    Richard M. "Dick" Van Gompel, 79, Little Chute, died at his home Friday, May 22, 2009, with his family by his side. He was born in Little Chute, on June 22, 1929, to the late Anton and Marie (Janssen) Van Gompel. Dick married Audrey Weyenberg at Holy Name Parish in Kimberly on Feb. 13, 1952. He then served for two years in the Army during the Korean War. Dick retired from Kimberly-Clark/Midtech in 1992.

    He loved to hunt, fish and golf. He avidly attended the school events of his grandchildren and cherished time spent with family and friends at the cabin. Dick and Audrey wintered for 14 years in Phoenix Ariz., where he enjoyed ushering Brewers games during spring training. Dick enjoyed working with his hands and was able to make or repair most things.

    Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Audrey; children, Dan (Sandy), Temucula, Calif.; Dave (Mary), Green Bay; Donna (Jack) Van Vreede, Little Chute; Dianne Treankler, Pulaski; Dori (Al) Springstroh, Random Lake; Darlene (Bill) Berry, Marshfield; and Denise (Brian) De Bruin, Kaukauna; grandchildren, Craig (Jamie), Brett (Alison), Derek (Hannah) and Ross Van Gompel, Dana (Brandon) Kucksdorf, Elizabeth and Danielle Gauthier, Rachel and Tricia Van Vreede, Carley (Mike) Robenhorst, Laura and Brooke Gaffney, Cory (Melissa) and Karen Springstroh, Danielle and Rebecca Vevea, Hannah (Dan) Holena, Betsy Berry, Katie and Amanda De Bruin; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Reid, Dylan, Brooklyn and Addison; sisters and brothers, Genevieve (Peter) Schmalts, Marcellus (Mary) Van Gompel and Linda (Norbert) Weyers; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Cathryn Van Gompel, Elaine (Fred) Rupple, James, Barb and Raymond Weyenberg and Ann (Roy) Nackers. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his stepmothers, Marge and Emily; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Evelyn Weyenberg; sisters and brothers, Regina, James and Henry Van Gompel, Josie (Herb) Lom and Mildred (Robert) Walker; and brothers and sisters-in-law, June Van Gompel, Rev. Don, Gerald, Judith and Kathy Weyenberg.

    Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St.) beginning at 2 p.m. until time of Mass at 5 p.m. The Rev. James Hablewitz will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow. Committal St. John Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.

  • Note: Age 90, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003 at the St. Paul Home. Marie was born in Little Chute on February 22, 1913, daughter of the late Mathias and Mary (Williamsen) Driessen. On May 17, 1947, she married Elmer Van Den Heuvel at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute; he preceded her in death on December 7, 1996. Marie worked at Bastian’s Dime Store and later as an assistant cook at the Kaukauna High School. She was an avid golfer, a gifted seamstress, and a frequent volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul and the Kaukauna Community Hospital Auxiliary. A longtime and faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church, she served on the Altar Society, volunteered as a communion distributor, and made hundreds of baptismal gowns over the years.

    Survivors include three children: Mary (Gary) Vander Loop of Kaukauna; Elaine (John) Warakomski of Midland, Michigan; and Robert (Denise) Van Den Heuvel of Plover; eight grandchildren: Todd (Linda) Vander Loop, Timm Vander Loop, Troy Vander Loop, Trisha (Tim) Smet, Michael Warakomski, David Warakomski, Sara Van Den Heuvel, and Michael Van Den Heuvel; three great-grandchildren: Kennedy Vander Loop, Logan and Autumn Smet; and a brother: Ray (Doris) Driessen of Little Chute, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, brothers George (Rose) Driessen, Henry (Theresa) Driessen, Peter (Nell) Driessen, Clarence (Marie) Driessen, John (Hattie) Driessen, Les Driessen; and a sister Nell Driessen.

    The funeral liturgy for Marie will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch, OFM Cap officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 PM on Wednesday, and again at the church on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. A parish prayer and scripture service will conclude the visiting hours at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

    Donald C. Weyenberg S.D.S. 1723 S. Bouten St., Appleton, age 51, died Monday, October 17, 1988 at the Americana Health Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 19, 1937 in Kimberly. Donald was ordained on June 19, 1965, at the Shrine of Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C. He graduated from Catholic University of American in Washington, D.C., where he received his B.A. Degree in Philosophy and a Masters in Zoology. He attended Briarcliff College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he received his Teachers Certificate, and also earned his Masters in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Wisconsin -Milwaukee. He was a teacher and counselor at Trinity Prep High School in Sioux City, Iowa. He served as a chaplain, counselor, and teacher at Boys Town, Nebraska, and the Salvatorian Providencial Residence in Milwaukee. He was a Social Worker and Counselor at Rosalie Manor Treatment Center at Brookfield, Wisconsin. He served as professional services coordinator at Outreach Services of Mesa, Arizona, and program consultant and teacher at LaCiudad del Nino-San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico.

    Suvivors include his mother, Evelyn M. Weyenberg, Kimberly; three brothers and two sisters in-law; Jack and Arlene Weyenberg, Little Chute; Gerald Weyenberg and his fiancee, Barbara, Cameron, Wisconsin; Raymond 'Rick' and Kathy Weyenberg, Kimberly; and three sisters and three brothers in-law; Elaine and Fred Ruppel, Appleton; Audrey and Richard Van Gompel, Little Chute; Ann and Roy Nackers, Appleton.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond in 1972.

    The funeral service will be at 12 noon Thursday, October 20, 1988, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Kimberly. The mass of resurrection will be concelebrated by Fr. Ron Lhotte, Fr. Barry Griffin S.D.S., and Fr. Andre Papineau S.D.S. Burial will be in the Holy Name parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Jansen-Fargo Funeral Home, 204 E. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Name Catholic Church until the time of Service. There will be a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. A memorial fund has been established for the Society of Divine Saviour.

    Janet M. Weyenberg, age 82, of Freedom, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, February 9, 2018. She was born on September 30, 1935, daughter of the late Ted and Ruth (Appleton) Meulemans. On June 2, 1955, Janet married her grade school sweetheart, Jim Weyenberg at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom. When Janet was in the fifth grade she came back to school from a sick day and found a new student, a cute boy, sitting at her desk. This was the start of a lifelong love story resulting in 59 wonderful years of marriage.

    Her life revolved around faith, family and friends. She was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings. She enjoyed her weekends up north and trips to Florida, but in the end, there was no place like home. She loved cooking, baking, canning and her flower gardens. Many enjoyed her world famous chicken noodle soup, potato salad, carrot cake, banana bread, and strawberry jam. She loved to play cards, and was a member of many different card groups. Janet worked at Kimberly Clark, Zaug’s Catering and Thrivent Financial before her retirement.

    Janet is survived by her children: Sandy (Tom) Vanden Hoogen, Connie (Tom) Reinke, Lori (Randy) Van Camp and Scott (Lori) Weyenberg; grandchildren: Stacy (Shawn) Wiedenhaupt, Travis and Tyler Carney, Tammi and Brian Reinke, Brooke Weyenberg and Myranda Lope; step grandchildren: Chad (Christine), Brett and Tamra Vanden Hoogen; great grandchildren: Ryan, Dylan, Lauren; step great grandchildren: Ella and Ally; siblings: Lois McMorrow, Barbara (Tom) Elliott, Joan Frederickson, Gary (Janice) Meulemans and Jim Meulemans; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lois (Carl) Hietpas, Dolly (Ed) Gerhartz, Roy (Katherine) Weyenberg, Mary Ann (Ken) Vander Wielen, Tom (Carol) Weyenberg, Carol (Gary) Micke, David (Jacci) Vandehey, and Mark (Pat) Vandehey; and many other family members and friends.

    Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Weyenberg in 2015; her parents, Ted and Ruth Meulemans; a granddaughter, Amanda Reinke; a sister, Karlene Janssen; father and mother-in-law, Mervin and Myrtle Weyenberg; stepfather-in-law, Don Vandehey; brothers and sisters-in-law: Fritz Frederickson, Thomas McMorrow, Kay Meulemans, Larry Diedrick, Mary Lou Vandehey and Dick Vandehey.

    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, N3972 Columbia Ave., FREEDOM, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 County Road S, Freedom, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 12:00 noon.
