    Robert H. Derks, age 80, of Kimberly, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013, a white snowy Valentine's Day morning at Parkside Care Center. He was born on October 21, 1932, in Kaukauna, the son of the late William and Frances (Van Dyke) Derks. On August 23, 1952, Bob married Marcy Sommers; they shared 57 years together until she passed on December 11, 2005. Bob began his employment as a mechanic and body man at the Chrysler Garage in Little Chute. He retired in 1977, after 25 years at Kimberly Clark. He then opened his garage as Bob's Auto Repair in Kimberly. Bob enjoyed watching westerns, working on cars, playing the guitar, and singing. He followed #14 Tony Stewart with NASCAR, and loved watching the Packer games. Bob was known at Mr. Fix It and loved being the entertainer at gatherings. He especially enjoyed playing and singing in the local taverns throughout his life.

    Bob is survived by his children: Bob (Kim) Derks, Kaukauna; Jim (fiancée Karen Blodgett) Derks, Appleton; Susan (Tom) Collins, Rapid City, South Dakota; Richard (Lynn) Derks, Appleton; Sandra (Joseph) Smith, Appleton; Sara (Lorman) Anderson, Neenah; Thomas (friend Donna) Derks, Hortonville; Vicki (Chad) Jacob, Saucier, Mississippi; and Conni (Brian) Heiting, Omro; daughter-in-law: Janice Derks, Menasha; 21 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers: Bill Derks, Combined Locks and John (Val) Derks, Spokane, Washington; sisters-in-law: Sandy Derks, Kimberly; Carol Derks, Kaukauna; Mildred Hafeman, Appleton; and Ione (Howard) Kersten, Shawano. He is further survived by his godmother, Aunt Loretta, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

    Bob was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Shirley, Shannon, and Sharon Derks; son, Jerry Derks in 1999; daughter-in-law, Kris Derks in 2002; son-in-law, Ted Imwalle; infant brothers, Ronald and Donald Derks; brothers, Dan Derks and Tom Derks; sister-in-law, Pearl (Ervin) Schydizk; brothers-in-law: Richard Sommers, Norman Sommers, Ted Sommers, and Robert Hafeman.

    The funeral service for Bob will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Jansen Fargo Funeral Home in Kimberly. Inurnment will take place at Holy Name Cemetery at a later date. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. Marcy was born in Dale on November 18, 1932, daughter of the late Richard and Elsie (Schimmelpfenning) Sommers. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1950, and as a young woman worked at both the Appleton and Kaukauna telephone companies. Marcy married Robert Derks on August 23, 1952. After the children were grown, Marcy returned to work, and was a telephone secretary at TelSec for fifteen years, and also worked as a housekeeper at Tanner School in Kaukauna. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards.

    Marcy is survived by her husband: Robert Derks of Kimberly; five daughters: Susan (Tom) Collins of Hermosa, South Dakota; Sandra (Joseph) Smith of Darboy; Sara (Lorman) Anderson of Neenah; MSG Vicki Derks of Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi; and Conni (Brian) Heiting of the town of Clayton; four sons: Richard (Lynn) Derks of Appleton; Thomas Derks of Hortonville; Robert Derks of Kaukauna; and James Derks of Appleton; a daughter-in-law: Janice Derks of Menasha; nineteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred Hafeman of Appleton and Ione (Howard) Kersten of Shawano; three brothers-in-law: Bill (Mary) Derks of Combined Locks; John (Val) Derks of England; and Tom (Sandy) Derks of Kimberly; and a sister-in-law: Carol Derks of Kaukauna. Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughters Shirley and Sharon Derks, a son Jerry Derks in 1999, a daughter-in-law Kris Derks in 2002, a sister Pearl (Ervin) Schydizk, brothers Richard Sommers, Norman Sommers, and Ted Sommers; brothers-in-law Robert Hafeman, Dan Derks, and Ronald and Donald Derks; and Robert’s parents William and Frances (Van Dyke) Derks.

    The funeral service for Marcy will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the funeral home chapel with Sr. Carol Haanen, A.N.G. officiating. Inurnment will be at Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service. A memorial fund in Marcy’s name has been established.

    Whitey Evers, 84, of Little Chute, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. He was born on May 16, 1931, son of the late John and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Hietpas) Evers. On September 17, 1960, Whitey married Peggy Van Rooy at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

    Whitey proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army. He was a longtime and very active member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258, Little Chute. He was also a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Whitey worked at the Kimberly paper mill for 43 years as a material handler. He enjoyed gardening and bowling. Many special memories were made up at the trailer on White Clay Lake. Most importantly, Whitey enjoyed his family and keeping up on his grandchildren's activities.

    Whitey is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters: Charla (Terry Ott) Derks and Karen (Sam) Ciske; grandchildren: Katie (Tom) Van Zeeland, Chris (Amanda) Derks, Bob (Jess) Derks, Shelly (Chance Bartz) Long, Andy (Will Anderson) Derks, Mitch Ciske, Josh Ciske and Emma Ciske; great grandchildren: Max, Sloane, Sutton, Kaylee, Riley, Braedy, Cory and Beau; siblings: George (Celeste) Evers, Tony (Lorayne) Evers, Katie (Raymond) Brockman and Don Evers; sisters and brothers-in-law: Ade Evers, Rosie Evers, Ronald Beattie and Bev Van Rooy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Whitey was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Ed (Vi) Evers, Ray (Del) Evers, Hank Evers, Delia (Martin) Joosten, Gordy Evers and Mary Ann Beattie; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Elvira Van Rooy; brothers and sisters-in-law: Elaine Evers, Elaine (Lester) Weyenberg and Tom Van Rooy.

    Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Fr. Ron Belitz officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Full military honors will be performed by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post #258 after the service.     Age 73, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday after a lingering illness. He was born June 12, 1891 in the Town of Vandenbroek. Mr. Evers was a member of the Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Little Chute Golden Agers, Little Chute American Legion.

    Survivors are his widow, Minnie; three daughters, Mrs. Martin [Delia] Joosten, Kimberly; Mrs. Ray [Catherine] Brockman, Menasha; Mrs. Ronald [Mary Ann] Beattle, Little Chute; eight sons, Edward and Ray, both of Freedom; Henry and Gordon of Combined Locks; George and Anthony, Appleton; Sebastian and Donald, Little Chute; two brothers, Corniel, Little Chute; Frank, Appleton; two sisters, Mrs. Peter [Mary] Van Groll and Mr. Anton [ Maggie] Vervoort, both of Little Chute; 44 grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute with interment in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home, Little Chute, after 2 p.m. Friday where the rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.

  • Note: Merson, Douglas A. ‘Stretch’ Age 42 Of Little Chute, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born May 9, 1960 in Clintonville, WI. He grew up in Shiocton but graduated from Neenah High School in 1978. In that same year he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Peterson, in the sixth fleet. He was honorably discharged in 1982 as Petty Officer 2nd Class. He worked for 16 years in Quality Control at Miller Electric.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Merson and his sister, Karla Bricco.

    He is survived by his Mother, Dixie (Glenn) Guthrie of Asheville, NC; daughters: Megan and Hayley and their mother, Cindy Merson of Little Chute; sister, Paula (Roger) Kohrt of Shiocton; brother-in-law Douglas (Kristine) Bricco of Little Chute; uncle and aunt Jerry and Ann Addie of Janesville, WI; aunt Janice Merson Fink of St. Petersburg, FL; special niece, Shanna Bricco of Oshkosh; and numerous cousins. He earned the name ‘Stretch’ due to his lanky 6’5” frame. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, and participate in his daughter’s sporting activities.

    A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Conner officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM until the time of service also Saturday. A memorial fund is being established.
