  • Note: Old resident Passed Away - Ferdinand Spiegelberg passed away early Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Metzig, at Zittau.

    As a young man Mr. Spiegelberg came over from Germany and settled on the farm at Richter's Landing, in the Town of Wolf River, where he made his home the greater part of his life. After retiring from active farming he lived for a few years in Oshkosh. His last days were spent with his daughter, Mrs. Metzig. He had reached the age of 82 years. Funeral arrangements had not yet been completed at the time of this writing.

    Cumber, Kenneth Kenneth Cumber, age 82, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, July 8, 2007, having just celebrated his birthday on Friday. Ken was born to Charles and Louise Waulet Cumber on July 6, 1925, in Appleton. He graduated from Appleton High School, but was drafted into the Navy before he could pick up his diploma. He served on the USS Wichita and later became a member of the VFW. Ken had worked for Zwickers Knitting Mill and retired after 35 years of service. He then went to work at Copps Grocery Store at the age of 70 and worked there for 10 years with his grandson Jason.

    Ken is survived by his daughters: Cheryl Cumber, Menasha; Charlene (James) Hopkins, Naperville, IL; two grandchildren: Jason (Staci) Wallace, Chilton, who are also expecting Ken's first great-grandchild in January, and Caitlyn Hopkins, Naperville, IL; his sister Geraldine Van Handel, Kaukauna. Ken is further survived by the love of his life and special friend Eleanor Jaeger and her family: daughter Jacquelyn (Albert) Ploor, granddaughters; Tammie (Jason) Schumacher, and their daughters, Jenna and Alyssa, and Wendy (Jonathan) Lear and their daughter Emily.

    Ken was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lee, his parents, his brother Marlin Cumber and his sister Betty Kowalke.

    Funeral services for Kenneth will be held 11 a.m., July 30, 2007, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service also at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Appleton.

    Van De Hey, Roger Roger L. Van De Hey, age 54, New London, formerly of Little Chute, passed away after a lengthy illness Sunday, March 19, 2006. He was born April 23, 1951, son of Norbert and Margaret (Hietpas) Van De Hey. Roger enjoyed golfing, cribbage, darts and the Packers. He also had a love for the outdoors and animals. Roger is survived by his mother, Margaret (Hietpas) Van De Hey, Appleton; daughter, Melanie (Troy Siebers), Van De Hey, Kaukauna; Robert Van De Hey, New London; stepchildren: Kari Lenz and Jessie Lenz both of New London; step-grandchildren: Cody Lenz and Brayden St. Thomas; two sisters and a brother: Frances (Paul) Kielas, East Troy; Bob (Susan) Van De Hey, New London; Debbie (Kevin) Van De Hey-Cronin, Kaukauna; half-brother, Mark (Anita) Lenegar, Ruskin, FL; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.     Norbert F. VanDeHey 1105 Jefferson St. Little Chute

    Age 71, died at 8:30AM Sunday February 18, 1990 after a lingering illness. He was the son of the late Henry and Bardine (Tiesling) VanDeHey. He was born May 18, 1918 in the town of Holland. He retired in 1980 after 35 years of service as a bookkeeper for Schouten Oil Co. Kaukauna. He was pass secretary for the St. John's Cemetery Association and an usher for many years for St. John's Church. He was an avid cribbage player and Packer fan. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the American Legion Jacob-Coppus Post 258, Knights of Columbis Council 1033 of Kaukauna and a member of the AARP. He was a veteran of World War II.

    He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hietpas) VanDeHey; a daughter, Deborah VanDeHey, Kaukauna; two sons and a daughter in-law; Roger (Elaine) VanDeHey, Little Chute; Robert VanDeHey, New London; two brothers and sisters in-law, Howard and Pat VanDeHey, Kaukauna; Richard and Alice, Winneconne; a sister, Iline Nackers, Appleton; a brother in-law; Raymond and Joan Hietpas, Penzance, England, a sister in-law, Helen VanDeHey, Appleton; 5 grandchildren; Christy and Charlie, Melanie, Robert and Amber; other special relatives; Fran and Paul and Colleen Kielas, East Troy; Jessie and Karrie, Little Chute. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray VanDeHey.

    Van De Hey, Margaret Margaret Van De Hey, 85, Appleton, formerly of Little Chute, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Franciscan Care. She was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Little Chute, daughter of Henry and Rose (Weyenberg) Hietpas. Margaret married Norbert F. Van De Hey June 27, 1946, and he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1990. Mrs. Van De Hey was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, and the Jacob Coppus Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed at Tiesling's Bridal Salon, Appleton and Green Bay, for many years. Margaret's grandchildren were her pride and joy.

    Margaret is survived by her children, Bob (Susan) Van De Hey, New London; Debbie (Cronin) Van De Hey, Kaukauna; Fran (Paul) Kielas, East Troy; half-brother, Mark Lenegar, Ruskin, Fla; 13 grandchildren, Melanie, Jessie, Kari, Bob, B.J., Colleen, Amber Lee, Amber Bethany, Britney, Lana, Kristi, Charlie, Liz; 14 great-grandchildren; twin brother, Raymond Hietpas, Penzance, England; sister-in-law, Patricia Van De Hey, Kaukauna; brother-in-law, Richard (Alice) Van De Hey, Winneconne; other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Roger Van De Hey and Steven Lenegar; daughter-in-law, Anita Lenegar; sisters-in-law, Joan Hietpas and Iline (Joe) Nackers; brothers-in-law, Ray (Helen), Howard Van De Hey.

    Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, with Fr. David Funk O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the church from 3 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the mass.
