    Peter J. West, age 64, passed away unexpectedly at 2:30 Monday afternoon. He was born September 25, 1904 in Freedom and lived in Appleton most of his life. He was formerly employed by the Outagamie County Highway Dept. for 36 years; retiring 11 months ago. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.

    Survivors are his wife, Helen; five sons, Carl, Richard, Thomas, and Harry of Appleton; Gerald, in the armed services, Fort Hood, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Bonnie) Zapp, Appleton; Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Brouillard, Appleton; two step sons, Merril De Rosier, Milwaukee and Carl Bowen, Green Bay; 25 grandchildren; 8 brothers, Harry, William and Clarence, Milwaukee; Joseph, George and Edward, Appleton; Lawrence, Neenah and Raymond, Darboy.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Thursday morning at St. Therese Catholic Church and burial will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin Funeral Home from 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon until the time of services. Rosary will be prayed Wednesday evning at 8 o'clock at the funeral home.

    Mrs. Peter (Helen) West, 308 N. Rankin St., age 64, passed away Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. after a short illness. She was born April 3, 1910 in Cascade, Wisconsin and had lived in Appleton most of her life. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Golden Agers.

    Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Bonnie) Zapp, Mrs. Raymond (Shirley) Brouillard, both of Appleton; six sons, Carl, Richard, Thomas, Harry and Gerald West, all of Appleton and Carl Bowen, of Green Bay; a step son, Merrill DeRosier, Milwaukee; three brothers, Carl Ebelt, Appleton, Gordon and Lester Ebelt, Shawano; two sisters, Mrs. Gerald (Eunice) Moomaw, Hot Springs, Arkansas, Mrs. Milton (Doris) Krause, Appleton; 27 grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. F.M. Brandt officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.

  • Note: Carl W. West passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 24, 2014, after a short illness. He was born on November 5, 1928 in Neenah Wisconsin, son of the late Peter & Ruby West. Carl married Vera Barr on September 9, 1950. They enjoyed 57 years together and he has missed her dearly since her death on March 15, 2008.

    Carl enjoyed having Tuesday morning breakfast with his Riverside retiree group, working crossword puzzles and playing cards. His favorite pastime was sitting in the sun on the deck at the trailer in Crivitz, WI. But most important was the time with his family and friends, especially with his great-grandchildren.

    Carl will be sadly missed by his five children: Sandra Rozell-Kingsford, MI, Carla(Dennis) Vaubel, Michael West, Gary(Linda) West and Dennis (Debbie) West, all of Appleton; five grandchildren: Raymond (Tiffany) Vaubel-Appleton, Heather (Jason) Barke-Birnamwood, Antony (Brandi) West - Kaukauna, Aric (Lisa) Vaubel-Menasha, and Rebecca (Matthew) Livingstone - Luxemburg; 12 Great-Grandchildren: Megan Vaubel, Sophia West, August Barke, Sienna Vaubel, Kasadee Vaubel, Zandyr Barke, Ian West, Emilia Livingstone, Isaiah Livingstone, Alex Vaubel, Teresa and Peter Livingstone; four sister & brothers: Shirley Brouillard-Appleton, Thomas (Marion) West - Appleton, Harry (Diane) West-Shawano, and Jerald (Mary) West-Appleton; four sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Joyce West-Mountain, Ron(Carol)Barr-Appleton, Beatrice Brozovich-Iron Mountain, MI, Daniel Trembley-Appleton. He was also Uncle Carl to numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was further preceded in death by his Great Grandchild, Sarah Livingstone; sister Bonnie (West) Zapp; brother Richard West; four brothers-in-law, Raymond Brouillard, Gerald Zapp, George Brozovich, and Roger Barr; and two sisters-in-law: Patsy Trembley and Nancy Barr.

    Funeral service for Carl will be 11:00 AM on Friday March 28, 2014 at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 209 S. Allen St, Appleton with Rev. Brian Bankert officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:00 until 10:45 AM. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

    Vera Charlene Barr West passed away peacefully on March 15, 2008, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 14, 1929, in Iron Mountain, Mich., to Alexander and Dorothy Barr. Vera married Carl on Sept. 9, 1950. She loved family gatherings, baking and cooking, spending time up north in the woods of Crivitz, but most important was time with the family and friends, especially the great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services for Vera will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 S. Allen St., Appleton, Wis., with the Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m.

  • Note: Michael John West, age 65, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton with his family at his side following a courageous 9 month battle with cancer.

    Mike was born January 30, 1952 in Appleton, son of the late Carl and Vera (Barr) West. He proudly served his country from 1977-1981 in the US Air force. He always enjoyed nature by spending time at the cottage, hunting, fishing, or just sitting on the dock.

    Survivors include four siblings; Sandy Rozell; Carla (Dennis) Vaubel; Gary (Linda) West; Dennis (Deb) West. He was proud to be called Uncle Mike to numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Along with his new found family at Highland Community Apartments.

    Per Michael's wishes no service will be held.

    Mike was always willing to lend a hand, share a smile, or crack a joke. "You will be missed by all."

    Bonnie Marie (West) Zapp, age 81 passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 4, 2012 of complications from cancer.

    She was born in Hortonville on March 30, 1931, and resided in Appleton, WI. On May 29, 1953, Bonnie married Gerald (Jerry) Zapp and raised five daughters. They loved and nurtured their family and watched it grow to include five son-in-laws and eight grandchildren. After Jerry's death, Bonnie was fortunate enough to find love and happiness again with Fred Mix.

    Bonnie retired in 1995 from Fox Valley Surgical Associates after a successful career in insurance, billing and bookkeeping. Bonnie enjoyed traveling, playing golf, making ceramics and reading the opinion page. But her true passion in life was people.

    Bonnie was truly one-of-a-kind. She had one of the most generous personalities you could ever encounter, going out of her way to make everyone else feel welcome and appreciated. Bonnie made a positive impact on the lives of everyone she met. Her spirit has been freed and legacy lives on, and in a very real sense, she lives forever.

    Bonnie is survived by long-time partner Fred Mix; daughter Julie Zapp (Bruce Barnes), child Nicollet, Minneapolis, MN, daughter Mary Jo (Jeffrey) Williams, children Cate, Claire, Anna and Quinn, Minneapolis, MN, daughter Sarah (William) Sjoquist, child Adam, Minneapolis, MN, daughter Susan (James) Reinl, child Jaclyn, Appleton, WI, son-in-law John (Brenda) Krueger, Mackville, WI, sister Shirley Brouillard, brothers Carl West, Tom West, Harry West and Jerry West, and other living family and friends. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Ruby and Peter West; step-mother Helen West; husband Gerald Zapp; infant daughter Debra; daughter Janet Krueger; grandchild Jared Barnes; and brother Richard West.

    Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 PM on Monday October 8, 2012 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N McDonald St, Appleton, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday October 7, at Valley funeral home from 2:00 until 6:00 PM, with a prayer service at 5:30 PM. Visitation will continue Monday at church beginning at 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM Mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

    The complete funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday July 10, 1987 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1825 N. McDonald St., with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Whichmann Funeral Home 537 N. Superior St., from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday until the cortege leaves for the church.     West, Richard "Dick" E. Richard E. West, age 66, of Mountain passed away Friday, March 24, 2006, at Community Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls. He was born in Appleton on February 27, 1940, to Peter and Helen (Ebelt) West. Richard was married to Joyce Kieffer in Appleton on June 30, 1962. He was a lifelong resident of Appleton until they moved to Mountain in 1995 after retiring from Appleton Papers where he worked for 33 years. Richard loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed helping out the ambulance service with their cookouts. He was always willing to help out neighbors and strangers. Richard is survived by his wife Joyce; his daughter Christine (Joel) Miller, Green Bay; son: Brian West, Phoenix, AZ; five brothers: Carl (Vera) West, Appleton; Thomas (Marion) West, Appleton; Jerald (Mary) West, Appleton; Harry (Diane) West, Shawano; Carl (Joyous) Bowen, Shawano; two sisters: Bonnie Zapp, Appleton; Shirley Brouillard, Appleton; grandson: Steve Miller, Green Bay.     "Ray"

    Of Appleton, age 64, died at home on Friday, March 28, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 23, 1938 to Isadore and Isabel (Pompa) Brouillard. On February 11, 1961 he married Shirley West.

    Prior to retirement, he was the coordinator of boiler operations at Lawrence University for 25 years. Ray was a big outdoorsman who loved to go fishing and hunting with his sons. He also enjoyed spending time up north. In his spare time, he was a beekeeper and sold his honey at the farmer's market. His grandkids were all very special to him, and they will all miss him dearly.

    He is survived by his wife, Shirley three sons and a daughter, Russelle (Denise) Brouillard, Menasha and their children: Ashley and Matthew Brouillard Robert (Terri) Brouillard, Shiocton and their children: Patrick and Wesley Brouillard Thomas (Mary) Brouillard, Hortonville, and their children: Ericka Steward, Buck, Brooke and Ben Brouillard Pamela (Chip) Wilda, Hortonville and their children: Emily and Seth Wilda brother and sisters: Harry (special friend Sharon) Brouillard, Florida Rosemary Voeltz, Appleton and Marie (Jim) Filen, Appleton. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including his lifelong friend, Carl Robl.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronald, a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Delores and a brother-in-law, Wayland Voeltz.

    The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., with Father Don Zuleger officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass.

    In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund is being established.

    The family would also like to thank Mary Gruenzel of Theda Care for her wonderful care of Ray. Also, a special thank you to Father Don, a special friend who was always there for him, and the other "Father Don" Brouillard for bringing communion.



    Surely Jesus loved fishermen for He chose them for His own. To be with Him and learn from Him and someday share His home. It must have been their trust in God and patience He found rare, That keeps them very near His heart and ever in His care.
