    Gerhard J. Ebben, 62, 1126 Harrison St., Kaukauna, died at 7:30 this morning in Kaukauna. He was born July 7, 1896, in the Town of Kaukauna and has been an employee of the Kaukauna Street Department for the last five years. Before that time, he was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railway.

    Funeral services will be at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna and at 9:30 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. this evening and Friday evening. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight.

    Survivors include three brothers, John, Ray, and Aloysius, all of Rt. 2, Kaukauna; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Petermichel, Kaukauna.

    John A. Ebben, 60, route 2, Kaukauna, died at his home at 12:30 AM today after a short illness. He was born on June 18, 1899, on the farm in the town of Kaukauna where he lived all his life.

    Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, April 5, 1960 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, with burial at the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral home, Kaukauna, after 2 PM Sunday.

    Survivors include the widow; one daughter, Mrs. James Otte, route 3, Kaukauna; two sons, Edmond and William, both of route 2, Kaukauna; two brothers, Ray and Aloisius, both of route 2, Kaukauna; one sister, Mrs. Mary Petermichel, Kaukauna; and nine grandchildren.

    Mrs. John Ebben (Alegunda Verhasselt) St. Paul Home, Kaukauna age 96, died at 7 AM February 12, 1994 after a short illness. She was born June 5, 1897 in Phlox. She was a loving mother, grandmother, greata grandmother and a great great grandmother. She enjoyed bakin cookiesm canning, sewing and spending time with her family. She married John Ebben on January 28, 1928. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kaukauna, and the Freedom Christian Mothers.

    Survivors include a daughter, Frances and James Otte, Kaukauna; a son, William and Jo Ann Ebben, Kaukauna; a daughter in-law, Anna Ebben; two sisters in-law, Alice Verhasselt and Irene Ebben; a special friend and roommate, Ordelia Otte; many nieces and nephews; grandchileren; Gene Otte, George and Cindy Otte, Betty and Jim Boucher, Mary Jane and Deward Knutson, Rick Ebben, Audrey and Mike Wright, Harvey Ebben, Steye and Carrie Ebben, Marilyn and Gil Lands, Ken and Doreen Ebben, Lori and Jeff Vanden Heuvel, Amy and Mike Pauls, Carrie and Mike DeCoster, Tim and Julie Ebben; 30 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, John A, Ebben, in 1960; her parents, Wilhelmina andWilliam Werhasselt;ason, Edmondin 1980; two granddaughters, Cindy Otte and Barbara Jo Ebben; a sister, Dora Green; three brothers, Frank, John and Herman; a falf brother, Joe Verhasselt; four half sisters, Minnie Domberinska, Frances Waldvogel, Nellie Herlache and Johanna Fitsch; a stepbrother, John Van Boxtel; three stepsisters, Dina Van Boxtel, Mary Thomas and Palonia De Broux.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday February 15, 1994 from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with Rev. Ron Lhotte officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home, Little Chute, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, and from 9 AM Tuesday until the time of the services. There will be a prayer service at 7 PM Monday. A special thanks to St. Paul's Home and staff for their loving care of our mother and also to Father Ron Lhotte and Father Koehne.

  • Note: Frances T. Otte, Kaukauna, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Brillion West Haven Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised on her family's farm near Freedom on October 28, 1928 to the late John and Alegunda (Verhasselt) Ebben and attended school in Freedom until the 8th grade.

    Frances met her husband at the Nitingale Ballroom. They were united in marriage on August 28, 1951 St. Nicholas Catholic Church. They spent the next 57 wonderful years together before James passed away. After their marriage they purchased a farm near Kaukauna and they joined St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Mary's Site where Frances was still a member.

    Frances was a very hard working person and never complained. For over 50 years she was her husband's partner on their family farm. There she raised her children along with milking cows, helping with the fieldwork, housekeeping, gardening, and cooking and baking for her family. Her biggest joy in her later years was spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

    Frances is survived by her children: Eugene, Kaukauna and good friend, Debbie Forester, Little chute; Mary Jane (Edwin) Knutson, Reedsville; Betty (James) Boucher, Black Creek; George (Cindy Burmeister) Otte, Reedsville; six grandchildren: Bob (Jodi) Boucher; Brenda Boucher; Becky (Andy) Nielsen; Amy Otte; Joshua Otte (special friend Hope Paider) and Edwin (Jenny) Knutson Jr.; nine great-grandchildren: Brianna, Mikayla, Autumn, Tristan, Kade, Kole, Katie, Lucy and Raymond; one brother and sister-in-law: William (Jo Ann) Ebben, Kaukauna; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is further survived by her late husband's sister, Lorraine Van Handel.

    Frances was preceded in death by her husband, James, a daughter, Cindy, her parents, a brother and sister-in-law: Edmund (Anna) Ebben; nephew, Ulrich Ebben; niece, Barbara Ebben; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Emma and Clarence Jansen, Margaret and Gordon Van De Hey, Ethel and Don Halbach, Edward Van Handel, Therese Otte, infant George Otte and her husband's nephews: Chuck Van Handel and Sonny Van De Hey.

    The Mass of Christian Burial for Frances will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. MARY SITE, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Family and friends will be received directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.     James C. Otte, 86, Kaukauna, passed away on Dec. 12, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Hospital with the family by his side. James was born in the Town of Kaukauna on Aug. 13, 1922, son of the late Adolph and Anna (Berghuis) Otte. He attended school in Darboy and farmed his entire life in the Kaukauna area. James met his wife Frances (daughter of John and Alegunda Ebben) at The Nitingale Ballroom in Kaukauna. They were united in marriage on August 28, 1951, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom and spent 57 wonderful years together.
    James is survived by his wife Frances and four children, Eugene and good friend Debbie Forster, Kaukauna; Mary Jane and Edwin Knutson, Reedsville; Betty and James Boucher, Black Creek; and George and Cindy Otte, Cato; seven grandchildren, Bob (Jodi) Boucher, Brenda Boucher, Becky (Andy) Nielsen, Amy Otte, Joshua Otte, Jason Otte, and Edwin Jr. (Jenny) Knutson: four great-grandchildren, Brianna, MiKayla, Autumn, and Tristan. He is further survived by three sisters, Lorraine Van Handel, Theresa Otte, and Ethel (Don) Halbach; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Cindy; sisters and brother-in-law, Emma and Clarence Jansen, Margaret and Gordon Van De Hey, and Edward Han Handel; a brother, George; and a brother-in-law Edmund Ebben.
    The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at St. Katherine Drexel Parish at St. Mary's Site, 119 West Seventh St., Kaukauna. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna (766-2099) on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. where there will be a parish prayer service held at 7:30 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in James's name.
