  • Note: Marge Baer, age 87, went to her heavenly home on Monday, April 21, 2014. Throughout her life she worked in the Appleton School System, Sears, and Kurz & Root. Marge is survived by three children: Sandra (Darrel) Alix, Sharon Mee, and Thomas (Karen) Baer; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother: Gene (Connie) Steffens. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don "Bud" Baer, a son-in-law: Danny Mee, five brothers, and two sisters.

    The funeral liturgy for Marge will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 25, 2014, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street in Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, OFM Cap. officiating.     Don Baer, age 91, passed away early on Wednesday morning, April 14, 2010, at a local nursing home. Don was born in Appleton on February 5, 1919, son of the late Herbert and Sarah (Last) Baer. He attended Appleton schools, and also served his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war, he married the former Marge Steffens on January 26, 1946. The couple had enjoyed sixty-four years together. For nearly thirty years, Bud worked at Kimberly-Clark's Lakeview Plant. He also enjoyed his visits with his buddies at Grishaber's.

    Bud is survived by his loving wife: Marge Baer of Appleton; three children: Sandi (Darrell) Alix of Appleton, Sharon Mee of Newport News, Virginia, and Tom (Karen) Baer of Richfield; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother: Russell Baer of Arlington, Texas.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Danny Mee, and a sister-in-law Doris Baer.

    The funeral liturgy for Don will be held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, April 16, 2010 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street in Appleton. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 12 p.m. Noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

  • Death: He died on October 3, 2017, at age 74.
  • Note: Darrel "Butch" Alix, age 74, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Darrel was the youngest son of the late Arvid "Gene" and Irma (Hakes) Alix. On April 2, 1965, he married the love of his life, Sandra Baer, and together they raised five children. Darrel enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; playing cards and cribbage; and going to casinos.

    Darrel is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his children, Doreen Alix-Verkuilen (Larry Verkuilen), Darlene (Glen) Livermore, Dean Alix, Duane Alix (Maly Melby), Dave (Arann) Alix; six grandchildren, Casey Klepps, Kaley Klepps, Destiny Livermore, Alicia Alix, Brielle Alix, Kori Alix; and ten great-grandchildren.

    Darrel is further survived by one brother, Merle (Sally) Alix; one sister, Sue (Don) Crank; a sister-in-law, Kathy Alix; and a brother-in-law, Ray Guthman.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arvid Alix; and one sister, Yvonne Guthman.

    As Darrel wished, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1pm to 4pm at Cimarron Bar & Grill in Menasha.

    Keller, Mary Therese


    Mary Therese Keller (nee Steffens), 76, went to her Eternal Home on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Chandler, Ariz., where she resided the past several years with her daughter. Mary was born May 9, 1933, to the late Lawrence and Dora (Ebben) Steffens. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

    Mary graduated from Appleton (West) High School in 1951. She was involved with NARFE and Club 51 prior to her move to Arizona in 2005. Mary enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, bingo and spending time with her family.

    She is survived by her children, Kevin (Sally) Keller, Sun Prairie, Wis.; Catherine (Larry) Scheider, Chandler, Ariz.; and Keith (Lynn) Keller, Appleton, Wis.; one sister, Marge (Donald) Baer; brothers, Eugene (Connie) Steffens and Ken (Mary) Steffens; sisters-in-law, Betty Steffens-Engstrom, Cleo Steffens, Marian Steffens and Lynn Lodes; and brother-in-law, Ed Keller. She is further survived by loving grandchildren, Jill Keller, Andy Keller, Tim (Michelle) Scheider, Nicole (Brian) May, Michael Scheider, Don Keller, Marc Keller and Dave Flack; six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald; her son, Carl David; her brothers, Edward, Charles, Florian and Lawrence Steffens; and her sister, Cecelia.

    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Mary's name.

    Donald J. Keller, formerly of 1618 N. Hall Ave., Appleton, age 58, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday August 17, 1989. He was born January 24, 1931, in Brillion, and married Mary Steffens on November 12, 1955, in Appleton. He served with the United States Army for 20 years with tours in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was employed at the Appleton Post Office for 18 years; retiring July 1, 1987. He was an active member of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. Don was a member of the Tombstone Pickerl Snowmobile Club, and the Rolling Stone Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District. He was a member of the Harvey Pierre VFW Post # 2778, and the Disabled American Veterans.

    Survivors include; his wife, Mary T. Keller; a daughter and son in-law, Catherine and Larry Scheider, Neenah; two sons and daughters in-law; Kevin and Barb Keller, Little Chute; Keith and Lynn Keller, Appleton; three brothers and two sisters in-law; Wilford, Antigo; Edward and Mary Ann, Green Bay; Elmer and Doria, Rhinelander; three sisters and two brothers in-law; Georgianna and Edwin Petermann, Brillion; Marcela Diener, Hilbert; four grandchildren; Michael and Nicole Scheider, Jill and Andrew Keller.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; Nicolas 'Ed' and Catherine Keller; a son, Karl David Keller; three brothers; Joseph, John and Karl Keller; two brothers in-law; Eugene Schaefer and John Diener.

    The complete funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 1989 at 11 a.m. st St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church 1825 N. McDonald St., with Fr. Gerald R. Falk officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., on Friday from 4 unti 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church. A prayer and scripture service will be held at 7 :30 p.m. Friday. A memorial fund is being established.
