FAMILY FINDS HUNTERS DEAD IN THEIR TRAILER
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Blamed For Holiday Fatalities
CALEDONIA-Two deer hunters from Appleton were found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning Thursday in a trailer in southeastern Waupaca County by family members who became concerned when they didn't show up for Thanksgiving dinner.
Joseph C. Du Pont, 52, W2824 Oakridge Drive, and John Francek, 56, 1515 N. Badger Ave., were found by family members just after 5 PM at the hunting shack on land owned by Du Pont near E8208 rusch Rd., in the Town of Caledonia.
John Francek's son, Chris, of Green Bay, said family members tried to reach the men on a cell phone after they were late in arriving for Thanksgiving but there was no answer. 'It wasn't like them not to be home', Francek said, but we figured they had gotten a deer and were gutting it. By 4 PM, Chris Francek, Susan Du Pont and Donna Francek, the two mens wife, drove to the trailer to check on them. The men were found in the trailer's sleeping quarter's. Chris Francek tried to administer CPR to the victums but there was no response.
Francek and Du Pont had spent last weekend at the hunting shack and returned after work Monday. Family members last spoke to them between 5 and 7 PM Wednesday night. The men had been visiting the land owned by Du Pont for several years. The 70 foot, single wide trailer stands on pillers and is heated by propane. Chris Francek raced to a neighboring home to call 911 after discovering the men. Deputy Cornor Debbie Kuenzi and members of the New London Fire Deptartment were also at the scene. Blood tests confirmed that the deaths were caused by carbon monoxide, most likely from an interior propane furnace.

To know the joy of living is to know life’s worthwhile things: the satisfaction of work well done, the joy that friendship brings, courage after doubting, understanding after sorrow, learning from our yesterdays, and looking toward tomorrow. It’s counting up a lifetime not by the years we’ve spent, but by our store of memories and by our hearts’ content. –Amanda Bradley
