    Henry West, 78, 1112 N. Drew St., died early this morning at his home after an illness of two days. Although he was born in Appleton January 2, 1869, he spent most of his life in the town of Kaukauna, returning to this city to live about 12 years ago. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of the St. Therese Catholic Church and the Third Order of St. Francis.
    He is survived by his wife; Wilhelmina (Ebben) West; two daughters; Mrs. Henry (Mae) Vandenberg and Miss Della West, Appleton; nine sons; Joseph, Lawrence, Peter and Raymond, Appleton; Harry, William and Clarence, Milwaukee; George, Bear Creek, and Edward, Little Chute; two brothers, Peter, Kaukauna and John, Quebec, Canada; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Ebben, Appleton; and 58 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning at the St. Therese Catholic Church, the cortege forming at the Brettschneider Funeral Home at 8:30. The Rev. M. A. Hauch will be in charge and burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock Saturday evening until time of services. The Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Saturday and Sunday evening.

    Mrs. Minnie West Dies, Leaves 109 Survivors
    Mrs. Minnie West, 79, who leaves 109 survivors and whose husbend died three years to the day before her, die at her home, 1112 N. Drew Stt, about 9:45 Tuesday evening following a short illness.
    She was born January 28, 1871, in Freedom, and lived most of her life on route 2, Appleton. She live the last 15 years in Appleton. Mrs. Wes observed her golden wedding anniversary November 10, 1941.
    She was a member of St Therese Catholic Church, the Christian Mother's Society and the Third Order of St. Francis.
    Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mae) Vandenberg and Miss Delia West, Appleton; nine sons, Joseph, Lawrence, Peter, George, Raymond and Edward, Appleton; and Harry , William and Clarence, Milwaukee; 63 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
    Friends may call at the Brittschneider Funeral Home from 7 o'clock Thursday evening until the time of services. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 Thursday night and at the same hour Friday night. The cortebe is to form at 9:30 Saturday morning and the service will be at 9 o'clock at St. Therese Church. The funeral will be in St. Therese Church. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Freedom.

    Herman Ebben was born in Beugen, The Netherlands, November 1, 1834 to Arnoldus and Johanna (Ermers) Ebben. Herman came to America with his parents and five siblings: Peter, William, Hendrina, Johannes, and Hendricus in 1848. He owned land on County J and S in the towns of Freedom and Kaukauna. He married Anna VanderLinden of Little Chute in 1855. she was born in Holland October 8, 1836 to John and Mary (VanDerAcker) Van Der Linden, who also emigrated from the Netherlands and lived in Freedom. Herman and Anna Ebben lived on the west side of County J, near County S, in the Town of Freedom and owned farmland there and across the road in the Town of Kaukauna. He owned a total of 170 acres of land. The 1889 Plat Book lists Herman Ebben, “Linwood Stock Farmn, Breeder of Clyde Horses, Grade Jersey Cattle, Leicestershire Sheep, and Poland China Hogs in Sagole, Sec. 13.” When the retired, Herman and Anna lived in the village of Freedom on the north side of County S, across from St. Nicholas Cemetery 9now the northeast corner of S and Coffey St.) Later Dr. Melchoir, a dentist lived in this home and also had his dental practice there.

    Age 75, passed away at 5 p.m. Sunday after a lengthy illness. HHe was born in Hollandtown Aptil 16, 1892 and was a coutodian of St. Francis Church at Hollandtown for over 33 years when he retired and moved to live with his daughter and son in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hennes, September 1, 1964. Mr. Tennessen was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Francis Church, Hollandtown.

    Survivors include his wife, Clara; one daughter; Mrs. Leo [Gertrude] Hennes, Kaukauna; two sons, LeRoy and Emil, both of Appleton; one brother, Louis, Kaukauna; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church, Kaukauna, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter Salm oifficiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Hollandtown, with Fr. Edward Kilsdonk officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the Greenwood Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday.

    Survivors include his daughter, Mary Blodgett, Appleton; his sister, Gertrude Hennes, Kaukauna; his sister-in-law, Gladys Tennessen, Arizona; his grandchildren, Suzanne (Richard) Lauerman, Appleton; Laurie Blodgett, Appleton; Jean (Jeff) Rusch, Appleton; Sandra (Todd) Stohl, Kimberly; and Robert (Rebecca) Blodgett, Pickett; his great grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, Luke, Mike, Casey and Christina. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Keough, his brother LeRoy Tennessen and his great grandson, Larry Lauerman .

    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2003, at ST. FRANCIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 433 County CE, Hollandtown, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial has been established in his name.

    Hennes, Gertrude R. "Gert" Gertrude R. Hennes "Gert," Kaukauna, age 89, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, after a brief illness. Gert was born September 19, 1916, to the late Frank and Dora (West) Tennessen in Brillion, WI. She married the love of her life, Leo Hennes, on August 3, 1937, at St. Mary Catholic Church. In 1987 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 1993. Gert enjoyed teaching at Holy Name, Holy Cross, St. Mary and St. Nicholas. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing on Halsey Lake with friends, family and especially her grandchildren, reading, playing her organ, card games on Tuesday at Van Abels, tending to her flower garden, traveling with her husband Leo to Hawaii, Mexico and other states.

    She is survived two daughters, Alicia and Carl Van Dyn Hoven and Angela and Jack Vander Loop; two sons, Jerome and Sharon Hennes and Paul and Carol Hennes; a sister-in-law, Gladys Tennessen, 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great- great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo, her son, Robert, her sister, Josephine Keough and two brothers, Elmer and Leroy Tennessen.

    Gert's Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2006, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack T. Mullarkey officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at Church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.     Leo A. Hennes, 231 W. 12th St., Kaukauna, age 85, died Tuesday, August 31, 1993 at Kaukauna Community Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born September 7, 1907 in Kaukauna the son of the late Joseph and Mary [Schomisch] Hennes Sr. Leo was a graduate of Kaukauna High School Class of 1927. He completed a business course at Bowlby's Business College in September of 1928. He had been employed by the City of Kaukauna Water and Electric Dept. for 41 years, retiring in 1969. He spent many enjoyable years at their cottage on Halsey Lake, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed darts, card playing and F&M Prime Time Club activities. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1033, Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, and the AARP.

    He is survived by his wife of 56 years Gertrude R. Tennessen Hennes; two sons and daughters in-law; Jerome G. and Sharon Hennes, Paul L. and Carol Hennes, all of Kaukauna; two daughters and sons in-law; Alicia and Carl Van Dyn Hoven, Combined Locks; Angela and Jack Vander Loop, Kaukauna; 15 grandchildren; Christine [Pat] Nienhaus, Scott [Jean] Van Dyn Hoven, Staff Sgt. Patrick Van Dyn Hoven, Bill Vander Loop, David [Jane] Vander Loop, Carol [Dale] Hoopingarner, Connie [Bill] Bartelt, Timothy, Scott, Airmen 1st Class Michael and Christopher Hennes, Tanya, Randy, Ryan and Sarah Hennes; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude E.     He is further survived by his wife's two brothers, Lee [Gladys] Tennessen, Peoria, Arizonia; Elmer Tennessen, Appleton.

    He was preceded in death by a son, Robert in 1941, six brothers; John, Raymond, Joseph, Edward, Peter and Norbert Hennes; three sisters; Margaret, Sr. Julitta, and Mary Hennes.
    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Marys Catholic Church, Kaukauna with Fr. Ron Lhotte officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Kaukaua. Friends may call at St. Mary Chuch from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of services. A memorial fund has been established for St. Marys Church Renovation. There will be no visitation at Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., Kaukauna.

    Survivors include her husband, Charles; her mother, Mrs. Josephine Tennessen, Kaukauna; a daughter, Mrs. Mark [Mary Jo] Ehle, Altoona; a son, Irving, Waukesha; a brother, Elmer Tennessen, Seymour; a half brother, Le Roy Tennessen, Phoenix, Arizonia; a sister, Mrs. Leo [Gertrude] Hennes, Kaukauna; and three granddaughters.

Fran was born on March 9, 1917, in Kimberly, to the late John H. and Ann (West) Vandenberg. She married Walter A. Joosten at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton, on May 24, 1941; he preceded her in death on November 28, 1966. On June 30, 1969, she married Harvey B. Behnke; he preceded her in death on December 18, 1993. Fran was employed at Lawrence University. She enjoyed giving to others through her church work. Fran was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Ladies Aid and a Gold Star Mother. Survivors include her granddaughter, Kelly Ann Burke; her grandson, Robert K. Burke; her great grandsons, Jackson and Liam Burke; her brothers, David (Carol) Vandenberg and Al (Kathy) Vandenberg; and her sister, Rose Mary (Clyde) Zielke. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Joosten; her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Jim Burke; her sisters Grace and Dorothy; and her brothers Herb and Jack. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name to benefit the American Cancer Society.
