Cemetery.

He preceded her in death on June 7, 1957. On June 14, 1960 Betty married Joseph Brooks. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1998. For many years Loretta was the owner and operator of Brooks Bar in Forest Junction. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert. She is survived by her children: Russel (Ruth) Diedrich of Chilton, Barb Lueloff of Sturgeon Bay; a son-in-law: Tom Hoeft of Kewaunee; 9 grandchildren: Sue (Pete) Dramm of Manitowoc, Brian (Sara) Diedrich of Chilton, Chris (Cindy) Diedrich of Marytown, Christine (Richard) Kinjerski of Mishicot, Sandy (Bill) Bosman of Sturgeon Bay, Pat (Sarah) Hoeft of Green Valley, Debbie (Kurt) Koerner of Dale, Mike Lueloff of Aurora, IL, Lisa Lueloff of Sturgeon Bay; 9 great grandchildren; & 2 sisters-in-law: Angie Hein of Chilton, & Marcella Backhaus of St. Nazianz. Loretta was also preceded in death by a daughter: Judith Hoeft; 3 sisters: Mary Meyer, Anna Frewert, Rose Wesling; & 4 brothers: Henry, Frank, Ed, & Joe Backhaus. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday January 15, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert with the Rev. Kenneth Frozena officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Reedsville. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday and on Thursday at the funeral home from 9:30 – 10:30 AM when family prayers will be held.

    Skell, Mary A. Mary A. Skell, 83, of Appleton passed away Monday, January 2, 2006, at Cherry Meadows Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born June 10, 1922, in Forest Junction, the daughter of the late Henry and Mae (Brochtrup) Brooks. She has resided in the Fox Valley all of her life. Mary was employed as a nurse's aid at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1980. She was united in marriage to Paul Skell September 17, 1947, sharing 45 years together before his death in 1992. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Ladies of Sacred Heart. She was an active volunteer and worked at the keen-agers Thrift Shop and distributed communion at Manor Care. Mary served in the Navy Waves during World War II and was stationed at several Navy Hospitals on the east coast. Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, and a wonderful housekeeper. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed the cruise with her daughter Sue. Mary liked helping others and was always willing to help out. Survivors include a daughter Sue DeLain of Milwaukee; a son Robert (Sandy) Skell of Menasha; three grandchildren Chris DeLain of Oak Creek; Tim Skell of S. Beloit; and Jennifer Skell of Gainesville, FL; brothers Adrian Brooks of Asketon, Franklin Brooks of Kaukauna, Henry Brooks of Asketon, Fr. Charles Brooks of Mackville, and Roger "Duke" (Alice) Brooks of Hollandtown; sisters Roseanne (Fred) Ponschock of Appleton, Sister Mary Henry of Kaukauna, Betty (Marvin) Radermaker of Wrightstown, and Janet (Jake) Huber of Stingleville; a brother-in-law John Kemkes of Darboy and a sister-in-law Judi Brooks of Combined Locks. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son Rick Skell; sisters Virginia Brooks and Therese Kemkes; brothers John, Joseph, Richard and Jacob Brooks; sisters-in-law Janelle, Helen, and Betty Brooks. The Mass of resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with Fr. Charles Brooks officiating.   • Note: RoseAnn Ponschock, Appleton, passed on her 88th birthday in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. RoseAnn was born in Forest Junction on June 11, 1925 to the late Henry and Mary (Brochtrup) Brooks. On August 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Fred Ponschock who preceded her in death on February 5, 2013. The couple had enjoyed 66 years together. RoseAnn was a longtime and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton. She was a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart, Sacred Heart Luncheon group, and Funeral Dinner Coordinator and also worked at the Sacred Heart Thrift Store. She worked at R. Sabee Co. for 25 years. RoseAnn was well known for her award-winning pies.

    She is survived by 5 daughters: Mary Therese (Bruce) Epling, Houston, Sharon (Joe) Keyzers, Boulder Junction, Donna Ponschock, Appleton, Joan Ponschock, Appleton, and Debra (Brad) Meyer, Hilbert; a son, Ronald (Kathleen) Ponschock, Appleton, and a son-in-law, James Rathsack, Appleton; 10 grandchildren: Chad (special friend Terra) Ponschock, Seth (Heather) Ponschock, Jody (Mike) Kohlbeck, Adam (Kelli) Keyzers, Melissa Keyzers, Andy Keyzers, Travis (fiancée Ashlie) Rathsack, Spenser (Kelly) Rathsack, and Samantha and Nicholas Meyer; 7 great grandchildren: Aryah, Ellison, Gretchen, Adria, Julia, Hayden, and Christian; 4 brothers: Father Charles Brooks, Roger "Duke" (Alice) Brooks, Henry Brooks, and John (Shirley) Kemkes; 3 sisters: Janet (Jake) Huber, Judy Brooks, and Betty (Marv) Rademacker. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; 7 brothers: Adrian, John, Joseph (Betty), Richard, Wilmer (Helen), Franklin (Janelle) and Jacob (Judy); 4 sisters: Mary Alice (Paul) Skell, Theresa Kemkes, Sister Mary Henry and Virginia Brooks; 4 brothers-in-law: Lester (Rosella), Norman (Beverly), Eddie (Leona), and Dan (Mary) Ponschock; 1 sister-in-law Marie Ponschock.

    A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with Rev. Donald Zuleger officiating and Father Charles Brooks concelebrating. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
