Biography

  • Birth: Martha Helen (Sister Janet) Ebben was born on August 20, 1918 in Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: She died on January 12, 2016, at age 97.
  • Occupation: She was a Springfield Franciscan.
  • Note: Sister Janet Ebben, O.S.F. of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 8:10 a.m. at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Illinois.

    Sister Janet, the former Martha Helen Ebben, was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, on August 20, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Mary Huven Ebben. She entered the Congregation on February 2, 1937 and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1939.

    Sister graduated in 1945 from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing. She served the community as a nurse at HSHS hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. In 1956, she joined the Sisters at Alverna Home Nursing Center in Chicago, Illinois until 1962 when she transferred to HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where she was head nurse until 1977. Sister then spent the next 14 years as a Staff Nurse caring for her Sisters in Community in Loretto Home until 1991 when she became Assistant to the Coordinator of Loretto Home attending to the resident Sisters’ personal needs. She retired from active duty in 2002 to become herself a resident in Loretto Home.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Vincent, Richard, and Henry Ebben and five sisters: Frances Deprez, Clara Raepcke, Mathilda Vanden Bosch, Margaret Heindl, and Genevieve Ebben.

    She is survived by a brother, Willard Ebben of Kaukauna, Wisconsin; a sister, Dorothy Waurunek of Luxemburg, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared her life for more than 78 years.

    Visitation: A visitation will be held at St. Francis Convent on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 6:00 p.m.

    The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent with Father John Sullivan, OFM, presiding. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

  • Burial: She was buried in Holy Cross, Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Genevieve Ebben, age 91, of Appleton, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Brewster Village. She was born on August 19, 1921, in the Town of Kaukauna, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Huven) Ebben. Genny attended St. Nicholas Catholic School in Freedom. She enjoyed reading, singing, and music.

    Gen is survived by her two sisters: Sister Janet, OSF of Springfield, Illinois and Dorothy Wavrunek of Luxemburg; two brothers: Willard Ebben of Kaukauna and Henry (Rosella) Ebben of Green Bay; sister-in-law: Mary Ebben of Kaukauna; along with many nieces and nephews and their families. She is further survived by the many friends she made while residing at Brewster Village.

    Genny was preceded in death by her four sisters: Matilda (Peter) Van Den Bosch; Clara (Walter) Roepcke; Frances (Ervin) Deprez; and Margaret (Raymond) Heindl; brother-in-law: Sylvester Wavrunek; two brothers: Richard Ebben and Vincent Ebben; and sister-in-law: Helen Ebben.

    The funeral liturgy for Genevieve will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna. Fr. Tom Pomeroy will be officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until the time of mass.     Richard H. Ebben, Former Resident, Dies in Milwaukee

    Richard H. Ebben, 57, 3553 S. 41st St. Milwaukee, formerly of Kaukauna and Green Bay, died Friday morning, March 16, 1984, at his home. He had been employed by Badger Wholesale of Green Bay for 20 years, and while living in Milwaukee prior to his death, he was employed as a night watchman. He was born April 15, 1926, in Kaukauna, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ebben. He had served as a military policeman with the US Army during World War II. Mr. Ebben was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.

    Survivors include seven sisters and five brothers in-law, Matilda and Peter VanDenBosch of Kaukauna; Frances and Ervin DePrez of Green Bay; Clara and Walter Roepcke of Hilbert; Sister M. Janet of Springfield, Illinois; Genevieve Ebben of Appleton; Margaret and Raymond Heindl of Kaukauna; and Dorothy and Sylvester Wavrunek of Luxemburg; and three brothers and sisters in-law, Vincent and Mary Ebben, and Willard and Helen Ebben, all of Kaukauna; and Henry and Rosie Ebben of Green Bay. He is furthers survived by nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews.

    Funeral service were at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter and Paul Church, Green Bay, with a cousin, the Rev. John VanDerHorst officiating. Interment was in the Allouez Cemetery. The Proko-Wall Funeral Home, Green Bay was in charge of arrangements.

  • Marriage: She and Sylvester F Wavrunek were married on November 8, 1947 in Holy Cross, Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: Dorothy Ann Ebben died on February 28, 2016, at age 88.
  • Note: Dorothy A. Wavrunek, (Mrs. Sylvester Wavrunek), 88 of Pilsen died peacefully early Sunday morning at home on February 28, 2016. She was born August 27, 1927 in Freedom to the late Henry and Mary (Huven) Ebben. On November 8, 1947 Dorothy was united in marriage with Sylvester F. Wavrunek at Holy Cross Church, Kaukauna. He preceded her in death December 29, 2001.

    Survivors include four sons and four daughters in law, Daniel (Debra) Wavrunek, Kewaunee; Deacon Robert (Christal) Wavrunek, Tisch Mills; David Wavrunek, Luxemburg; James (Josy) Wavrunek, Denmark; Jean Wavrunek, Luxemburg; three daughters and one son in law, Janet (friend Noah) Spitzer, Jackson; Mary (Tom) Swagel, Kewaunee; Catherine Wavrunek, Green Bay; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister in law, Willard Ebben, Kaukauna; Rosella Ebben, Green Bay; nieces and nephews.

    Dorothy was preceded in death by one son Joseph Wavrunek, three brothers two sisters in law, Vincent (Mary) Ebben, Richard Ebben, Henry Ebben, Helen Ebben, six sisters, Matilda (Peter) Van Den Bosch, Frances (Ervin) Deprez, Clara (Walter) Roepcke, Sister M. Janet Ebben O.S. F, Genevieve Ebben, Margaret (Raymond) Heindl; six brothers in law and six sisters in law, James (Margaret) Wavrunek, Anton (Gertrude) Wavrunek, George (Mabel) Wavrunek, Edward Sr. (Mayme) Wavrunek, Dorothy (Frank) Mleziva, Mayme (Michael) Stahl, her father in law and mother in law, Catherine and James Wavrunek.

    Friends may call 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 02, 2016 at St. Therese Parish, St. Joseph-St. John Site, Hwy 29 in Pilsen. Closing parish prayer service 7:00 pm. Wednesday, led by Dorothy's son and daughter in law, Christal and Deacon Robert Wavrunek.

    Visitation will continue on Thursday, March 03, 2016 at St. Therese Parish, St. Joseph-St. John Site between 9:30 am and 10:45 am. Funeral 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Dennis Drury officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pilsen.

  • Ordination: He was ordained in Deacon.
  • Note: Deacon Robert M. Wavrunek, 63 of Tisch Mills died peacefully Monday night, January 9, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born September 19th, 1953 in Green Bay to the late Sylvester and Dorothy (Ebben) Wavrunek. On May 24, 1975 Bob was united in marriage with Christal L. Yanda at St. Isidore the Farmer Church, Tisch Mills. Bob was ordained a Deacon on May 18th, 2013 by Bishop David Ricken at St Francis Xavier Cathedral.

    Bob had a huge heart and helped all those in need. His passion was serving the Lord as a Deacon and spending time with this family; especially his eight beautiful grandchildren. Bob's first job out of high school was at Denmark Farm Equipment, after a few years he joined the team at Camera Corner. Bob married the love of his life and best friend Christal and purchased the family farm in 1975. They milked dairy cows and raised an array of farm animals including chickens, turkeys, pigs, donkeys, goats, horses…. He enjoyed sharing his animals with Kindergarten groups from local schools for more than 25 years. Bob was a Religious Ed teacher for 15+ years and served on the Gibson Town Board. In 2007, Bob and Christal answered Gods calling to nourish one's soul vs one's body by joining the Deaconate cohort. Bob and Christal attended classes for 6 years together as they continued to farm. On July 1st 2013, Bob joined the Green Bay Diocese as Deacon and proudly served at St. Isidore the Farmer Church, Tisch Mills; at St. Joseph-St. John, Pilsen; at St. Hedwig, East Krok and at St. Lawrence, Stangelville.

    Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Christal, four children, Christopher (Jean) Wavrunek, Zander; Samuel (Scott) Wavrunek, Mishicot; Zachary (Beth) Wavrunek, Green Bay; Jessica (Thomas) Lambert, Cooperstown; six siblings, Daniel (Debra) Wavrunek, Kewaunee; David Wavrunek, Luxemburg; James (Josy) Wavrunek, Denmark; Jean Wavrunek, Luxemburg; Janet (friend Noah) Spitzer, Jackson; Mary (Tom) Swagel, Kewaunee; Catherine Wavrunek, Green Bay; one brother in law Scott Yanda, Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Seth, Aaron, Zoey, Ivy, Blake, Alexis, Remington, Gracyn.

    Bob was preceded in death by his parents Sylvester and Dorothy Wavrunek; one brother Joseph Wavrunek.

    Visitation will continue on Friday, January 13th, 2017, 9:30 to 10:45 am at St. Therese Parish, St. Joseph-St. John Site, Pilsen . Funeral 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Dennis Drury officiating, assisted by Deacon Robert Miller. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pilsen.

    In lieu of flowers a memorial fund (for pro-life) will be established in the name of Deacon Robert Wavrunek.

  • Birth: Joseph Nicholas Wavrunek was born on March 19, 1956 in Eaton, Brown Co, Wisconsin.
  • Death: He died on May 31, 2014, at age 58.
  • Note: Joseph N. Wavrunek, "Joe the Organic Man," 58, Town of Eaton, died peacefully, Saturday, May 31, 2014, at a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Joe was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. His strong faith, love for family, and love of farming kept him alive to tend to God's work here on earth until God called him home. Joe was born March 19, 1956, in Eaton, to Dorothy (Ebben) Wavrunek and the late Sylvester Wavrunek. He was a 1974 graduate of Denmark High School and began a career in farming soon after. Joe married the former Jean Cherney on December 14, 1985 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He and Jean celebrated 28 years of marriage this past December. Joe was the 4th generation family member to own and operate the family farm since its beginning in 1883. In 2006 he and Jean started the transition to become a certified organic dairy farm receiving their certification in 2008. Joe did what he loved to do, driving the tractor and working land up until Thursday. He was a proud member of the Organic Valley Co-op and was always promoting their products and the organic lifestyle. Joe was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community.

    He is survived by his wife, Jean and their four children: Amanda (fiancé, Jason Wilke), Sturgeon Bay; Kimberly (fiancé, Dustin Damrow); Adam (special friend, Lauren LeFevre); Brianna (special friend, Evan Jensen), all of Eaton; his mother, Dorothy, Eaton; seven brothers and sisters: Dan (Debbie), Kewaunee; Deacon Bob (Christal), Zanders, WI; Dave, Eaton; Jim (Josy), Denmark; Janet Spitzer (special friend, Noah Caminata), Jackson, WI; Mary (Tom) Swagel, Kewaunee and Cathy Wavrunek, Green Bay; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifford and Mary Cherney, Eaton; brothers in-law and sisters-in-law: Mark Cherney, Eaton; Kathy (Gary) Gargano, Green Bay; Gary (Gina) Cherney, Luxemburg; Tim (Jolene) Cherney, Eaton and Steve (Cindy) Cherney, West De Pere; nieces and nephews and Godchildren.
