    Hermsen, Eugene J.
Eugene J. Hermsen passed away at the age of 80, in his home in Yuma, Ariz., on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.
He was born July 24, 1927. Eugene served our country during World War II in both the Merchant Marines and the Army.
After his discharge, Gene married Bernice Clara Lemmen on Jan. 24, 1948. They settled in Green Bay, Wis., and Gene worked at Fort Howard Paper Company for 39 years, retiring in 1987.
He was very proud to have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just a few days before his passing. Eugene's life was driven by a passion for travel. His time in the military gave him "rambling feet" and road trips became the family's favorite vacations.
In 1985, Gene and Bernice sold their house, bought a motor home, and set out to live a life of travel. Their travels took them to all 50 states and 13 different countries. Gene touched the lives of many friends along the way. Gene and Bernice eventually settled down in Yuma, Ariz., for the winters and spent the summers in Wisconsin with their family.
