    Age 73, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 17, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Dick was born March 1, 1926, in Combined Locks, the son of the late Harry and Mary [West] Vandenberg and has lived in Appleton most of his life. Dick was united in marriage to Frieda Skorie on May 29, 1948, sharing 51 years together. He was formerly employed by Riverside Paper Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1988. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific on LST 133. Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Riverside Paper Co. Quarter Century Club, and the Catholic War Veterans. Dick will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His best times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, and fixing things for family and friends. He was known as Mr. Fix It. A Jack of all Trades, who could fix just about anything. He loved his cottage, Polkas, sheepshead, and nature.

    Survivors include his wife, Frieda; five daughters, Anne [Willy] Luedtke of Appleton; Ellen [Jeff] Hager of Appleton; Teresa [Rod] Freimuth of Freedom; Rose [Bill] Adamietz of Kimberly; and Karen [Loren] Doxtater of Freedom; four sons, Nick [Ellen] Vandenberg of Shawano; Harlan [Tammy] Vandenberg of Menasha; Mark [Sandy] Vandenberg of Appleton; and Joe Vandenberg of Appleton; a daughter in-law, Beverly Vandenberg of Appleton; five brothers, Elmer [Agnes] Vandenberg of Appleton; Harvey [Barb] Vandenberg of Appleton; Ray [Kay] Vandenberg of Appleton; Floyd [LaVern] Vandenberg of Little Chute; and Al [Beverly] Vandenberg of Appleton; four sisters, Delores [Earl] Walker of Appleton; Lucy [Charles] Post of Stevens Point; Rita [Alan] Laux of Appleton; and Agnes [Bernard] Merline of Appleton; three sisters in-law, Sally Vandenberg of Winchester; Lucille Vandenberg of Appleton; and Florence Vandenberg of Florida; 19 grandsons and ten granddaughters.

    In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a son, Patrick, and four brothers, Ambrose, Arthur, Paul and Henry.

    The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., with Fr. Robert Karuhn officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Tretten-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and then directly at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. The parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established.

  • Note: Appleton - Frieda C. Vandenberg, age 89, of Appleton, went to be with her savior on Monday, January 29, 2018, with her loving family by her side at Brewster Village. Frieda was born on September 19, 1928 in White Lake to the late Michael and Hulda (Fank) Skorie. On May 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard J. Vandenberg. The couple enjoyed 51 years together until Richard passed away in 1999. Frieda was a homemaker that devoted her whole life to her family. She loved gardening, baking, canning, nature, fish, and birds - but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she sang in the choir, belonged to the Quilting Club, and was very devoted to attending Adoration.

    She will be dearly missed by her two sons: Harlan (Tammy) Vandenberg, Menasha and Mark (Sandy) Vandenberg, Appleton; 5 daughters: Anne (William) Luedtke, Appleton, Ellen (Jeff) Hager, Saxeville, Teresa (Rod) Freimuth, Freedom, Rose (Bill) Adamietz, Kimberly, and Karen (Loren) Doxtater, Freedom; she was blessed with 29 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Bev "Sues" Vandenberg; 3 brothers-in-law: Alvin (Bev) Vandenberg, Al Laux, and Earl Walker; 6 sister-in-laws: Bernadine Skorie, Lucille (Chuck) Post, Aggie (Bernie) Merlin, Aggie Vandenberg, LaVerne Vandenberg, and Barbara Vandenberg. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Hulda Skorie, husband Richard, 3 sons: Patrick, Nicholas, and Joseph (Linda); 2 brothers Victor and Joseph; and 3 sisters: Mary, Martha, and Elsie.

    A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 6 pm on Friday, February 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St, Appleton, with Father Jon Thorson officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Friday from 2:30 pm until 5:45 pm. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

    The family is very grateful for the entire staff of the Orchard at Brewster Village and the nurses at Affinity Hospice for the compassionate care given to Frieda.

  • Note: Nick Vandenberg, 63, of Appleton, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Saturday October 4, 2014 at his home. Nick was born on February 14, 1951 in Appleton to Richard and Frieda (Skorie) Vandenberg. He spent his youth in Appleton, and graduated from Appleton East High school.

    Nick was employed and retired from Voith Paper. He enjoyed working on motorcycles, hunting, and going to gun shows. Nick was a jack of all trades, always fixing something. Nick enjoyed cooking.

    Nick is survived by his mother Frieda Vandenberg; children Nikki (John) Weaver, and Jacob Vandenberg; granddaughter Kitana Weaver; siblings; Harlan (Tammy) Vandenberg, Anne (Willie) Luedtke, Ellen (Jeffrey) Hager, Mark (Sandy) Vandenberg, Teresa (Rod) Freimuth, Rose (Bill) Adamietz, and Karen (Loren) Doxtater; his sister-in-law Beverly Vandenberg, and former wife Ellen Vandenberg. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Nick was preceded in death by his father and two brothers Patrick and Joseph (Linda) Vandenberg.

    A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 222 E. Fremont St. Appleton, with Fr. Brian Wideman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 1:30 PM. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday October 9, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the CHURCH.

    Vandenberg, Joseph J.
    Joseph J. Vandenberg, 46, Appleton, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 23, 1962, in Appleton, son of Frieda (Skorie) Vandenberg and the late Richard Vandenberg. He married Linda Dahlke Feb. 14, 2003. He was employed by Hoffmaster. Joseph was an avid outdoor sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. He served in the 452nd Army Reserves for 12 years.

    He is survived by his wife, Linda; three stepchildren, Heather and Brad Erdmann, Appleton; Heidi and Roger Prahl, Neenah; Seth Hufslund, Stevens Point; mother, Frieda Vandenberg, Appleton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Nicholas Vandenberg, Appleton; Harlan and Tammy Vandenberg, Menasha; Mark and Sandy Vandenberg, Appleton; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and William Luedtke, Appleton; Ellen and Jeffrey Hager, Appleton; Teresa and Rodney Freimuth, Freedom; Rose and Bill Adamietz, Kimberly; Karen and Loren Doxtater, Freedom; a sister-in-law, Beverly Vandenberg, Appleton; five grandchildren, Tiffany Erdmann, Morgan Prahl, Hannah Prahl, Ethan Prahl and Grant Prahl; numerous nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick on Aug. 16, 1998.

    Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., with the Rev. Quinn Mann officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

    A memorial fund has been established.

He was a graduate of Appleton East High School. He married Beverly Heegeman October 28, 1972 in Appleton. He was employed by American National Can Company for 27 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Trout Unlimited. He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing and enjoyed painting nature scenes. He was a US Marine veteran, serving in Vietnam.

    Survivors include his wife Beverly; three son, Jason, Sam, and Justin, all at home; his parents, Richard and Frieda Vandenberg, Appleton; his mother in-law, Betty Heegeman, Appleton; four brothers and three sisters in-law, Nick and Ellen Vandenberg, Shawano; Harlin and Tammy Vandenberg, Menasha; Mark and Sandy Vandenberg, Appleton; Joe Vandenberg, Appleton; five sisters and brothers in-law, Anne and Willy Luedtke, Appleton; Ellen and Jeff Hager, Appleton; Theresa and Rog Friemuth, Freedom; Rose and Bill Adamietz, Kimberly; Karen and Loren Doxtater, Seymour; many nieces and nephews.

    Age 72, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2000, at the Appleton Medical Center. Harvey was born July 26, 1928 in Combined Locks, son of the late Harry and Mary (West) Vandenberg. On November 17, 1951 he married the former Barbara Hirosky in Appleton. She survives. Harvey was employed for 41 years by Riverside Paper Co. in Appleton and was a member of the quarter century club there. He retired in 1990. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and spending lots of time on the golf course.

    He is survived by his wife, Barbara Vandenberg of Appleton; two daughters; Brenda (Michael) Thomson of Green Bay and Pam (Randy) Voeks of Seymour; two sons; Dave Vandenberg of Appleton and Rick Vandenberg of Green Bay; five grandchildren; Joette, Shaun and A.J. Thomson, and Dakotah and Cordell Voeks; three brothers; Elmer (Agnes) Vandenberg of Appleton; Floyd (La Vern) Vandenberg of Little Chute; Alvin (Beverly) Vandenberg of Appleton; four sisters; Delores (Earl) Walker of Appleton; Lucille (Charles) Post of Stevens Point; Rita (Al) Laux of Appleton; Agnes (Bernie) Merlin of De Pere; five sisters in-law; Sally Vandenberg of Winchester, Fl.; Florence Vandenberg of Flordia; Freida, Lucy and Kay Vandenberg of Appleton.

    Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Christian Voeks and by six brothers; Arthur, Ambrose, Richard, Paul, Raymond and Henry Vandenberg.

    The funeral liturgy for Harvey will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wedesday August 16, 2000 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 600 E. Kimberly Ave, Kimberly with Fr. Dennis Bergbaken officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday after 4 p.m. and again Wednesday at the Church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Visiting hours on Tuesday will conclude with parish prayer and scripture service.

    Harvey will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfathe, brother and friend to all who knew him.
