Wilhelmina Cornelia Joosten

F, b. May 22, 1922, d. November 20, 2011

Parents

Family: Martin E VenRooy (b. March 7, 1916, d. March 5, 1994)

Biography

  • Birth: Wilhelmina Cornelia Joosten was born on May 22, 1922 in Town of Vandenbroek, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Marriage: She and Martin E VenRooy were married on June 4, 1942 in St John Nepomucene Church, Little Chute, Wisconsin.
  • Death: Wilhelmina Cornelia Joosten died on November 20, 2011, at age 89, in Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Burial: She was buried in Holy Cross, Kaukauna, Outagamie Co, Wisconsin.
  • Note: Minnie C. Ven Rooy, 89, joined her husband in eternal life, late on Sunday, November 20, of non-smokers' lung cancer at the St. Paul Villa, Kaukauna, where she lived since August 2011. Born to John and Anna (Van Groll) Joosten on May 2, 1922, she lived on the rural homestead until 1942. On June 4, 1942, she was united in marriage to Martin E. Ven Rooy at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute and shared almost 52 years of marriage on their rural Kaukauna farm, until his passing from lung cancer on March 5, 1994.

She was a hard-working true farmer's wife, toiling hand-in-hand with her husband in the fields and twice daily milking cows. They rarely took vacations until after they retired in 1978. For 17 additional years after her husband's passing, until August of this year, she continued to maintain her rural home until her mobility became an issue. In late September, lung cancer was diagnosed.

Minnie gained many life-long friends from her involvement in Romeos & Calicos square dancing, playing cards, bowling, oil painting, traveling, and going to friends' cottages in the North country. She was a long-time member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she was active in the Christian Mothers, served as a Eucharistic Minister and visited the sick as a member of the Visiting Committee. She was a frequent Daily Mass worshipper, traveling from her farm home, even in the snowiest of conditions. She also volunteered at the 1000 Islands Environmental Center. And she loved 'her' Packers, even saying a prayer they would win each game without injuries.

In addition to her belief in and deep devotion to God, she had a genuine love and concern for others. If you helped her, she would be sure to send a thank you note--a lost art today. She loved the homestead, her outdoor plants and the garden. Riding her stationary bike was a regular routine. Winning at Rummikub was one of her desires.

One of her fun achievements was going in a hot air balloon ride at the age of 72 with her sister, Martha Vanden Boogart.

Her family was important to her. They include three children -- a daughter, Elaine Ven Rooy (Don Ristau) Appleton and Naples, FL; two sons, Merl (Sue) Ven Rooy, Winneconne, their children Ryan (Annie Zacher), Oshkosh, and Kristy (Don) DeWitt, Winneconne; and Dennis (Kathy) Ven Rooy, Greenville and their children, Dan (Jennifer Schmidt), Oshkosh and Ellen, Eureka, California; and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Martha (Martin) Vanden Boogart, Little Chute; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Richard (Beverly) Joosten, Little Chute, and Delia Joosten, Kimberly.

Survivors of her husband's family include one sister-in-law, Viola Van Rooy, DePere, and one brother-in-law, Peter Cortes, LaCanada, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Arthur (Agnes) Ebben, Henry (Mary) Gloudemans); two brothers and one sister-in-law, Martin and Joseph (Marian) Joosten; and two other siblings at a young age.

Also preceding her are her husband's family: four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Lambert (Betty Cortes) Van Roy, John (Rosalie) Van Rooy, Ed (Ann) Kieffer and William Van Rooy.

The funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH (309 Desnoyer St.) at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church.

Thanks to great neighbors, Marv and Imelda Hietpas and Dan and Doris Verboomen, as well as Minnie's younger sister, Martha, for their help and support in her later years. A great thank you to Paul and Ellen at St. Paul Hospice Services and the caring staff at St. Paul Villa for their compassion and love.

    Everyone has their time

But why did yours have to come so soon?

There are so many people in the world

So why did God have to pick you?

They say things like this make you stronger

    But how can that be?

    We feel so weak inside

It all feels like a dream

    We didn't get to see

    You passed away too soon

But we feel you watching over us

    Someday we'll see you again.

    We love you Dad,

    Trina, Chad, Shelly, and Bret
