    It is not our choice of where or when. We know someday we'll meet again. God chose this time for us to part. Forever you'll be with us in our hearts.

    Elsie (Foster) Engel, age 94, of Appleton, was born to eternal life on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Elsie was born April 13, 1912, in Marion, WI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine ( Vanden Bloemen) Foster and has resided in the Fox Cities for most of her life. She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Engel on September 4, 1933, sharing nearly 58 years together before his death on September 9, 1991. Elsie loved to sing and enjoyed belonging to several area singing groups over the years including: Sacred Heart, St. Mary's, and St. Bernard Church choirs, Chaminade Chorus, Elks Ladies Chorus, and the Xavier Parents Teachers Chorus. She also was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. Elsie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, a devout Christian who prayed the rosary and listened to Mass everyday.

    Survivors include her children and grandchildren: Darlene (George) Ebbens of Appleton and her children: Cyndee Cornelius; Laurie Hopkins — Molly and Tyler Hopkins, and Mattie Zettel; Jeanine Dorow; Dan Dorow; Dawn Weir — Mallory and Karley; Chris (Amy) Dorow — Zachery, Joshua, Ashley, and Kaleb; Tom Dorow; Scott (Lisa) Dorow — Travis Seehawer and Hunter Dorow; Quinten Netteshiem (special friend Karla); Steve (Jolene) Wochenske and Joy (Derek) Lewis — Owen.     In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by a daughter Diane Beschta, granddaughter Darla Dorow, grandson Joey Engel, three brothers: Earl and Harry Foster and Sylvester Jansen; three sisters: Veronica Kloes, Joan Gresenz, and Lucille Verstegen.

    The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday August 3rd at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and then directly at the church at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service. The parish wake service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

    Darlene (Engel) Ebbens, age 79, of Appleton, was granted eternal life on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. Darlene was born March 21, 1934, in Aurora, Illinois, daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie (Foster) Engel. She resided in the Fox Cities for most of her life.

    Darlene is best remembered as a devoted mother of 12, grandmother of 15, great grandmother of 2 and lover of all babies and children.

    While Darlene spent the majority of her years caring for and raising her children and grandchildren, she also had a career at ThedaCare in Appleton as a courier later in her life. Darlene loved music and theater. She could always be found singing, humming, and encouraging her children to study and love music as well.

    Darlene's survivors include her 11 children, 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 5 siblings: Cyndee Cornelius (fiancé Pete Sward); Laurie Hopkins, and her children Molly (Brian) Bons - great granddaughter MacKenzie, Tyler (Ashley) Hopkins, and Madeline Zettel; Jeanine Dorow; Dan Dorow; Dawn Weir, and her children Mallory Georg (Stephen), Karley; Chris (Amy) Dorow of Highlands Ranch, CO, and their children Zachary (Kate and great grandson Kale), Joshua, Ashley, and Caleb; Tom Dorow; Scott Dorow, and his son Hunter; Quinten Netteshiem (Karla Bockholt) of Delavan, WI; Steven (Jolene) Wochenske of Oregon, WI, and their children Aurelia, Maddox; Joy (Darek) Lewis of Glenview, IL, and their children Owen, Cameron, Aaron. She is also survived by her siblings: James Engel (special friend Nancy), Cliff (Patsy) Engel, Jerry (Shari) Engel, and Joene "Susie" (Randy) Lauerman as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Darlene is preceded in death by her daughter Darla Jo Dorow, husband George Ebbens, first husband George (Duke) Dorow, sister, Diane Beschta and parents, Joseph Engel and Elsie (Foster) Engel.

    A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel with Deacon Maury Reed officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Darlene's name for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (www.pdf.org).
