    was one of 12 children, she died on March 31, 1933.She was about 5-ft. 5 or
    6-in. tall and weighed about 160. Because she was a very warm friendly person.
    her home was a refuge for the West children whenever there was to be another
    baby in the West family. She would always pick up the little ones and hug
    them. On the farm durning threshing time she would show off her skills in
    the kitchen, she did an excellant job of feeding the large threshing crew
    a great meal.

Irene was born in Appleton on January 24, 1939, daughter of the late Clarence and Marie (Vanden Boogard) Kohl. She attended St. Therese grade school, Roosevelt Junior High, and graduated from Appleton West. On September 13, 1958, she married Gene Lamers at St. Therese; he survives.

    For many years, Irene worked at the Kimberly High School. She loved shopping, craft sales, playing cards, visiting the casino once in a while, and travelling.

    Irene is survived by her husband: Gene “Orangie” Lamers of Appleton; three children: Laurie Lamers, Mike (Cheryl Buelow) Lamers, and Lynn (Rocky) Wildenberg, all of Appleton; a granddaughter: Stephanie Lamers and her son Mason; seven brothers and sisters: Jerry (Linda) Kohl of Appleton, Bill (Rosie) Kohl of Appleton, Bob (Sue) Kohl of Appleton, Ethel Walbrun of Appleton, Patti (Patrick) Duffy of Milwaukee, Mark Kohl of Appleton, and Kurt (Debbie) Kohl of Appleton. She is further survived by Gene’s siblings: Jim (Ginny) Lamers of Virginia, Mary DuFrane of Kimberly, Carol Daul of Appleton, and Jerry (JoAnn) Lamers of Little Chute; and a sister-in-law: Denise Lamers of Kansas.

    Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Gene’s parents: Clarence and Irene Lamers, a brother Allan, a sister Janice, and brothers-in-law Roger Walbrun, Denny DuFrane, and Tom Lamers.

    The funeral liturgy for Irene will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.

  • Note: Dennis DuFrane, age 70, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 29, 1942 in Kimberly, the son of the late Levi and Mary (Sonnleitner) DuFrane. On August 18, 1962, Dennis married the love of his life, Mary Lamers at St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks. Dewey was employed at Giddings & Lewis for 24 years, and then semi-retired from Kimberly Clark after 24 years of service. He belonged to the IAM Union and was a Union Representative. Dennis enjoyed all outdoor sports, going up north to his second home in Townsend, and gardening. He loved deer hunting with his buddies, gaming with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren. Many will remember Dennis with his quick wit and great sense of humor.

    Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary DuFrane; sons: Pat (Cindy Hoffman) DuFrane; Brian (Ruth) DuFrane; and Mark (Karen) DuFrane; grandchildren: Heather (Ryan) Siebers and Holly Hoffman; Erik (Trisha) DuFrane, Matt (Caroline) DuFrane, Emilo Lopez, Isamar (Richard) Galvan, and Azucena Lopez; Kelsey (Tony Geenen) DuFrane, Levi DuFrane and Sophie DuFrane; great grandchildren: Jordy and Hunter Siebers; Alexis and Kalli Hoffman; and Nathan Lopez; sisters and brothers: Janice (Gordy) Huolihan; Dave (Yvonne) DuFrane; Roger (Barb) DuFrane; and Sandy (Russ) Hoppe; and sister-in-law: Inez DuFrane. He was known as "Uncle Denny" to many nieces and nephews. Dennis is further survived by a special family friend, Patti DuFrane, other relatives, including Mary's family, and many friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda DuFrane; his brother, Tom DuFrane; and grandchildren, Kyle DuFrane, Cole DuFrane, and Lydia DuFrane.

    The funeral liturgy for Dennis will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna. Fr. Tom Pomeroy will be officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.     Thomas was born Dec. 10, 1948, in Appleton, Wis., the son of Clarence and Irene (Apple) Lamers.

    Thomas graduated from High School and joined the United States Air Force on Sept. 10, 1968 and retired on Sept. 30, 1992, as a Master Sergeant.

    He married Denise Elizabeth Bendle on Feb. 27, 1971, in Enborne, England.

    After his retirement from the United States Air Force, Thomas worked for Heatron Manufacturing in the production department.

    Thomas enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was a huge sports fan and always rooting for the Chiefs, Royals, and Kansas University Basketball. He was known as Elf to his grandkids and liked to play Mr. Fix It, and was always inviting family over for just a minute to dig into a project that normally took much longer. He enjoyed sitting in the backyard and watching the birds around the bird houses. He loved gardening and maintaining his yard. He was a member of the Eagles, and the Little Bar Clan.

    He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Sarah J. McFadden and her husband, James "Kirk", Atchinson, Kan.; Shelley A. Berkebile and her husband, Steven, Leavenworth; four grandchildren, Annika and Miranda Jones, Ryanna Berkebile, and Christopher McFadden; two sisters, Mary Dufrane, Little Chute, Wis.; and Carol Daul and her husband, Thomas, Appleton, Wis.; three brothers, Eugene Lamers and his wife, Irene, Combined Locks, Wis.; Jim Lamers and his wife, Jinny, Middletown, Md.; and Jerry Lamers and his wife, JoAnn, Little Chute, Wis.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Dennis Dufrane.

    Memorials in his name may be directed to St. Lukes Hospital on the Plaza, and Cushing Hospital, Leavenworth, Kan.

  • Note: Ann C. (Spierings) Opsteen, age 93, passed away on January 13, 2016 in her home with family at her side. She was born April 8, 1922, to the late John and Jacoba (Marijnissen) Spierings in Combined Locks where she lived her entire life. Her parents emigrated from the Netherlands and she learned to read and write Dutch. She was always near the top of her class and graduated from Kimberly High School in 1940. Ann had a strong passion for learning all her life.

    Ann married John on January 12, 1946, after he returned from WWII. Together they raised their eight children. In her "free" time she worked in her garden and played horseshoes at Kamps Kovered Kourts. She pitched horseshoes in many tournaments throughout the state and won many trophies. She was the first woman inducted into the Wisconsin Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 1983. Ann taught Religious Education at St. Paul Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member. She joined the Mission Sewing Club around 1968 and remained active until recently. She served 10 years in the 70s and 80s on the Combined Locks Planning Committee.

    Family gatherings with her children and sons- and daughters-in-law and their families were occasions for food, fun and laughter. Ann's curiosity of nature (especially insects) was shared with not only her children but the whole neighborhood. Her most important legacies are her successful 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren in whom she took great pride.

    Ann is survived by her children,

    •Robert with his family: son Ronald (Debra) with daughter Rebecca; daughter Jean (Paul) Krueger with sons Ethan and Elliot; and son John (Nicole) with daughter Mazzy and son Cole;

    •Barbara (David) Schreiber with their family: daughters Jennifer and Megan (Adam) Danczyk;

    •Thomas (Luella) with their family: daughter Tara (Jon) Van Dyke with daughter Emmaline; and son Aaron (Karmen) with sons Isaac and Isaiah;

    •James (Joan) with their family: daughters Amanda (Andrew) Lagatta; and Emily (fiancé David); son Steven (Andrea) with son Gannan;

    •Dave (Nancy) with their family: son Matt; and daughter Sara (Scott) Siegesmund with daughter Alexandra;

    •Mary (Greg) Fabisiak with their family: sons Alex (special friend Cara) and Tim;

    •Patricia (Donn) McGowan with their daughter Carly (fiancé Alex).

    She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her parents Ann was preceded in death by husband John, sister Marianne (Bee) Berben, oldest son Michael, and daughter-in-law Susan (Robert).

    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016, at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Affinity Clinic in Little Chute, especially Dr. Jack Meyer and St. Paul Elder Services and Hospice.     Mrs. Joseph Jansen, 72, 709 Madison St., Llittle Chute, died unexpectedly at 3:30 Sunday afternoon while visiting her sister, Mrs. Ann Van Gomple, Little Chute, who is a patient at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born in De Pere January 13, 1875, and has been a resident of Little Chute for 46 years.

    Besides her sister, Mrs. Van Gomple, she is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Albert P. Hietpas, Kimberly and Mildred, Little chute; two sons, Norbert and Elmer, Little Chute; and four grandchildren and a great grandchild.

    Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. John's Catholic Church, Little Chute with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John J. Sprangers, pastor, in charge and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 7 o'clock tonight at the Verkuilen Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 8:15 tonight and Tuesday evening.
