Harland Green, 34, 10653 Vanden Bosch Road, Kaukauna, was killed instantly by a single shot from a 20-gauge shotgun. A warrant charging first-degree murder has been issued for Clarence Holland, 65 of rural Brownwood. They said the warrant would be served when Holland is released from the hospital. According to the Brown County deputies, Green and his present wife, Shirley, arrived at his former father-in-law's house about eight miles north of here about 11 A.M. to pick up the four children for the summer. An extended argument apparently ensued and Green was shot once in the chest from a distance of 8-10 feet. Sheriff's deputies found him slumped in a dining room chair about 3 P.M. They aid the shooting apparently occurred between 2 and 2:30 P.M. Holland reported the shooting himself, deputies said. They said that neither Green's former wife nor his children were in the house at the time of the shooting. Brownwood is located about 100 miles south of Abilene in west-central Texas. Green was divorced from his first wife in October 1977, and she moved back to Texas about two years ago. He reportedly told friends before he left that he thought he might have difficulty in picking up the children for visitation. Biography

  • Birth: Raymond VanStralen was born on August 30, 1930 in Kimberly, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: He died on July 28, 2016, at age 85, in Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa, California.
  • Note: Van Stralen, Ray

A special man has passed over to start a new journey. Ray was a loving and appreciative husband to Betty (Kerkhof) for almost 60 years, and the most wonderful father to Diane, Donna, Mary and her husband Nouri, Alan and his wife Reema, and Dan and his wife Jennifer, all residing in Northern California, plus the many who adopted him as their dad and grandpa also! He was fortunate to have seven adoring grandchildren, Matthew, Anissa, Kira, Olivia, Max, Eva, and John. He only missed seeing his first great grandson by a few months. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim and Ken (Margie), and three sisters, Marilyn Huth, Joyce (Jim) Ebben and Gloria (Jack) Willimason and brothers-in-law Roman Meier and Herman Ciha. He was preceded in death by his sisters Alice Meier, Rita Ciha, and baby Mary, his sister-in-law Marion, as well as his parents Albert and Marie (Van Elzen) Van Stralen and his in-laws George and Anna (Ebben) Kerkhof. His grandson Max greeted him also.

He was born in Kimberly, Wisconsin on August 30, 1930 and passed away at the age of 85 on July 28, 2016 in Pleasant Hill, CA where he and Betty have lived since 1994. He spent 39 years as a sheet-metal tradesman at the former paper mill in Kimberly where he retired in 1988.

One of his fondest early memories was the camaraderie with his fellow soldiers while in the army in Germany during the Korean War.

He was an avid Packers fan and had season tickets until he moved to California, although that didn't keep him from continuing to root for his favorite team!

Modeling became a retirement hobby while in Wisconsin and he continued having fun with it for many years in California as well. The highlight was his role in the 'N Sync video "This I Promise You".

After moving to California he spent many years volunteering for the organization "Caring Hands" by helping other seniors with chores and errands that they were not able to do. He was often teased about all of the women in his life!

He will be greatly missed. We slowly lost the person that we knew and loved, but his thoughtful and generous spirit never waned. Everybody loved Raymond!

  • Note: Ebben, Gerald H.

After months of saying our good-byes to him, Gerald "Gerry" Ebben, age 91, of Greenville, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with the Lord by his side after a long battle with Alzheimers disease on Thursday, January 5, 2017. Gerry was born on July 4, 1925 in Little Chute, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Hietpas) Ebben. He attended St. John School in Little Chute through 8th grade and then left school to run the family farm. At the age of 19, he served in the Army as part of the Army Paratroops 674th Field Artillery. Gerry was sent to Japan at the end of WWII. Gerry worked at the Canning Factory when he returned from Japan and then at Thilmanys. On January 9, 1947 he met the love of his life and his wife of 67 years, Ethel Feldkamp at the Nightingale, where they loved to dance. They were married at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown on June 23, 1949. They lived in Wrightstown until they bought a farm and moved to Greenville in 1951, where they raised their 11 children. Gerry was a devout member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Greenville. He loved the Lord to the very end and prayed the rosary on a daily basis. Gerry loved farming and even after retirement helped his son-in-law in the fields any chance he could. However, he always honored the Lord's day and didn't work the fields on Sunday, and the Lord always provided for him and his family. Gerry was a member of the Greenville Civic Club, the Greenville Fire Department, the Knights of Columbus and also served on the Board of Directors for Greenville Co-op. In 2007, he was Greenville Citizen of the Year. He was a faithful blood donor for many years, until the age of 80. Dad (Gerry) could fix anything and was a whiz at math, especially when it came to counting points in Sheepshead. He loved to have a good time and was known for turning out the lights at the family weddings. Gerry loved a good card game, good music, dancing and gardening with his wife. His foot would be tapping to a good polka right to the end. He always loved babies and little children. Gerry and his wife loved to travel. They visited all 50 states, took several cruises and also took a trip to Europe and they enjoyed a hot air balloon ride.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife Ethel; eleven children, six daughters and five sons; Jean (Darrell) Deering, Richard (Jean) Ebben, Denis Ebben, Donna Ebben, Cathy (Steve) Jack, Jim (JoAnn) Ebben, Jan (Nelson) Sanders, Bob (Sally) Ebben, Ted Ebben, Barb (Tim) Hanson and Bonnie (Troy) Sommerfeld; 25 grandchildren, Chelsea Deering, Mike Ebben, Stephani Barnes, Amy Miller, Tony Ebben, Sister M.
