  • Note: Rita Van Straten, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10th, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital. Rita was born on October 24th, 1923 in De Pere, to the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Gerrits) Hendricks. She was the fourth of seven children. At the age of 21, she married Roland Bullion. While Rita was pregnant with her first born, Linda, Roland was killed in action during World War II, in 1945. On Tuesday, June 10th, 1947, Rita married Lawrence "Van" Van Straten. Her mother said they couldn't marry on Monday because it was wash day. He raised Linda as his own and they continued to have four more children. They just celebrated 68 happy years of marriage.

    Rita worked at Sheffords Cheese in Green Bay during World War II and continued to meet with those friends for lunch for many years after. Her life revolved around her family. As a homemaker, Rita always had a homemade meal and dessert ready. Her family traditionally celebrated Christmas Eve together with games and white elephant prizes. Visitors were always welcomed with a big smile. Rita and Van liked to travel. Their trips included Vegas, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, and numerous casinos. She also liked to volunteer at the De Pere Christian Outreach. Some other things that Rita enjoyed in her life were bowling, rhubarb jam, and Kroll's hamburgers.

    Survivors include her husband, Van, her children: Linda Metzler (special friend Tom Knaus); Bruce (Mary "George") Van Straten, Faye (Steve) Rose, Lisa (Ken) Waller, Julie (Chris) Paulsen, grandchildren: Kim (Mike) Server, Kevin (Dawn) Metzler, Jamie (Dileny) Metzler, Alexa and Makenna Waller, Devon and Danielle Paulsen; four great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren; brothers and sister: Mark Hendricks, Leo (Kathy) Hendricks, Betty Drewiske (special friend Paul Heney); many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her first husband, Roland, she was preceded in death by her sibilings and spouses: Florence and Bud Cullen, Carl "Jeff" and Angie Hendricks, Ruth Hendricks, Frank and Carole Hendricks, Roger Drewiske; niece, Jackie Cullen; in-laws: Ed and Emma Van Straten, Verna Mandli, Don Van Straten, Adrian Manders, Sr. Loyola Van Straten, Eunice Van Straten.

    Friends and family may visit St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Road, Ledgeview, on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The Funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev.     On Thursday, March 17, 2016, Lawrence "Van" Van Straten decided it was time to "get off the bus." He passed peacefully while at Artisan Assisted Living in De Pere.

    Van was born on March 11, 1923 to the late Ed and Emma (Hazeart) Van Straten, and he had just celebrated his 93rd birthday. Van proudly served in the Army during World War II.

    On June 10, 1947, he married Rita Hendricks Bullion. After 68 happy years of marriage, she preceded him in death on July 10, 2015.

    Van worked at several machine shops in the course of his career, retiring from Paper Converting in 1997. He went on to drive cars for Broadway Automotive. A job he truly enjoyed, and at which he made many friends.

    Van and Rita liked to travel. Their trips included Las Vegas, Florida, Mexico, Hawaii and numerous bus trips with friends to area casinos. We never knew if he came out ahead or behind on those trips!

    Dad had a fondness for sweets. Ford's graham cracker cake was a perennial favorite. He also enjoyed a good "Old Fashioned." He was an avid Packers fan and held season tickets for many years. Van loved to talk about the Packers to anyone. He also liked to golf and bowl, and did so for many years. Dad's favorite nice weather activity was sitting on the bench on his porch waiting for a neighbor to come and chat.

    Survivors include his children; Linda Metzler (special friend Tom Knaus), Bruce (Mary "George") Van Straten, Faye (Steve) Rose, Lisa (Ken) Waller, Julie (Chris) Paulsen. Grandchildren; Kim (Mike) Server, Kevin (Dawn) Metzler, Jamie (Dileny) Metzler, Alexa and Makenna Waller, Devon and Danielle Paulsen; four great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mark Hendricks, Leo (Kathy) Hendricks, Betty Drewiske (special friend, Paul Heney); many nieces and nephews.

    In addition to Rita, Van was preceded in death by his brother Don Van Straten and sisters Verna (Adrian Manders) Mandli, Sr. Loyola Van Straten and Eunice Van Straten; in-laws, Florence (Bud) Cullen, Carl "Jeff" (Angie) Hendricks, Ruth Hendricks, Frank (Carole) Hendricks, Roger Drewiske; niece, Jackie Cullen.

  • Note: Carl T. "Jeff" Hendricks, 92, Green Bay, passed away Thursday morning, May 3, 2012. He was born September 20, 1919 in De Pere to the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Gerrits) Hendricks. He graduated from St. Mary Catholic Grade School and in 1938 from East De Pere High School. He was a very good basketball player in high school and during his time in the service. Jeff served his country during World War II from 1940-1945 in the U.S. Army. He served in the 32nd Red Arrow Division, Battery B, and saw action in New Guinea, Pacific Theatre.

    On July 30, 1949 he married Angeline L. Fels in De Pere. For many years he worked at Broadway Chevrolet in De Pere and Ashwaubenon as the Service and Body Shop Manager. Jeff began the local Property Damage Appraisers franchise, retiring in 1982 but continued to still work for PDA part time for many more years.

    Jeff was an avid bowler for more than 75 years, and also enjoyed golf and horseshoes. His most treasured time was spent with his family and friends. His most recent memorable trip was one he took with his two brothers last August (2011) on the WWII Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

    Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Angie, who now resides at Woodside Community in Ashwaubenon; three sons, Randall J. (Rebecca); Daniel E. (Dianne); Paul H. (Lorrie); grandchildren, Allicia (Craig) Woodhouse, Rose (Ty Mack) Hendricks, Aaron (Amy) Hendricks; Jaye (Brian) Glowacki, Carla (Kris) Shaw; great-grandchildren, Devan, Stella, Mason, Elsa and Cason. Brothers and sisters, Mark, Rita (Lawrence) Van Straten; Leo (Cathy); Francis (Carol), Betty Drewiske; many other relatives and friends.

    He is preceded in death by sister, Florence; sister-in-law, Ruth Hendricks and brothers-in-law, W.P. Cullen, Roger Drewiske.

  • Note: Francis H. (Frank) Hendricks, 83, De Pere, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Gerrits) Hendricks was born July 22, 1929 in De Pere.

    Frank married the former Carole VerDoot on August 30, 1952 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Green Bay. He was a dedicated employee of Milprint in De Pere, before retiring after 44 years of service. Frank and Carole owned and operated Hendricks Drapery Service for over 35 years.

    He was a lifelong member of St Mary Parish in Ledgeview. Many family memories were made at Legend Lake where Frank enjoyed much of his retirement. He enjoyed bird watching and was very talented at woodworking, making many family heirlooms. He was also an avid Packer fan.

    Frank is survived by his wife, Carole; children: Michael (Cindy) Hendricks, Houghton, MI; David Hendricks, De Pere; Stephen (Jill) Hendricks, De Pere; Jim (Lori) Hendricks, Waterford; Heidi Hendricks and her special friend, Matt Ness, Green Bay; grandchildren: Nicholas, Jonathan, Emily, Shauna, Christopher (Elissa), Curt (Brittany), Eric (Kaela), Matthew, and Melissa; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Lydia, and Parker; brothers: Mark Hendricks, De Pere; Leo (Kate) Hendricks, Madison; sisters; Rita (Lawrence) Van Straten, De Pere, Betty Drewiske, De Pere; as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Frank was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Danielle; sister, Florence (Bud) Cullen; brother, Carl "Jeff" (Angie) Hendricks; brothers-in-law, Roger Drewiske and Milton VerDoot; sisters-in-law, Ruth Hendricks, JoAnn VerDoot, and Jacquline Verheyden; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Laura VerDoot.
