    On September 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Regina Van Boxtel. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2015.

    Lawrence was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Navarino. He loved farming, building machinery, building toys, and being outdoors. He loved his Allis Chambers tractors. But most of all was time spent with his family and close friends, playing cards for pennies and just being together.

    He is survived by his children: Dave (Linda) Zuleger, Townsend; Jerry (Jayne) Zuleger, Seymour; Don (Debbie) Zuleger, Black Creek; Bruce (Barb) Zuleger, Little Chute; Mark (Amanda) Zuleger, Bonduel; Barb (Tim) Smith, Pulaski; Brenda (Keith) Vosters, Freedom; Keith Zuleger (friend, Cindy) Pulaski; grandchildren: Chad (friend Jennifer) Jason (Michelle), Brian, Lorri (Jake), Tony (Emily), Kelly (Matt), Nathan (Abby), Justin (Jocelyn), Eric (Malynda), Melissa (Brett), Jessica (Dominic), Donnie (Savannah), Ashley, Robbie (friend, Courtney), Aspen, Sammy, Dalilah, Calliope, Brandon, Faith, Katelyn, Ryan, Kayla, Dalton and Chloe; great-grandchildren: Addison, Deacon, Adia, Amara, Ruby, Edelweiss, Oliver, Remington, Zach, Bryli, Myles, Camden, Nolan, Harper, Presley, Jadelynn, and Braxton; brothers, Earl Zuleger, Black Creek and Gordon Zuleger, Little Chute.

    On September 30, 1950 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Zuleger.

    Regina was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Navarino. She enjoyed gardening, clipping coupons and going to rummage sales, working hard on the farm, loved time spent outdoors and grocery shopping. But most of all was time spent with her family and close friends, playing cards for pennies and just being together.

    Funeral services for Antone P. VanBoxtel, formerly of 1212 Hoover Street, Little Chute, were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute, with the Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

    Mrs. VanBoxtel, 78, died unexpectedly at 12:20 p.m. Sunday, New Year's Day.

    He was born May 30, 1889 in Little Chute, and had been a farmer and a carpenter prior to his retirement. He had been a member of the Romen's Square Dance Club and the Wolf River Square Dance Club.

    Survivors include his wife, Nettie; three daughters, Mrs. Al (Margaret) Sachs and Mrs. Clarence (Agnes) Hinkens, both of Little Chute, and Mrs. Larry (Regina) Zuleger of Route 1, Black Creek; three sons, Raymond and Sylvester both of Route 1, Seymour, and Elmer of Downey, Calif.; four brothers, Jacob, Norbert, and Peter, all of Little Chute, and John of Kaukauna; three half-brothers, Cornelius of Kimberly, Joseph of Neenah, and Richard of Kaukauna; four sisters, Mrs. Ann Williamsen of Little Chute, Mrs. Laura Springer, and Mrs. Sally O'Connor, both of Appleton, and Mrs. Mary Yakaubiek of Morton Grove, Illinois; two half-sisters, Mrs. Chet (Bernie) Kriplean of Pompano, Florida, and Mrs. Gary (Florence) Lee of Neenah; 39 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ervin.

    Vanden Berg, John P.


    John P. Vanden Berg of Freedom, age 83, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2009. He was born on August 2, 1926, to the late Martin and Magdalene Vanden Berg. He was united in marriage to Elaine Huss on September 7, 1949. They were able to celebrate 60 years of marriage with family at the King Veterans Home. John was a "Jack of all trades." He worked for many years at Geenen's General Store, first as a handyman, eventually as a plumber and electrician. He then founded Vanden Berg Well Drilling. Family and friends benefited from his many talents and willingness to help others.

    Jack was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Freedom V.F.W., receiving its Good Citizenship Award in 1978. His greatest volunteer satisfaction was with the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department, serving as its chief from 1965-1981. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines from 1944-46.

    John is survived by his wife, Elaine; sons: Terry (Diane) and Michael (Barbie) Vanden Berg; and daughters: Diane (Jerry) DeBruin, Linda (Dave) Zuleger, Barb (Bruce) Zuleger, and Sue (Dave) Hietpas. He was proud of his grandchildren: Peggy (Todd) Brokl, Jill (Luke) Markus, Chad (Krista), Jason (Michelle) and Brian Zuleger, Troy, Jana, Laura, Ted, Ellen, and Hannah Vanden Berg, Eric (Malynda), Melissa, and Jessica Zuleger, Nicole, Michael, Stephanie, and Elizabeth Hietpas; great-grandchildren: Paige, Emily, Addison, Adia, and Deacon. He is further survived by brothers: Marvin Vanden Berg, Jack (Marilyn) and Jerry (Sharon) Jahnke; brother-in-law, Russell (Beata) Huss; and sister-in-law, Darlene Newhouse.

    John was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Albert and Cecelia Huss; a granddaughter, Amy DeBruin; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Huss and Shirley Vanden Berg; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Rosie Huss; brother-in-law, Robert Newhouse; and a beloved uncle, Vince Vanden Berg.

    The funeral service for Jack will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom, with visitation at 10: a.m. until the time of mass at 12 noon, celebrated by his wife's cousin, Father Willard Vande Loo, concelebrated by Father David Hoffman. In lieu of flowers, memorial will be directed to King Veterans Home, Caregiver Burnout Prevention Program and the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department.   • Note: Grandpa John Peter Vanden Berg was born August 2, 1926 and was in the war from December 22, 1944 until December 6, 1946. He married Elaine Huss on September 6, 1949. He they were first married, grandpa drove a milk truck. He worked for a Geenen's Hardware store in Freedom. He later bought out a well drilling business and drilled wells until his retirement.

    When he was working for the hardware store he was doing some plumbing in a ditch on the farm when a lady came out of an old farm house on fire so my grandpa jumped out of the hole and rolled her around in the grass she wasn't injured but grandpa hurt his back and later needed surgery which later in life caused arthritis. The ladies clothes got caught on fire while she was cooking. Back then women cooked on gas stoves with open flames.

    My grandpa Vanden Berg later passed away of kidney failure and advanced dimencia on December 31, 2009.

    Martin Vandenberg Dies At 77; Rites Held On Saturday

    Funeral services for Martin W. Vandenberg, 77, former member of the Oneida School Board, were at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, with the Rev. Leander F. Nickel officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

    Mr. Vandenberg of 7229 Country Trunk S, Kaukauna (Freedom) died on Wednesday, November 7, 1984. He was born December 23, 1906, in the Town of Freedom, and was married to the former Magdalene (Lene) Geurts in May, 1925. They had lived and farmed in the Town of Oneida until his retirement in 1971, at which time they moved to the Village of Freedom. Mr. Vandenberg had served on the School Board at Oneida, and was a member of the Freedom Golden Agers.

    Survivors, besides his wife, are two sons, Jack and Marvin, both of Freedom, three foster sons, Jack Jahnke of Oneida, Jerome Jahnke of Greenville, and Ted Stogbauer of Neenah; two brothers, William of Neenah, and Vincent of Freedom; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Geurts of Freedom; and 18 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

    Pallbearers were Dan, William, Dave, Terry and Mike Vandenberg, and Greg, Jeff and Mike Jahnke. The Greenwood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Martin W. Vanden Berg Lene Geurts W1993 Cty Tk S Kaukauna

    Age 92, died Wednesday evening, October 14, 1998 at Appleton Medical Center following a short illness. She was born March 17, 1906 to the late John and Catherine [Van Handel] Geurts in Freedom and had been an area resident all of her life. Lene married Martin W. Vanden Berg on May 5, 1925 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She and her husband farmed in the Town of Oneida retiring in 1971. Lena was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Christians Mothers, Golden Agers of Freedom and was an avid card player.

    Survivors include two sons and daugters in-law, john and Elaine Vanden Berg, Townsend; Marvin and Shirley Vanden Berg, Pound; two fosters sons and their wives, Jack and Marilyn Jahnke, Oneida; Jerry and Sharon Jahnke, Greenville; 13 grandchildren, Terry, Mike, Dan, Bill and Dave Vanden Berg; Diand DeBruin, Linda and Barb Zuleger, Sue Hietpas, Greg, Jeff, and Mike Jahnke; Lory Kozak; 28 great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin W. Vanden Berg on November 7, 1984, a great granddaughter, Amy DeBruin; a foster son, Ted Stoegbauer; six brothers, Arnold, Henry, Bill, Bert, Joe and Jake Geurts; two sisters, Dene Jager and Mary Vanden Berg and two brothers in-law, Bill and Vince Vanden Berg.

    The funeral liturgy for Lene will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 1998 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom with Father Dennis Ryan and Deacon Don Newhouse officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the mass.     Peter Vandenberg Rt. 2, W. De Pere

    Age 81, oassed away after a long illness at 10 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son, Martin, where he lived for the past eight years. He was born in Freedom February 27, 1884 and lived in this area all of his life. He operated a taveren in Freedom and Oneida until he retired in 1950. Mr. Vandenberg was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Nicholas Church, Freedom.

    Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Geurts, Freedom; three sons, Martin and Vincent, Rt. 2, W. De Pere; and William, Neenah; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Newhouse, Kimberly; and Mrs. Mary Huss, Freedom; nine grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Church with burial in the parish cemetery. Father Gilsdorf will officiate. Friends may call at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Kaukauna after 2 p.m. thursday where the rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.
