    Age 87, died at Colony Oaks Care Center on Friday, May 10, 2002. He was born to the late John and Jane (Hooyman) Weyenberg in Freedom on October 12, 1914. Following Gene’s schooling, he helped his parents on their farm until he started farming on his own. On November 15, 1934, he married Pauline Stephani in Black Creek. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2000. They raised three children together. Gene and Polly enjoyed music, dancing and playing cards. Gene also enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and bowling; further, he enjoyed being with his family.

    Gene is survived by two sons: Bob (Florus) Weyenberg of Freedom and Gene (Donna) Weyenberg, Jr. of Moshawquit Lake, Wisconsin; one daughter, Shirley (Joe) Geurts of Freedom, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two brothers: Orville (Marge) Weyenberg and Clyde (Ardene) Weyenberg, both of Freedom; a sister, Irene Stephani of Appleton; two brothers-in-law, Leon Spletter and Bill Martzahl, both of Appleton; three sisters-in-law, Marcella Rettler, Caroline (Milo) Rettler, and Helen Murphy, all of Black Creek.

    Gene is preceded in death by his wife Polly, his parents, Polly’s parents Arnold and Mary Stephani, two brothers: Ray (Ev) Weyenberg and Mervin (Myrtle) Weyenberg; two sisters: Martha (Ted) Van Dyke and Dorothy Spettler; five brothers-in-law: Al Stephani, Leo (Ethel) (Vi) Stephani, Ray (Mary) Stephani, John Murphy and Jerome Rettler; two sisters-in-law, Isabel (Cyril) Fries and Dorothy Martzahl; and a grandson-in-law, Bruce Van Grinsven.

    The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow the liturgy at St. Nicholas Cemetery.

    The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center.

    A memorial fund in Gene’s name is being established.

    Pauline B. Weyenberg 'Polly' 5800 Pennsylvania Av., Appleton, formerly of Freedom, died on Christmas day 2000 at the age of 89. Polly was born in Iowa on March 15, 1911, daughter of the late Arnold and Maria Klapperich Stephani. On November 15, 1934, she married Eugene Weyenberg in Black Creek; he survives. The couple operated a dairy farm in Freedom for many years, and Polly will be remembered by many for always planting a large garden and her love for dancing. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom for over 60 years, and was a member of its Christian Mothers Society.

    Polly is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Joe) Geurts, Freedom; two sons, Bob (Florus) Weyenberg, Freedom; and Gene (Donna) Weyenberg Jr., Moshawquit Lake; twelve grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; four sisters, Isabel Fries, Appleton; Dorothy (Bill) Martzahl, Appleton; Marcella Rettler, Black Creek; Caroline (Milo) Rettler, Black Creek; Helen Murphy, Black Creek. Polly is further survived by Eugene's brothers and sister, Orville (Marge) Weyenberg, Freedom; Clyde (Ardene) Weyenberg, Freedom; Irene Stephani, Appleton; by Eugene's brother in-law, Leon Spletter, Appleton.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Leo Stephani and Ray Stephani; brothers in-law Cyril Fries, Jerome Rettler, and John Murphy; sisters in-law Ethel Stephani, Vi Stephani, and Mary Stephani; by Eugene brothers and sisters, Ray (Ev) Weyenberg, Mervin (Myrtle) Weyenberg, Martha (Ted) Van Dyke, and Dorothy Spletter; by Eugene's brother in-law Al Stephani; and by Eugene's parents John and Jane (Hooyman) Weyenberg.

    The funeral liturgy for Polly will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 28, 2000, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, N4088 Cty Rd E in Freedom, with Fr. Dennis M. Ryan officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the hour of service. A memorial fund has been established in Polly's name in order to benefit the Future Renovation of the Church Sanctuary. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Alterra Wynwood of Appleton for the care and concern shown to Polly and her family. We will alway remember your kindness.

    Florus was born on March 24, 1935, in Wrightstown, the daughter of George and Julia (Kerkoff) Arnoldussen, the 6th child of 6. She married Robert Weyenberg at St. Nicholas Church in Freedom on October 28, 1954. They had 6 children together. Florus worked at Zwickers and Thilmany Paper Mill before starting their family, and Anchor Foods for a short time after raising her children. She loved to travel with her husband and family, including trips to Washington DC, Yellowstone, cruises, Puerta Vallarta and many winters in Las Vegas and Florida. Rummage sales and estates sales, especially in the Dreamer, were her favorite hobbies, along with trips to the casino and cocktail hours. She was also Bob's favorite cheerleader during his numerous years of playing sports.

    Florus is survived by her husband, Robert; six children: Marilyn (Gary) Brockman, Freedom; Gary Weyenberg, Appleton; Bev (Neil) VerVoort, Town of Vandenbroek; Nancy (Mike) Heindl, Freedom; Peggy (John) Huss, Darboy; Vicki (Dan) Verhasselt, Sheboygan; her 14 grandchilren: Chad (Kim) Brockman, Bob (Lucy) Brockman, Christopher Brockman, Nicole (Paul) Keckhaver, Kyle (Katie) Weyenberg, Alicia Rieth, Brad (Nikki) VerVoort, Sara (Brad Brezinski) VerVoort, Tyler (Jamie) Heindl, Tanner (Haley) Heindl, Travis Huss, Savanna (Kullin) Hoffman, Noah Verhasselt and Danny Verhasselt; her great-grandchildren: Summer, Brielle, Logan, Carter, Caden, Corbin, John, Emmet, Benjamin & Finley; siblings: Mike and Fabian Arnoldussen, her in-laws: Shirley (Joe) Geurts, Gene (Donna) Weyenberg, Loretta Arnoldussen and Pat Grady and many nieces, nephews, friends and special neighbors (especially the Jadin Family).

    She was preceded in death by her parents Julia and George Arnoldussen; her step father, Les Newhouse; her father and mother-in-law Eugene & Polly Weyenberg; her siblings: Juline Grady, Hillary Arnoldussen, Bert Arnoldussen, her twin sister at birth, and her sisters-in-law: Iris and LaVerne Arnoldussen.

    Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 p.m., with Fr. Walter Stumpf presiding. Burial will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Cemetery. A memorial has been established to support the Saint Nicholas Building Expansion and Alzheimer's Research. Friends and family are invited to wear purple to support the disease.

    The daughters would like to thank their dad for his excellent care of their Mom. He has been the most devoted husband, friend, partner, and caretaker any wife could ever ask for. He has set the most beautiful example of what his wedding vows meant to them. We hope we can walk proudly in his footsteps.

    Bob and his family would like to thank the Affinity Hospice team, especially Tessa and PennySue, for assisting with caretaking the last several weeks of Florus' life. Florus is now with God and the angels in heaven but the angels here on earth will never be forgotten.

    Mom, you were always there for us, in good times and in bad. Whenever we called, you gave us the best advice. Even when you could no longer tell us, we always knew you loved us. You were the greatest mom, love you forever.
